  1. Hi Girls, Wow, I can't believe that we will be leaving in just a few days. I am wrapping up some projects that I didn't get to work on while I was sick. Have a few last minute things still left to buy, hope to get that done tomorrow. FI had all of our rings cleaned today, and sadly a few hours ago I found that a small stone was missing from my engagement ring. Luckily it is deep on the side so it isn't visible, but the ring was custom made and the stone is a Fuchsia pink sapphire so it is going to be a pain in the ass to replace. FI is upset about it, but I promised him that I would have it replaced once we get back, I refuse to worry about it now. I am feeling better, but I have a lingering cough, nothing that the DR heat and sunshine won't clear up, lol. Today I had the worst root canal EVER, but I do feel much better, so I am thankful. FI has been very helpful the last few days and I have been getting many excited phone calls and texts, so I am very excited that our time is almost here. I have been taking photos of all my projects the last few months as I have been working, hopefully I will have time to post a planning thread before we leave. I will let you girls know where it is if I do.
  2. Congrats Rikki! You looked so beautiful and happy. You were in my thoughts all last Friday, I was so worried for your travel plans, but you made it and you look like you had a wonderful time. I can't wait to read your review, and am looking forward to meeting Nancy next week too, we leave in less than a week. I hear that Yanna is working off her tush, in the last email she wrote, she apologized and said that she had so many wedding to attend to. Hope she worked hard for you too. Congrats to the new Mr. & Mrs!
  3. Hi Girls, What a crappy few days. Got a major virus, doctors put me on antibiotics for 5 days. Also had some major tooth pain, and had to have an emergency root canal today:(. Wasn't at work for 2 days, didn't get any wedding stuff done at all this week. We leave to DLR in 11 days and at this point I have just thrown my hands up, whatever doesn't get done just won't get done. Girls don't forget to take care of your selves, take vitamins and get lots of sleep, especially as it is getting closer to your time to go. I had been taking my vitamins and preventatives for a month, but got busy and let my routine laps, immediately came up sick. Don't do this to yourselves! I am literally on the couch trying to break a fever, and loosing my mind:( I hope everyone had a better week than me. Please send good vibes my way, I really need it for these last few days. Hope you all have a lovely weekend. Alla
  4. Hi Taylorbabe, Thanks for the info, I will check it out today.
  5. Hermosahoops Was supposed to be flying to DLR on Friday, I hope her and her gusts made it ok, she was in my thoughts that entire day. What a crazy storm so late in the year. Hope everyones planning is going well this week, we are pulling together some last details this week, feeling ok with out progress. Going in for some dental work at the end of the week, think I need a root canal, tooth has been bothering me for a few days now. This was the last thing that I needed just a few weeks before leaving, but at least it didn't start while I was away:( If anyone is working on music play lists, I need some help. Need a few good slow songs from the 60's or 70's, something older people would know and dance to.
  6. MissTaken- I just saw your post about the ceremony being a symbolic ceremony etc. Tiara or Yanna did ask me to bring our marriage certificate with us to DLR. I'm not quite sure why since it shouldn't matter if you are just having a symbolic ceremony. I like you should double check this with the WC.
  7. Hi 3degrees, As someone who is going in a few weeks, I can tell you this much about flowers; I got a questionaire last week in preporation for our arrival, it sais clearly on that form that only 4 types of flowers come standard for the price that is given on the extras sheet (or included in your wedding package) roses, callas lilies, lilies, anthurium and Bird of Paradise, if you want anything else it says clearly to tell them what and they will give you a new price quote. Be very careful, and very clear as to what you want. I agree with Danna, in the early stages of planning you are better off asking simple questions that can be answered with a yes or no, try to itemize them and put them into 1 e-mail. If you are the type of person who sends random e-mails whenever something pops in your head than this process is going to kill you. You have to pack as much as you can into each e-mail and make sure that you are not long winded with your questions, short and sweet. Hope this helps.
  8. Nancy and Rikki all the best wishes to both of you as your time draws closer to leaving. I hope your travel days are easy and that your wedding days are beautiful and stress free.
  9. Hermosahoops- sending you positive thoughts from here. Hopefully by Friday it will weaken to a tropical storm and just come up the East coast line. Take it from someone who used to live in Florida, it's almost the end off hurricane season, most likely it will just weaken to a tropical storm before it makes land fall. Don't worry too much about the weather, you will have a spectacular time no matter what!
  10. Hi All, Hi girls,Happy Hump Day! So something totally unrelated I am going to start finishing out my DIY's in the next few weeks. Does anyone know where I should be posting a planning thread? Or would it just be more helpful to all of you if I posted it here. I feel like I know all of you and feel like I should be sharing all of this info with you directly. Someone let me know what to do. Thank You!
