  1. Wow, $3000?!?! That's insane! I've seen other Canadian brides talk about this same topic though.. Some have said that the place to get a new ID didn't require the translated version, whereas other brides have said they did have it translated, but it was no where near that expensive! Their posts said somewhere in the $30-60 range depending on where you go. Sorry, I'm not from Canada, so take this for what it's worth!! Just thought I'd pass along what I had seen others discuss. Good luck!

  2. I'm still kind of considering the DR, and it seemed that November to early December is a good time to go. The prices were still very affordable (seemed to start going up around Christmas and stayed up through April or May), but the chances of rain are a LOT lower since it is a little removed from the official hurricane season. I don't have the website with me since it's on my work computer, but you can do a search and find the average rainfall for each month. September and October were still pretty high, but it dropped off in November.

However, my sister lived there for about a year and a half, and she said even if it did rain, it would be a short 5-10 minute rain/downpour and that would be it for the day.

As for which resorts are the most affordable, I think it all depends on what 'affordable' means to you and what you're looking for. Like Aumiller said, I would suggest just doing a search on Orbitz or something and then seeing what comes up!

Agreed, it's a tough decision and all the info can be soooo overwhelming!!!! Good luck!

  3. Not a former bride so I don't have any advice, but I will say that when I read what the legal wedding script had to be, it definitely convinced me to do a symbolic ceremony! That way I can tailor the sayings/readings and sand or stone blessings to how I always envisioned my day going.. Something to consider at least!

I have heard other brides who did the legal wedding, and also recited their own vows as well. Surely they will allow you to at least do that at some point in the ceremony. Good luck!

  4. I was wondering if someone could do me a huge favor... I emailed the hotel from the website, but not sure if it was a general email address or actually went to the weddings area. Could someone send me the wedding coordinator's email address, please? Or better yet -- send me the wedding package and extra services pricing & details?? I've been waiting for weeks to hear back, which makes me think I got the wrong area.. I need to make my resort decision soon, and really liked this one from what I've read of it. PM me and I'll send you my email address.

Oh, and anyone know if the tent is just an option? I'm not a big fan of how it looks compared to the image I've had in mind all this time.. Thanks so much!!

  5. Hi Amie,

I'm not an expert by any means, but I don't think you would want to have a white gold ring by a platinum ring... As another option, you might want to see about getting a palladium ring. It's in the same family of metals as platinum, so it should have a lot of the same shine, look, and characteristics. It's also a true white metal, whereas white gold is a mix which will give it a yellowish tint, which may contrast being right next to your platinum e-ring. Another option would be to get a stone other than a diamond if that doesn't matter too much to you. There are white sapphires or of course cubic zirconia, either of which would look good I think..

You might try going into a store and putting your ring up against other types of metals (14k/18k white gold, etc) to see if you notice a difference and decide if it would bother you if there was one. Whatever you go with, I'm sure it'll be beautiful! Good luck!

Is anyone doing a rehearsal dinner??  which restaurant is it at??

Finally i dont know if this has been asked anywhere on here before but I feel like I know you ladies and wanted to ask you what you thought........My e ring has a thick platinum band and we have started to look at wedding bands (i want a thin band with a few dimonds on it) and I really dont want to spend more then like $500 on my band, but obv cant get a platinum band with a few dimonds on it for $500.........so here is my question.....Is it cheesy to get a white gold band to go with my platinum e ring? will it look different color, less shiney?  And if not is there a big difference beteween 14k and 18k gold? Thanks girls!!
