  1. So I'm pasting a part of the Additional Services from the 2010-2011 Wedding Package info Ariadna sent me back in March of last year below. I don't know why they would charge a per person fee for the rehearsal dinner unless you have the entire restaurant reserved for your rehearsal dinner! It is so irritating to have to pay for dinner when everyone is already paying for it in the cost of thier trip!!! My fiance refuses to pay $35pp for the rehearsal dinner, we might as well just go to a restaurant in a large group and have them seat us together instead! All these extra charges are adding up!! And it has me wondering if it will be too complicated to try and have dinner on other nights in larger groups at the resort... Obviously not the entire group, but if we tried to have dinner with even 6 or 8 people! Dinner Set menu (guest stay in the hotel) $0 50.00 USD per person Set menu (guest in other hotel) $0 100.00 USD per person Rehearsal $ 80.00 USD Rehearsal Dinner (bridal party) $ 85.00 USD
  2. How is the rehearsal dinner now $37pp? In the wedding packing information I have it says $85 for the rehearsal dinner, which I assumed was just dinner reservations at the restaurant of our choice for the wedding party and parents. Is this not the case anymore? I didn't expect a provate room or anything for our dinner, just a table reserved for ~16 ppl
  3. According to Ariadna, the reception tables are round and seat 10 people. I think there is a separate smaller table for the bride and the groom.
  4. So my wedding date at the VIM is May 14, 2011! I just read about the changes to the resort, FI will be very upset to hear the beer coolers are gone - we were there in Feb this year and that was one of his favorite things about the resort LOL. Â Has anyone tried to negotiate group rates directly with the hotel, or are you dealing with Travel Agents?
  5. My previous post I was trying to respond to love88... lol I'm new and haven't quite figured out how to quote someone in my reply yet. BTW - I'm Sarah and a 2011 bride! We're looking at a couple places in the Riviera Maya for (hopefully) May 14th 2011. I'm actually headed to mexico in 2 weeks to check out my top 2 picks: Valentin Imperial Maya and Dreams Riviera Cancun. SO I can definitely provide some good feedback on these two resorts as of Feb 6th! The big question on my mind lately is when to buy a dress? What are all you 2011 brides thinking of looking/buying? Or have you already? Short or long? I want to go with a beach ceremony, so I'm thining something tea-length... But I don't know if I should order something online or try to find short dresses at local shops? Any advice, or am I thinking about the dress way too early? I'm so sick of resort research, I've moved on to the next thing
  6. Was dreams punta cana previously sunscape? I think I remember reading something that they remodeled to be a dreams resort. If so, I was there before it was dreams on vaca in March 2007. It was a gorgeous resort. I did see a wedding party taking photos when I was there and it was absolutely beautiful. Beach was great, quality of food, service and rooms (we just stayed in the basic room, I think all have balconies or terraces) was top notch. For anyone traveling to the DR, I would reccomend booking some type of organized shuttle transportation in advance instead of getting a taxi at the airport. It's a long ride through some not so great areas. Especially with the recent eathquakes in haiti, you don't want to take any chances. Also, I would strongly reccomend any guests to not rent a car to drive to the resort. Advice from my coworker before I went there - her brother's wife is from the DR. I can give you more details if you want. Not trying to scare you, just an important piece of info to keep in mind since you and your guests will be travelling there.
  7. Another 2011 bride here! We're planning for mid-may, hopefully May 14th 2011. Everyone keeps telling me how fast your engagement goes, so I guess we're all not planning that far in advace My fiance and I are actually going on vacation to mexico in 2 weeks!! My hopes are set on the resort we are staying at for our wedding location, but we are also checking out another resort which allows kids. My fiance has 3 cousins that will all be 12 and under when we get married, so we haven't completely decided what to do with adults only vs. family friendly... Hopefully we will have decided the wedding resort once our upcoming vacation is over. We'll be looking at Dreams Riviera Cancun and staying at the Valentin Imperial Maya, so if anyone wants advice about these two resorts, ask me after February 6th! Is anyone considering family friendly places for their wedding? After reading trip advisor reviews and this forum until my eyes are bloodshot, it seems like the adults only places offer a bit more in terms of luxury. We're also planning for 50-60 guests (maybe more?) so its seems a shame to pick a family friendly place for 3 kids... but hopefully we'll have a more soild idea of what to do after visiting the different resorts.
  8. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and your advice! We're still debating on whether to have kids at the wedding or not... rather I should say my fiance is up in the air about making a decision! (I already know how I feel on the subject, but the kids are in his family) Hopefully we can decide that in the next couple weeks since Jan 30th we're heading to Mexico to check out potential wedding resorts!
  9. Hi to everyone! I'm Sarah -I just joined the site and I'm planning to have my wedding in the Riviera Maya in May 2011. I'm currently looking at the Valentin Imperial Maya resort and the Dreams Riviera Cancun. We're not 100% sure if we're going to do an adults only or family friendly resort yet... either way we will likely have 50-60 guests If anyone has any advice about weddings at the Valentin Maya or Dreams Riviera Cancun, your comments would be greatly appreciated!