  11. Hi Nancy, We should be arriving at the resort on November 22nd at around 3-4pm, we land at 1:30, and have the long bus ride, so I'm assuming around 3:00pm. Would really like to get together that evening for a drink so you can fill us in on how your wedding was and what we should expect. So exciting, I can't believe that it's our turn next. Before you go we should choose a spot where we can meet in the evening. Makeup- Couldn't get too a MAC this week and really needed mascara, so I bought Mabelline Falsies mascara at my local drugstore, just needed something to hold me over. I already have long lashes, but this made them crazy long, like I was wearing fake eyelashes. What I really like about it is that it doesn't dry fast so you had the opportunity to put a few coats on without rushing, big plus. I might try to do a combo, Mabelline to lengthen, than the MAC to thicken, will see if it works:) We are getting marrried on Saturday the 27th. It is so nice of you to offer to leave me your decorations, but our colors are totally different, ours are Turquoise and Purple:( If you were really just planning on trashing everything maybe when we meet up you can show me what you have left and I can see if I can use anything. I might be able to use a few Fuchsia things for an extra pop of color. This week I really can't believe that it is so close now. FI and I really need to buckle down and start getting ourselves organized. I hate to admit, but I haven't taken my dress to the seamstress yet, well I did a few months back, but I was hoping to gain some weight so I didn't leave it to get done (yes I said gain, you will see when we meet I am insanely petite). But yes, it will all get done, even if I have to corral every last person I know and bribe them to help, lol. Happy planning Nancy, I really do look forward to meeting you and your soon to be hubby!
  12. Hi NancM & Bee, I am in the same boat with the makeup situation. Though I have already payed for makeup application (part of our wedding package) I will be passing on that appointment to my mom. My mom thinks I'm crazy not to have my makeup done by someone, but I have been using makeup since I was 15 and I know I can pull it off. I'm planning on going to Macy's department store in the next few weeks and buying eyeshadow from MAC, I think that they have the most saturated colors when it comes to eyeshadow. I have been using their concealer and mascara for a few years now and really love it. The only thing that I am unsure of is foundation, I have had so many different recommendations for foundation, some people swear by Bobbi Brown, my mom just bought Armani foundation she says is amazing, I don't know. I guess I'll just walk the counters and see what feels best on my skin. Bee- What foundation did you use? You look absolutely flawless in your pictures, so perfect. NanC- what dates will you be at DLR? We are flying in on November 22, will you still be there?
  13. Hi Dressa, Welcome to the forum. To answer the question that you posted about just serving hors devours, I have to agree with your parents, sorry. People always expect to be served a meal when they go to a wedding, sit down, buffet, or any other way. To us the point of a wedding meant for everyone to be together, during the trip, and on the wedding day. If you are having your ceremony, than sending your guests off on their own to eat dinner, than asking them back just to have really and watch you cut the cake, well it's not really a wedding anymore. Who's to say that your guests even come back after they have dinner on their own. Will you be upset if some people don't come back after they go to dinner? Will it bother you to hear that your guests are disappointed with how you chose to do things? Don't forget that you will be seeing your guests the following day, and if they are disappointed, maybe you won't hear it, but you will see it in their faces. These are my thoughts, I hope they help you make the right decision. Your wedding is ultimately about you and your FI, but you can't forget about the people who are traveling to spend this wonderful time with you.
  14. oh wow, your vases where large. I need to find out what the rules are on Jetblue for such a thing, need to get the TA on it. Thanks for that tip Bee. Maybe I will try this weekend to wrap up the vases and see how well they might lay in the suitcase. One more worry added to the list
  15. Bee- thanks so much for answering all of the questions. I didn't see the pictures of the exact vases you were bringing but I think I have an idea. My vases are just plain cylinders about 9 inches tall. There are a lot of people traveling with us so I figure someone will have an empty arm to grab an extra carry on bag. Wow I can't believe that we are only about 7 weeks away. Now that my shower and bachlorette parties are done, I need to sit down this weekend and create a plan of attack for the remaining things that I need to work on, yippy.
  16. Bee- Thanks so much for the review. I have been looking forward to hearing good things. With only 7.5 weeks till my wedding you have put me at ease. I have been working with Yana for awhile and am very happy to hear that you had such a good experience with her. Only 1 question for you; Were your vases in your checked suite case or did you carry on? I am bringing vases with us to use for table numbers, but that is my only fragile item, so I plan on making sure that I carry them on. Just wondering what you did with yours as it is way too late in the game to ship them down there.
