  1. Hi ladies

i haven't been on for a while becasue we've had more bad news this week...on Monday morning my cousin's 4 week old baby was rushed to hospital becasue she stopped breathing, went limp and turned blue, my cousin managed to resuscitate her but over the next couple of days it happened 3 more times...she is still in hospital and is now out of intensive care, it hasn't happened for a few days now but they are keeping her in for another week just incase.  All the tests are coming back 'normal' and the only explanation the doctors can give is that when baby's have heartburn it can be so intense and painful that they loose consciousness...the only problem is that she wasn't in pain she was in her mums arms and just went limp and stopped breathing so we are not buying that...I suppose the positive is that it hasn't happened again since Wednesday but my cousin is so scared to bring her home incase it happens when she is in her moses basket.

Also on Monday Wayne's grandad died, it has been one big rollercoaster of emotions and i'm trying to stay strong for Wayne but I was really close to his grandad and i just want to cry all the time but don't want to burden Wayne with my emotions...he seems so normal about it all but everybody keeps telling me that people deal with death in different ways.  We've got the 9 night (a caribbean tradition of celebrating the life of the person on the 9th night that they died) on Wednesday and then the funeral the week after...loads of family are starting to come over from America and 2 coach loads are coming down from Birmingham expecting about 200-250 people at the funeral so i've been busy helping with the preparations.

On a positive note my dad came out of hospital yesterday, he is still week but on the mend now so that is one thing of my mind.  With everything that has gone on over the last month or so i just feel so numb now i'm so tired and just want to cry all of the time.  Hopefully things will calm down soon and I can start to feel a bit normal again.

herbie....I really hope that your dad gets better soon hun, thinking of you and your family xxx

Sallee....welcome to the forum, Costa Rica sounds lovely!

Vicki...fantastic news about the job x

Jo...i would get the dress adjusted and see how it looks then, and if you still really don't like it choose another one (quickly), I know that your mum brought it but i'm sure she'll understand it is your wedding day after all and you don't want to feel uncomfortable on your special day.

Nicy...the jewellery is lovely and only $10 to ship thats excellent.

  2. sorry to get everybody concerned about the blood tests.  i was thinking about it logically and although they say they test for herpes they can't possibly not allow you to get married if you test positive, 99% of the population must of had a coldsore at some point in their life....but why do they test for it then??  I would hate to get all the way to mexico and they tell me I can't get married...i've contacted the Mexican Consulate for clarification on what the blood tests are, i'll let you know when/if i hear back from them.

Jo...i love reading your posts you make me laugh so much...but seriously what a bitch, how dare she ask you to change your wedding date and then proceed to take over the night out...bloody cheek of it!!

Kerrie26....welcome.gifto the forum and congratulations on your wedding!!

herbie76... congratulations on getting your wedding pack throughthewave.gif

  3. Thanks for all the info on the blood tests ladies, i got myself into such a panic over it yesterday...but again it is so confusing the RIU website says they test for HIV, Syphilis, Herpes, Gonorrea and all STD's but then Jo said she spoke to the WC at RIU and they said they only test for HIV and Syphilis...like you said Jo the coldsore virus is a form of herpes, at times i suffer from coldsores so the virus is in my blood so are they really saying i wouldn't be able to get marrried in Mexico over a coldsore....aaarrrggghhh i just wish they'd be clearer.

I thought that everybody had to get apostilled/translation....now i'm even more confused sad.gif

  4. I just wondered if anybody else is concerned about these blood tests...

I am getting mixed messages on what they test for exactly, I originally thought they tested for HIV and Syphilis and if either of you tested positive you can't get married legally.  Now I am hearing that they test for ALL STD's and if either of you have anything wrong you can't get married legally....this seems a bit extreme to me as people can have things like Chlamydia or Ghonnerea (sorry to get all icky on you) and never know because they don't have any symptoms or signs and then get to Mexico and be told they can't get married...I understand the HIV and Syphilis thing but don't understand the all STD thing.  I mean how is it affecting them if you do have a 'curable' STD.

The obvious thing is to get checked out here before hand, which i'll do for peace of mind, but i've also heard of horror stories where they've got the results wrong...i.e.couples have got tested in Mexico and the results have come back as positive so they haven't been allowed to get married and then when they've got back to England to be tested the results have been wrong.

Can anybody clarify for me exactly what they do test for and is it from a reliable source because different hotel websites say different things and i'm confused.com....i don't want to get to Mexico and find out we can't get married (not that i think there is anything wrong with either of us) it is just another thing to stress about though!!!

  5. Hi Ladies

thanks for all the advice on rechoosing a hotel.  Me and FI sat down over the weekend and we have shortlisted to Dreams and Riu Palace Las Americas, just going to go through the wedding locations and choose the best one for us.

Vicki....I love the poem but unfortunately I am not poetic at all so can't help you with this one!

Herbie...your daughter is too cute, bless her she looks like she is loving wearing her dress.

