  1. Hi Kathy! Mexico has so much to offer that I was overwhelmed which part of Mexico to have it in. Location, location, location! Whichever location you choose, it will be beautiful. Congrats again and happy planning.

I have been spending a LOT of time here on the forum.

I am thinking about March/April timeframe in Cancun but worried about spring breakers. Anyone have any experience with that? What would be the best time to avoid the college spring breakers?

    Thanks!
Congratulations and Welcome! Perhaps you could do last week of April. I think it should be over by then. I think it also depends on the resort because some resorts cater towards the spring breakers than others. Good luck and happy planning.

  4. Congratulations and Welcome to the forum! My thing when I was considering locations was the trip duration. Punta Cana from Florida should be a breeze in flying time. I would consider that if I'm flying my whole family down. Once you start looking at the different resorts, you'll start seeing the differences and will know exactly what you want.

  5. Congratulations and Welcome to the forum! There is a Dreams Resort in Punta Cana, DR as well. I felt that their wedding packages were reasonable when I was researching online. But like others said, depends what you are looking for.

  6. Hello and congrats! I live in NY too and was fortunate enough to have gone to Bermuda in July and found it to be one of my most favorite islands. Although I did not decide to have my DW there because I was looking for an all inclusive to suit my family and friends, our wish was to have it there. The flight duration from NY is about 1hr and a half which is great. Bermuda is super romantic and has the most strikingly beautiful blue water. You can't rent a car in Bermuda so it's either you cab, bus or moped it. Mopeding it with my FI exploring the island was the best. I stayed on the West End of the island which is very layed back and I feel less touristy. I stayed at 9Beaches Resort which has cabana's in the water is an Eco Friendly resort. It was kind of roughing it but I wanted a different experience. I also visitied Cambridge Beaches for dinner and Fairmont Princess in Southhampton for a massage both very nice resorts. The only thing I have to say that's a little bit negative about Bermuda is that it is kind of expensive.

  7. Congratulations and great choice on resorts. I'm from NY also so when I was researching destinations and all inclusives, was in debating over Bahamas and Cancun. I loved the Sandals in the Bahamas but it didn't allow children so I went with Dreams in Cancun. You will have an awesome time.

If you are having something intimate I really dont recommend spending all that money on it... good luck
Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely keep that in mind.
  9. Congrats! I just came back from the riu palace this weekend and have to say how much fun I had. The resort was uncrowded due to the hurricane season which was a nice surprise. All of the hotel staff was gracious and the resort is super clean. They clean your room in the afternoon and then have turn down service. One night we stayed in and ordered room service because it was raining and the maid knocked on the door and made sure we were OK and needed anything. Hotel transfers aren't included unless you book through a travel agent. I booked mine through Clives Transportation and it was only $20.00/pp. I did see a very intimate wedding of 4 including the bride and groom and got married on the beach. I have to say the sunsets are as amazing as people describe.

i am so glad you had a great time!

As for the sun..We had the same problem. The sun was in our eyes and alot of us were squinting. Some of the guys were complaining that they couldn't open their eyes, but we got through it and it wasnt so bad.
We got married at 5:30 pm, so even at 6 when we were taking pictures it was blazin! Although by the time we got to the lighthouse, it was setting.

I am really happy for you!! Congrats again!!
Wow and I was thinking of doing pictures before the ceremony. I know it's super taboo but I really want to enjoy cocktail hour with the guests since we will have the mariachi trio as well. I hope I won't melt. I don't know how you ladies did it. You both don't look like you broke a sweat...lol!

My FI and I were there (Dreams Cancun) from July 5-12 in 2008 and I thought the weather was great! I can only remember it raining one evening and it didn't last long. Yes, it is hot in July, but it is also pretty windy so I didn't mind the heat as much. I tend to enjoy hot weather though, so that may just be me! Hope that helps!
Thank you so much for your perspective. That is exciting. We definitely should keep in touch. Have you contacted Dreams yet?

My best advice as you start down the road to your wedding day would be just to take your time and do lots of research before you book or buy anything (attire, flowers, you name it!) and make sure it's all that you've envisioned for your BIG DAY!

And that's where this phenomenal site comes in: BDW has proven to be invaluable in my planning, and it's comforting to know that there are other brides and grooms out there experiencing the same highs and lows during their planning process...a friend is always just on the other side of your computer screen!

CONGRATULATIONS and Welcome to BDW...it's a wedding-planning heaven!
Island Bride, I'm going to be in Jamaica this weekend. But I'm staying at the Riu Tropical Bay in Negril for only 3 days. I can't wait to go, I heard Jamaica has the most beautiful beaches/sunsets. Congrats on your decision.
  12. This question goes to out to all past brides whose had Live Music at their ceremony. Can you tell me about your experience? What type of musician did you use? Was it worth it? Who did you use? From what I see that most of the musicans are local it's difficult to hear a sample of what they play.

I'm planning a wedding in Dreams Cancun and if anyone has experience with their live music options, I am grateful to for your input.

I hope this helps all brides considering Live Music at their ceremony.

Thanks in advance for helping this newbie out. smile03.gif

  13. Thanks for your review. I appreciate all the pics especially of your reception. I am also planning a similar set up on Carribean beach reception/cocktail hour. Is that where you had yours? I did give up on getting an outside photographer because we wanted a few other things like a lounge set and live music for the ceremony (FI's request not mine). Plus, Cecilia is charging $100 fee for outside photographers and videographers.
