  1. hey ladies, anyone that has been to a civil ceremony at mp or been married there themselves, i have a question. 1. how long does the ceremony last? 2. how did they play your music?

my WC has said we need 5 songs, one for walking down the aisle, one for signing the register, one for the kiss, one for 'we pronounce you man and wife' and one for walking out. but i can't really work it out, because im assuming whatever song you choose for 'the kiss' or the 'man and wife' bit is only going to be played for a few seconds?!

did anyone have waiting music? for before the bride arrived? did anyone have a sand ceremony? did you play any background music?

    thanks!!

hey, no probs at all. i had my friend make them, she's a graphic designer. i'm sure she could do them for you but i don't know much she charges. if you're interested i can give you her email address. they're about 4" by 3" at a guess, maybe a little smaller. they're printed on folded card.

we don't have the budget to have all the amazing touches you can at a wedding, so we thought we'd make personal touches. photos of guests is always a nice touch, i think they'll love them. In our 'welcome to mexico' brochure there are also photo's of all the wedding party, they look so cute!
  3. Thanks Josie! Im mega excited now and there seems to be no end of things to do at the mo, i am surprised i thought i was very well prepared and very laid back! i never expected to be so busy!! it's silly things like calling the airline to confirm the extra 20kg baggage, calling the AHR venue to arrange showing the photographers around, chasing the H2B to actually make the playlist etc etc! but it'll all be worth it!

only 8 working days until i'm out of the office for three weeks! now THATS worth celebrating! haha! x

CW emailed today with the new 2011 wedding package price for our hotel and it's a little higher than we want to pay. Only around £250 but i'm gonna email the WC at the hotel direct and see if she can do it any cheaper.. Worth a try a suppose. Every little helps doesn't it? Then hopefully we will confirm and get a contract signed! So exciting!!
that sucks, but deffo worth trying to barter! or even say you'll pay that price if they throw in your flowers/cake/dj or something? try and get something for the cost

i find the cost of chair bows absolutely awful! how can they justify that?! my hotel are charging me $55 for 'set up costs' so she said i can bring anything i want on chairs/tables etc. so i bought the chiffon/taffata from ebay and they're going to put some on chairs (but not every chair, just down the aisle chairs etc)

thanks hon! course i don't mind! basically i bought some 220gsm paper. I designed the invites on powerpoint (I can email you them if you want?) and just printed them onto the paper. then i bought some of that acetate (I think that's what it's called) paper and cut each A4 page into three (long ways) and folded it round the invites and secured it with a tab (all of this from hobbycraft). then i attached the ribbon around the acetate the same way and added the starfish last (again with those sticky tab things) and they looked great!
  5. I had my sand ceremony stuff delivered yesterday, i am SO happy with them! I bought a 200ml bottle and two 100ml bottles from Ebay (Glass Bottles items - Get great deals on Storage Jars, Candleholders items on eBay.co.uk Shops!) and they are EXACTLY what i was looking for! I had a problem with this because most of the sites that sell sand ceremony kits are from the states. they're only about $50 for the kit, but then you have @ $45 delivery costs to the uk, and i just wasn't prepared to pay that much money. these bottles cost me £19 including delivery! Perfect!!

the big one is about 6" tall and the smaller ones about 4.5" tall. our plan is to fill the smaller ones with sand from the beach we're getting married on (about 3/4 full) and then, before the ceremony when people are arriving and taking their seats each guest has to take a pinch of sand from the beach and drop it in the main bottle, along with a wish for our future together.

when we do the ceremony the judge will read the wording whilst Andy and I pour our sand from our pots into the main bottle. i hope it's as lovely as i imagine!

also our playing cards got delivered yesterday and they are fab! love them!

  6. hey girls, some of you have seen it, but it's done now! link in my sig!

for uploading a pic, if it's on the internet you just need to paste the link but put infront of the link (no spaces) and at the end! it should then appear as a pic in the post. photobucket is what i use too :) when you upload a pic there, when you hover your mouse over the pic you want to upload a selection of links come up below, choose the link and just post that (when doing that you don in, because the link has it done already) hope that makes sense?!

i bought my sand ceremony stuff yesterday! MEGA excited and MUCH MUCH cheaper than the sets that you can only seem to get from the US and cost a fortune in delivery! i'll try and update my planning thread with them at some point. my bosses are making me 'do' work today. how rude wink.gif

Thanks.
if you take away the cost of the actual 'holiday/vacation' i think we're spending harldy ANYTHING!!! i'm not having any private events though. i've paid for some flowers for the button holes and corsage's for the mums and petals for the girls. which total about $114.

i've bought chiffon ribbons for the aisle chairs which total about $10

    i've bought table runners $10

    table laterns $20

    placecards $20

    favours $80

and then the rest is normal wedding stuff (dress/suits/gifts etc). you don't have to spend a lot if you don't want to/cant. I am having an AHR so i wanted to do MP cheaper.

I get married on the beach in 3weeks and 1 day! YIPEEEE! I'll let you know how it goes!

as for sides, there are three. Sunrise (more lively/family) Nizuc (family - not as loud, no kids clubs etc) and Grand side (bigger rooms, a lot quieter, infinity pools) I aim to be at Grand side EVERYDAY after the wedding, but i'll be at Sunrise before to spend time with the children in our group! I can't WAIT to be in the pool with them! WAHOOOOOOOOO!

we made them! what a palava that was!! we bought the mini bottles from Boots (in the UK) and then bought big bottles of Aloe Vera and had to distill them. it sounds easy. it wasn't!! we had to make funnels from card and push the aloe through with a pencil! took AGES! we done 12 of the 15 and ran out of aloe, so i bought more (a different brand) and it came with a lid that kind of had a squirty funnel. with those i just squirted it directly in the bottle and filled three up in about 20 seconds!! haha! Typical! so my advice, if you're going to do it, is to check the bottles the big Aloe comes in, so you can squeeze them into the little ones easily!!

