  1. That DJ pricing is soo good! Another resort I'm considering is $1000 for 4 hours, or $350 per hour sad.gif

Thanks for posting the private reception dinner prices, baezas. Those aren't too bad, considering it says it includes service and tax. Does anyone have the 2011 pricing for the actual wedding packages? Would you mind sharing those with me? And extra services, flower prices, etc. Whatever you have would be great! I would like to make my resort decision soon and get a date booked, but haven't heard back from the hotel yet with info. email is [email protected] Thanks!

  2. That's a really tough question to answer.. I would say it all depends on a lot of different factors! Location, reception, catering, entertainment, guest count, etc, etc, etc.

Maybe you should put together a rough estimate of what a wedding at home would be based on where you live (since that varies so much across the country), and then do the same for a wedding in Mexico.

I had initially thought that a Mexico wedding would be SUPER cheap, almost free! And then I started doing research.. you *can* probably keep it pretty reasonable, but you can definitely spend a lot of money. It all depends on what you would want out of a wedding and what's important to you. For example, live music during the ceremony, private reception, beach dinner, cocktail hour, DJ, lights, lounge chair area, fireworks, fire dancers, flowers, centerpieces, number of guests over the included amount in their packages (extra $ per person), the list goes on and on, and the total goes up and up!  You can make it as extravagant as you want, and they are more than willing to cater to your desires down there.

Where I live (midwest), it's pretty easy to do an affordable wedding at home compared to some brides' budgets that I've seen for New York or California. However, I decided long ago that doesn't really fit me, and all I've really ever wanted was to be somewhere beachy and warm! So even though the total cost will be more for me to do it abroad, I've come to terms with that and am happy with the decision of a destination wedding. :)

Southern Cali may be pretty pricey for a wedding at home, so it's possible that there could be some cost savings. Good luck!

  3. I wouldn't bother with all the details for the AHR on the invite unless they were all nailed down at this point. I think it would be fine to maybe just say that you'll be hosting a reception back home, with details to come. If you have a month or specific date set, or even just the town name, that would be helpful -- kind of like a STD for the AHR on the invite.

I don't know if I would wait until after you get married to send the actual AHR invite -- a month and a half is a little on the short side. Maybe a few weeks before you leave you can send those out? That would give you time after you get back to count RSVP's, set numbers with vendors if needed, and follow up with people who didn't reply. Just a thought!

  4. Congrats!

You didn't mention where you were thinking..Mexico for sure or are other islands being considered? Definitely want Los Cabos or different Mexican cities okay? There are lots of places on the hotel zone right in Cancun that are super close to the shopping and nightlife you wanted. I'm surprised on the negative feedback from The Royal. I have a co-worker who is getting married there next April. Would you mind PM'ing me the feedback? Perhaps it's something I could share with her to help her trip go better.

Word of warning though -- with a special date such as that, I would try to decide and book the wedding asap. I'm planning on a wedding that same weekend (don't really care about the date), and all the places that have gotten back to me with actual availability are booked for that day, and have been for quite some time.

    Good luck!!

  5. I've found a couple sites that seem to have really good prices:

http://www.tableclothsfactory.com/default.asp (most seem to be around $0.69 or so)

http://www.weddinglinensdirect.com/ (have 10 packs on sale for $5.90)

Does anyone know if the resort has any colour sashes for the chairs other than white? I am wanting some sort of teal blue, but I think they only have white. Anyone know where the best place to buy that sort of thing (cheaply) would be? I think I'll need between 50-60 ish. I was thinking ebay? I have not started looking yet though...

  6. I was in Cozumel last December for a quick stop while on a cruise. It was beautiful, but as for having a destination wedding there, I would agree that Playa del Carmen would maybe be a better option as far as having things to do outside of diving and just laying around on a beach. It seemed that most of the cooler excursions meant taking the ferry across to PDC anyway.

At the same time, I agree with Sara above -- it's your wedding and your day so you can choose the location! Good luck picking!

  7. Question -- how far in advance do you usually set the RSVP deadline for a destination wedding?? I haven't booked a date yet, so it's not too pressing of an issue, but looking at November 2011.  Any help on this? I'm assuming STDs will go as soon as we get the date set, and then follow up with actual invite with details on resort, activities, TA booking info, etc. When should I send those out and when should I ask for the reply? Thanks!