Michelle....good luck with slimming world x

  6. Hi Ladies

I too am a 2012 bride, getting married in July, i started another thread called UK brides Nicy put a link to it in one of the posts above, it is a great thread with loads of UK brides on there but it is nice to have one dedicated to 2012 UK brides...sometimes it feels as though my wedding day will never come so it will be good to chat with others that are having to wait so long to.

The main TA's have told me that the prices for May 2012 onwards won't come out until April 2011 so we can't really book anything until then.

Up until a few weeks ago I did have my hotel all sorted, we were going to 'The Gran Caribe Real', which is a great 4 star family hotel and is very reasonably priced (cheaper than the Riu Cancun), it is ranked 19 on trip advisor, it was top of my list and they have beautiful ceremony locations...the reason i'm having second thoughts is because after months and months of researching and reading reviews everyday there seems to be a trend of it attracting alot of American, Canadian college kids during the months of April - September due to its location and cheaper price.  Normally this wouldn't be a problem but they come in their hundreds, which again would be fine if it was a larger hotel with large grounds, but it only has one 'adults' pool, which gets occupied all day by the entertainment staff and college kids. if I was going to party i'd definitley chose this hotel but for my wedding i'm now thinking twice.

I have looked at the Riu Cancun but was a little concerned about some of the reviews that said the sun gets blocked by about 1pm because the building is so tall...i'm now considering the Riu Palace Las America's or Dreams, but I cannot find any information on the ceremony locations at the RPLA and for some reason I can't access the Dreams website to find any info about that, so i'm kind of stuck....at the moment i feel like i'm back to square one as I don't even have a chosen hotel sad.gif i suppose the only plus side is that i have time on my side until we can book.

Anyway glad that there are other UK 2012 brides out there for support over the next 2 years.

    x

  7. I'm having a bit of a dilema...the last month or so i've been swaying from the hotel that we have chosen 'The Gran Caribe Real'.  Although I liked the hotel i think i was thinking more of what would suit the majority of people and not of what we really wanted.  Basically the reason we chose this hotel is because it seemed a great family hotel and we have a fair few kids that are expected to come and it is reasonably priced, so people should be able to afford it.

The problem is that i'm finding out that because of the price and location of this hotel it attracts loads of 'college kids' from America, Canada and Mexico every year around the time we're getting married and whilst normally it wouldn't bother me i just don't want a bunch of loud teenagers running around the hotel during my wedding week and this is what is putting me off of this hotel.

There are also other things like it doesn't seem to cater for older people with regards to day/evening entertainment and we have nans, mums & dads coming.  They also only have 1 adults pool which is in constant use by the entertainment staff playing games like tequila volleyball so not very good for people that prefer to relax by the pool to the beach.  If it was only me and FI and we were having a 'party holiday' this would be a good hotel but not for my wedding.  I do love the wedding venues that they have but i am seriously being put off of the hotel the more i find out about it.

It is our wedding we are only going to do it once and I don't want to settle, which i have been doing because i've been thinking about what everybody else can afford and what they might want.  It has caused a few arguments between me and Wayne because he says we should go where we want and everybody else will have to like it or not come it's there choice....and i know he's right, but i just have this thing in me about having to please other people...but now i'm thinking about us.

O.K so this is what 'we' want...It has to be in Cancun because Wayne has his heart set on going there, obviously we want somewhere fun and lively but also with a bit of 'class' (not overrun with 'college kids'), a variety of restaurants, nice rooms & grounds, at least 2 pools, caters for kids (most hotels have kids club) but more importantly caters for the adults too.

I suppose we're lucky because we have time on our side as we can't book until May 2011, but there are so many hotels and i'm finding it impossible to choose.

We've looked over hotels again and we have a couple that we like Dreams (Kerry i know you've booked there) and Riu Palace Las Americas

What hotels did you ladies choose and why?

  8. Hi ladies, my goodness i feel like i've been away forever...quick update on family, dad is on the mend he came off the machines yesterday so that is a relief and well grandad is the same but at least he is comfortable and not in any pain.

my last post was 9 pages ago so there was loads to catch up on so sorry if i'm repeating stuff people have already said.

herbie...thanks for the reminder about the VAT increase, i haven't made any purchases yet as my wedding day feels like it's never going to come but at least i have an excuse now to start buying things, even if it is just the little odds and sods.

Congratulations on the wedding date confirmation thewave.gif  and on ordering your rings and free necklaces.

Josie...I love the invites, you girls are so creative i'm rubbish at things like that, i think i'd better get practicing.

Nicy...I agree with the other girls about ordering your dress ASAP, the last thing you want is for there to be some sort of delay.

Roo....welcome home, you look so beautiful in your pictures, I can't wait to read your review....Congratulations Mrs!

Jo...your boy is so cute, he is going to break some hearts when he is older.  i think that you should stick with the beige suit he looks beautiful in it.

Aaaaah it's good to be back x

  9. Hi Ladies

I was just wondering if you could give me some information on the ceremony locations at the RPLA.  Obviously I know that there is the beach but is there a gazebo?  From the pictures on the website and reading peoples reviews it looks as though there is only a tiny little 'gazebo' right by the pool side.  Surely this can't be the only gazebo as it looks as though you couldn't have any more than 5 people around it.