  17. Hey Girls, Hope everyones planning is going well. Just wanted to stop in and share. My bridal shower and bachloret party are this weekend. On the same day actualy, it's a little nuts, but everyone was going to be in town for the shower,, so we decided to do a twofer. I will post some pics next week, hopefully the weather gets nice as it's been rainy in NY for the last 2 days.
  18. Oh my god, your dress is so beautiful! It's just so dreamy, can't wait to see pics of you wearing it.
  19. Bee, you looked absolutely stunning! Your photos are so beautiful, what a great memory. It was great that you posted while you were there to let us know that you were having a wonderful time... Can't wait to hear your review. Congrats newlywed!
  20. Hermosahoops, Found something similar in a recent OOT bag post, check out the link. In the second picture you can see the is a plastic bag filled with goodies. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/46940/oot-bags-done-i-think
  21. Hermosahoops, Check out the other forums, there is a thread somewhere for OOT bags. I saw one girl made an emergency kit just using clear plastic cillo bags, you can get those super cheap at the gifts-us website I gave you. She than made custom header cards for the tops, filled the bags, top with the headers and stapled them together. They looked very cute. I'll see if I can find the post and will come back to give you the link.
  22. Hermosahoops, I got 4"x2" metal boxes with lids from papermart.com, they were about $17 for 24 pieces. I've seen girls use a lot of different containers for their emergency kits, but I liked the idea of having a cute box that could be reused again so I went with metal. They are sturdy, but not heavy at all, so that is good. I bought labels at Staples and printed them today, super easy. Papermart has lots of great stuff that might come in handy to you, prices are good too, and they had tons of boxes to choose from, sure you'll find something on that site. Also, my aunt was looking for tulle fabric for my bridal shower and she found a website that has the craziest prices that I have seen yet. www.gifts-us.com. She ordered satin ribbon for me, 1/4" ribbon 100 yards for $2.00. They also have bags and wedding favors, suggest everyone check them out, most competitive prices I have seen yet.
  23. I'm doing OOT bags but we only have 19 rooms, I'm making just 1 per room since we mostly have families and couples. I bought these really colorful gift bags at Michaels, were a total steal at around $7 for 12. I'm going to be putting the following things in mine. Envirosax nylon shopper bag, found them at half price at Target. Wedding Emergency Kit- bought little metal boxes which I plan on putting some meds, bandaids and such in, making a custom label in the next few days for the box. Puzzle books, and maybe playing cards. USB flash drives- FI came up with this idea. Really wanted to give our guest 1 item that they would keep using even after the vaca. We found a website where they custom engrave them, I think they are about $4 a piece. Not cheap but to us worth the splurge. Plus we are both kind of tech nerds, so it is a gift that refers back to us. We're planning on preloading each one with some pics and a few songs, so that when pple put them into their comps for the first time they get a surprise. I might also throw some candy in there, but I will have to see when the time draws closer. I will try to post a planning thread at some point since I am finally starting to get things put together now. Thank god I had the mind to empty out a closet a few months back because now I have a place to store everything.
  24. Our guys have no idea how much we think about the wedding day, it just hurts their brains. Aside from the things that I absolutely have to run by him, I really don't tell him much. What's the point, he'll just zone out when I start running through all the things that I'm doing, and all the things that need to get done. This may sound totally crazy but I've turned the planning into a game for myself; I just make things and do things and if he doesn't ask me what I'm doing, I feel like it's yet another "surprise" that he doesn't know about, and that's fine by me. He has seen some of the things that I have been working on, but he has no idea how it will all come together. So I feel like the day of the wedding will be one big surprise for him, and that's going to make me feel good. I'd much rather play this game with myself than get angry with him when he zones out on me, much better for the relationship this way, lol. What I have been doing is when I need him for something, I tell him how long it's going to take, than I tell him a time I'd like to do it. I also keep it to a maximum of two things. I have found that this works great, he knows how much time he is dedicating so he doesn't suddenly feel cornered. Saturday he sat down with me, we chose the menu, and finished our vows, than he went back to playing video games which was fine by me because he helped me finish the 2 things I really needed him for that day. Hermosahoops, don't get stressed out with your FI, just remember that he with never be as nuts about the wedding as you are, so just involve him when you absolutely need him, it will be better for both of you that way.
  25. I think I remember when I was looking through GEM's wedding pics, there seemed to be some tall lights set up on the beach. The resort offers tikki torches but an an extra cost. You should as the WC about this. Check GEM's wedding pictures too, just to be sure, I think you can see the lights in a few of her pictures.
