  1. Thank you SO much! That link has been super helpful, although INSANELY long! We're officially BOOKED!
  2. Yes! Very helpful! I agree with what you said about the prints. Some lessons I learned from my sisters wedding "photographer phiasco": 1.) Get an album made! She still has a box full of proofs sitting in her closet. The photographer was so expensive she had no $$$ left over for one of their albums! (either that, or they didn't make them, I forgot) 2.) Ask for a few formal portraits with the bridal party and family. Some photographers are all about "capturing the moment" and their "photojournalist style" that they can't be bothered to do a few portraits. My sister is STILL hearing from my mom about that (remember, our parents are from a different generation, there were no "photojournalist" weddings, or TTD sessions...) You WILL want a few portraits! 3.) Be bold and have the conversation about what the photographer will wear to your day. One of her photographers was in a mini skirt and flashed everyone at the wedding while perched on the alter taking pictures! Suffice it to say, I'm trying to be picky, but reasonable. It's helpful to know what you want included in the price. Hope this was helpful...
  3. Ooooohhhh! What a great idea! You mean I can search for ANOTHER dress? How fun! Now I'm thinking about searching EBAY or Craigslist for a cheap dress. Is that cheating? It does seem VERY wasteful to trash something that cost tons of money...
  4. Sphering?!?! Never heard of it! Definitely a unique engagement! Congrats!
  5. Wow! He is GREAT! I loved all his pics online. How has he been to work with so far? Do you mind telling me some cost comparison research you did?
  6. Hello Royal Ladies!!! It's been a while since I posted anything, but that was when I was "unofficial." We put our deposit down today and I am getting married at the Royal on Saturday, April 2nd!!! I am SO excited!!! My only hope, dream and prayer is that the Capilla Nuestra Senora is free for us to have the ceremony there. It is the cutest chapel near the resort and I can just picture it all in my head. I want a mariachi band to lead us from the ceremony to the reception. Then a beach celebration it is!!! Now I'm researching photographers. Man, are they expensive or what?!?! I'm looking into Sasha Gluck or Cecilia Dumas. They are in the mid-range. If I can figure out a way to win the lottery then I might have DelSol do our wedding. I'm trying to find someone who will do a combination of photojournalism and portraits, as well as include some other things like prints, online prints you can order yourself, albums, a TTD session...not sure. Anyone else have their photographer booked and some convincing rationale as to why (besides the fact that its either Elizabeth Medina or DelSol, who we know now are both amazing)?
  7. Hello Spring Break Brides! I'm an Assistant Principal at a middle school in San Francisco, and we're planning a wedding in Playa Del Carmen to coincide with my spring break. So glad to be in solidarity with all the school folks out there! We have a site visit to The Royal scheduled for Labor Day Weekend. Now I need to get in shape over the next six weeks so we can maybe take engagement pics while we're there. Believe it or not, the only thing I have accomplished is buying my dress. Its the Casablanca 1932, got it at a little bridal boutique going out of business. I LOVE it! The material is silky taffeta and just flows and shimmers and fluffs all around, perfect for sparkling off the beach water! I'm thinking about finding some amazing hot pink shoes My colors will be turquoise and hot pink. I'm starting to look at photographers. Anyone have any idea the average range is for photography plus albums etc? It's looking to be quite PRICEY!!! The funny thing is, we chose a DW so that we could minimize the planning involved (honestly, when you work in public schools, who has the time or energy?) But now it seems like I'm sucked in with all these decisions and options...my head is spinning. Anyone else feel this way?
  8. Hello! I have been taking cooking classes and decided to throw my first 5-course dinner party. I was SO bummed when everyone started canceling at the last minute on me! Ryan said, "Well, since everyone canceled, why don't we get that photo of the two of us in front of the Golden Gate bridge for Adam and Laura's wedding slide show?" (his brother was getting married later that month and requested this particular photo). When we got there, we wandered around looking for his brother who was supposedly already there waiting for us with the camera. Suddenly, he got down on one knee and said, "I have a confession to make. Adam never asked for this photo. I love you, I want to spend the rest of my life with you." He held out the most gorgeous ring and I got down on the sand with him and we hugged, kissed and laughed. He then ran back to the car and brought out a basket of champagne, cheese and crackers. We had some random folks on the beach take photos. Then we rushed back to our place to change for dinner reservations at Fleur de Lis! He apparently had these reservations for months, so when I scheduled a dinner party, it was one more obstacle in his way! I love that it was a random Wednesday night, and the location was perfect for us! He said he chose it so we can go back each year on our anniversary and it will never change and always be available.
  9. Booked my site visit, uploaded my siggy AND created a ticker all in one day. PLEASE tell me I got this all done on my first try!!!
  10. Hello! I have been slowly making my way through this insanely long (but helpful!) thread and thought I'd finally try posting. My fiance are leaning heavily towards a wedding at The Royal in Playa Del Carmen in April 2011. I am SO excited about a destination wedding, getting our two families together for a few days and of course...the light up dance floor! Anyone out there doing a Catholic ceremony or know of resources/links to figuring out all things Catholic-related for PDC ceremonies?