We don't want to have our ceremony on the beach and would prefer a gazebo so if anybody has any details on other locations please let me know.

    Thanks

    Charmaine

  11. Hi Ladies what with everything that is going on with dad and grandad i've been away for a while, just to update you dad is getting stronger and should hopefully be off the machines soon to see if he can breath on his own but grandad is deteriorating and only has weeks now, but at least he is comfortable now and now in pain.

Loads for me to catch up on:

Josie i really love the bare foot sandals, what website did you see them on.  Excellent news about the wedding date confirmation, now the real planning can start x

Herbie The BM dresses are lovely, I really love the way it sweeps over the bust and nips in at the waist and the colour is beautiful.  Regarding the TA they are taking the piss how dare they be so rude to you, this is your wedding day not just some holiday you have every right to ask as many questions and call as much as you want...i would definitley complain.

Michelle lol the dreams have started, my recurring dream is that Wayne misses the flight and is chasing the plane down the runway x

Vicki i am so glad that everything is coming together for you, the website looks fantastic and they have such good reviews, the wedding will be wonderful x

Roo Mrs Newnham, the wedding sounds wonderful can't wait to read your review and see pictures xx

General i am a little concerned about this no US dollars thing...i haven't booked my wedding yet and can't until next year April...do you think it will affect the cost of my wedding..I don't know anything about the exchange rate of pesos??

  12. Hi Ladies, thank you for all your kind words and hugs, my dad is recovering and is getting stronger by the day x

Vicki - my fellow Gran Caribe Real bride, I'm going to miss being able to compare notes on the hotel with you but I agree with the others there is no need to leave us you are still a destination bride and i would love to hear all about your plans, Cyprus looks absolutely beautiful xx

herbie - Wow what a bargain, I have a few wedding fayres coming up in my area and i am on the look out for some bargains to, post pix as soon as. x

  13. Hi girls...well the third lot of bad news happened...yesterday at about 11.30am my cousin calls me at work to tell me that the family have been trying to contact me on my mobile (which was in my bag, usually it's on my desk), basically my dad has been rushed into hospital and is having emergency surgery nobody knows what is wrong as the hospital aren't giving out any information.  My dad never gets ill he hasn't been to the doctors in about 15 years.  Needless to say I rushed down to the hospital in tears, long story short thankfully he is going to recover but it will be slow but I am just hoping that is the end of my bad luck now, i've had my 3...on a plus side my cousin had a beautiful baby girl today cheesy.gif

  14. Have any of you ladies used Caribbean Warehouse to book your holidays/weddings with and do they come up any cheaper than the normal TA (Firstchoice, Thomas Cook, Thomsons etc)?

I just contacted them to see when July 2012 prices would be out and the lady I spoke to was so helpful and didn't make me feel like I was wasting her time by calling and asking questions so early, unlike First Choice, they were so rude when I called them up and basically told me that I'm wasting their time and to call back to ask all these questions when the prices come out and I can actually book...anyway have been considering booking through Caribbean Warehouse but just wanted to know if they worked out any cheaper than the rest.

  15. Mel your wedding path looks great, i've already started working on ours and i don't get married until July 2012 lol.

ROO!!!  My favourite stepmum on the forum!  Can't believe I missed saying good bye and good luck!  I'm sure you will read this on your return anyway.  Your planning threads are fab darls and I cant wait to see your report!  We will all be thinking of you on the 3rd!

Hey - I have been in contact with Carribean Warehouse recently and I have to say - they have been awesome so far.  They are taking over all the contact with the hotel and arranging all the flights for our guest - UK and NZ which is amazing!  We sent our STD's on Friday so it has been exciting to hear who has received them so far and whether they think they will be coming or not.  I cant wait now but not really sure what my next job is to do!

Started on my 30 day Paleo challenge today and am off to do spin class tonight.  Im dreading it as I have been avoiding the gym and my Personal Trainer for a bout a month.  It's gonna kill!  But I cant wait to see what a difference it makes to my weight and my health in general.  Will let yas all now how I get on - it seems you guys are doing GREAT in your weight loss!

  16. Hi ladies

I have had the worst bank holiday weekend ever...on Friday I get a phone call at work from FI to tell me that his grandad has been diagnosed with stomach cancer and only has a few weeks to live (if he gets to 2  months we're lucky), so we were told to get down the hospital and start saying our goodbyes.  Needless to say FI is in bits, I am also very close to his grandad more so than my own so it has affected me pretty badly.

On Sunday we get another phone call from St Lucia saying that FI's aunt has just been killed in an accident...half of the family have just flown over to England as we have a family wedding this weekend so they literally had to turn around and try and get a flight back to St Lucia...I'm just wondering what the third thing is going to be!!!

  17. Sorry I missed you Roo, but good luck have a fantastic time and can't wait to read your review when you get back.  Big kisses and hugs.
