  1. Congraulations Jennifer!! After many destination changes, we are also getting married in Antigua in May 2011!! We are still in the stages of choosing a hotel, but to be honest, with views and a beach like that, I am not too fussed where I put my head down to sleep! :-) I am really looking forward to the planning process and getting something booked. Maybe we might be of help to each other during the next few months! Enjoy! K x
  2. Hi, We are wanting to get married in the Caribbean and started with a beautiful hotel in Mexico but they didn't offer single person supplements, looked at a few others, but eventually decided against Mexico and opted for the beautiful Dom Rep. We were trying to decide against The Magestic Colonial or the Grand Palladium Palace but when I rang the Weddings department of our Travel Agent, were advised of the high translation and authorisation fees. This came to over £1000!! Has everyone had to pay this? Then we were advised that Beach Weddings were not available from our Agent due to the wind!! Why offer a Beach Wedding that is not on the beach?! We are looking at getting married in May 2011, fingers crossed at sunset. Can anyone comment on the wind/weather at this time of year?! I am just wondering whether it is a major issue that we need to consider. We have about 40 people coming with us, some children, some single occupancies and this hotel ticks all of the boxes! I am getting to the point where this is no longer fun and just a chore!!! If anyone can offer advise, that would be perfect. Thank you in advance. K x
  3. Hi Everyone, I just wanted to say thank you so much for all of the ideas. I like the idea of sourcing locally (means I haven't got to lug everyone's gifts from the UK and gives back to the community). I am going to put information together with our invitations about the area and any excursions that are available so our guests know how much extra they need to save in order to do any of them!? We haven't decided on a hotel etc yet as we are not getting married until next year, but I am starting to put all of the ideas together so we can get a final cost. The Welcome Bag is a great idea, I love the sunscreen and aloe idea and the sunglasses are great. You can guarantee that someone will forget them!! Thank you again ladies, all of these ideas are amazing. Kim
  4. Thanks everyone! I can see this site is going to be extremely friendly and fun! Kx
  5. Hi, My name is Kim. My fiance proposed whilst we were on holiday in Egypt last year, he is extremely romantic and it was all just perfect!! We are not church people or people with a massive budget and decided that a wedding abroad would be perfect for us. We are looking at either Cuba or Dom Rep for our wedding but haven't made a definite decision yet. We are looking at getting married in May 2011. I have been looking at some of the posts about the Playa Pesquero hotel in Cuba, this hotel looks amazing to me and with 40+ guests, I'm hoping it will be big enough to accomodate everyone so they can spend as much or as little time with us. We haven't made many decisions yet about anything as apparently it will all fall into place once I have decided upon my dress. After trying over 125 dresses on, I think we are down to the final 2 dresses, then the details will all start falling into place! We do however have a photographer, luckily we have an extremely talented photographer fresh from Uni with lots of new and traditional ideas in the family-to-be, so this was a no brainer. His website is: Wedding Photography - Smith and Davies (I hope I am allowed to do that?!) Anyway, I look forward to chatting to you all over the coming months and thank you for all your help and advise in advance. Kind Regards Kim