  11. Hey all

i thought it might help a few UK Brides if i did a planning thread! hope it's of some help!

My H2B and I got engaged in March 2009, after dating for just under 6 weeks!! He's the absolutely man of my dreams and i knew even then he was the man i would spend the rest of my life with!

I knew i wanted a Destination wedding, it's a bit of a tradition in our family! my parents got married in a very Hippy style in Oahu back in 1975, and my brother got married at a Gorgeous hotel in Oahu in 2009 so it was only normal for me to do something similar! I didn't fancy Hawaii so i spent weeks and weeks on my decision. i looked into France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus and Thailand, but none really 'hit the spot'. then i came across The Moon Palace and fell in love! it was exactly what i was looking for. I wanted somewhere relatively easy to get to from the UK (and there are sooooooo many cancun package deals!) and that was established in weddings. I also found out i could negotiate 30% external guests, so i knew some people could book cheaper options and still come to our day. I also knew i wanted an all inclusive resort, that way it's paid and done, and no matter how many people we invited it wouldn't be dramatic in the cost increase!! (Although i later found out we could only have a complimentory event for up to 35 people, which worked out well because there are 35 of us!!!)

I booked the Comlimentary package, and once that was done, i could get going on the plans!

the first thing i did was send invites out. I made them myself and loved them. In hindsight i wish i'd made them in my wedding colours, but i didn't know the scheme at the time! but even so, i love my invites and they went down a storm with our guests

Click the image to open in full size.

they are three pages in total, front page, info page and rsvp page. they are held together with an acetate sheet and ribbon and a real starfish (my goodness they smelt bad when they were delivered!!)

on the info page i also had a 'save the date' section for our AHR, which actually ended up changing venues/dates! but i recently sent the AHR Invites and they look like this

Click the image to open in full size.

Once invites were out and replies came in i started on the visual things. I went wedding dress shopping early and had my heart set on an 'untraditional' dress. i knew i wanted to get married on the beach, so that was in my mind too. I HATED wedding dress shopping. i was heavier (I've lost 3 stone/19kgs now) and i felt uncomfortable and nothing fitted. The dress i bought was a very pretty lemon dress that covered me up. in hindsight i wish i had waited. Once i lost the weight and re-tried on my dress, i really didn't like it. it just hid my body and didn't emphasize my new shape. i was in tears, so the next day i went out with my mum dress shopping, and got a sample 'traditional' dress off the peg, which i absolutely LOVE!!! i wish i had waited to go dress shopping to when i'd lost weight, but it's too late for that and i now love love love my gorgeous dress!

and these are my FABULOUS shoes!!

Click the image to open in full size.

unfortunately i also bought a lemon birdcage veil which set me back £95 which is beautiful, but i can't wear it now!

I asked three girls to be my BM's, only one is able to come. I knew i wanted the boys in Navy so i asked her to choose any dress she wanted and felt good in, as long as it was Navy. My BM is gorgeous, so she'd look good in a binbag to be honest! but she chose this dress

Click the image to open in full size.

it's so lovely and really suits her! i love it!

i have three flower girls and one page boy. All the boys (the two dads, the best man and my pageboy) are wearing navy slim cut trousers from M&S and white short sleeved shirts (also from M&S) my H2B was adamant he wanted to wear a suit (in that heat? he's mad!!) so he bought the trousers the same as the boys and the jacket to match. we had his shirt made (cost more than the suit!!) from Diverso (Diverso) and it's just sooooooooooooo lovely! once we have it i'll take a pic.

my flower girls are wearing this dress, and they look adorable!

Click the image to open in full size.

I have asked the MP for my complimentary bouquet to be lemon, but my BM will use that, as i am walking down the aisle with my mum and dad, i won't have a hand free!! Andy will have the complimentary Button hole in lemon.

i have ordered lemon and ivory buttonholes for the boys and two corsages for our mum's from maya diseno floral ([email protected]) he's been amazing. The Moon Palace have no external vendor policies but Marvin is going to deliver them to us at the hotel as if they're a gift from someone back home in the UK! he's such a star! MP quoted us $30 per button hole (WTF?!!) and Marvin is doing them for $8!

we are having the complimentory cake from MP. I don't overly care about a wedding cake, but H2B is into it! we've gone for this one

Click the image to open in full size.

but i've asked for lemon icing, i have bought a navy ribbon to go round it.

i also ordered a cake topper from Kressies (wedding favours items - Get great deals on cake toppers, party tableware items on eBay.co.uk Shops!) which hasn't arrived yet. My H2B is a police officer and West Ham fan, so they've done it to those ideas, with a palm tree (I think, i can't rememeber what i've ordered now! haha!) and a bottle of tequilla! once it arrives i'll take a pic! when i ordered it i asked for me to be in a lemon dress! so i had a panic calling them to see if i could change it, and luckily it was no problem! phew!

for gifts i have bought my BM these earrings from swarvoski. i love them and i want me to have them! i've hinted to my H2B!
