  1. Are these the stylists at the resort salon? I am stressing about what to do about hair and makeup. One of my girl friends was going to do it, but now it looks like she can't come on the trip. So I am going to have to book something. Please let me know how I should go about doing that. I am thinking about getting a stylist here at home to do my hair and take a picture of it to show the hairdresser there.....just in case there is a language barrier as well! lol
  2. Thank you Abbie & Angie, that is a good suggestion to go with the "remember package" I think I might end up going that route. Man I cannot believe it is only 4 months away? Who else will be down there end of March / begining of April?
  3. My poolside dinner price does not include DJ, just dinner and 2 hours of bar. So I will pay $1160 for the ceremony, $1015 for dinner and 2 hours of bar, $600 for DJ, and then 3 hours of bar per person per hour (price depending on what bar I choose). It is not the poolside dinner price that I am worried about, I know I am paying for an extra service; it is more the ceremony price that seems a bit high if I am only doing a symbolic and not having the restaurant dinner. But if that is what everyone is paying, I guess it is correct.
  4. I had a really hard time finding the exact coral that I was looking for, but finally found it in a Dessy dress in the color called firecracker. The color is quite similar to the dress above but maybe a little deeper. I ordered the dresses online, 1 dress from houseofbrides.com and the other 3 from dressforlessbridal.com. The dress from houseofbrides took about 3.5 months to come in, but it was longer than they originally told me. Because I was getting so nervous with it taking longer than they said, and they could not confirm how much longer it would take, so I ended up ordering the rest of the dresses from dressforlessbridal. I have to say I was way more impresses with the service from dressforlessbridal. They call you the next day to confirm your order and assure you of the delivery date. I just received the houseofbrides dress and the quality is just ok. The color and style is great, but I have a hard time believing that it is an actually Dessy dress like they say. It seems a bit rough on some of the seems. Dressforlessbridal.com guarantees that their dresses are actually from Dessy. I just hope that all 4 will match now. I will let you know about the quality of the dressforless when I get them. Cheers
  5. I am having the poolside dinner, so the prices that I was quoted wont help you, but I am pretty sure that further back in this thread there are the reception only prices. I have a question for all of you about the wedding package prices. We are just doing the symbolic ceremony so were going to go with the Deluxe Package at $1160US. However, I am starting to think we are getting a bit ripped off with this as we are not using the "included dinner" we are paying an additional $1015 US for the poolside dinner anyway. So really we are paying $1160 for the non legal minister, flower arrangement, cake, transportation for the bride, and a few amenities. Seems a bit much. Is there anyone else out there that is paying for the poolside dinner getting a different ceremony package? Thanks for your help
  6. Well I've booked! We choose the Eldorado Royal Resort and booked one of the Casita infinity pool suites. A lot more than we were originally planning to spend, but the suites are beautiful, and that have great reviews on line. Check out the videos on Youtube if you are interested. I am sooooo excited!!
  7. We are having our reception and dinner poolside. I wanted to have a private dinner for speeches etc. and it looks really beautiful. We were quoted $50 per person for the dinner which includes 3 hours of bar, then we would have to pay something like $5per person per hour for the extra hours of bar (depending on what you want on the bar). We are staying in Mexico for two weeks, but for the second week we are moving to a different resort. We are still trying to decide which one right now though. It is hard! The Eldorado Royal looks nice, but so does Secrets Maroma and many others. Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations on where they stayed?
  8. I got my dress at Image in White in New West, and loved it. Diane the owner is so nice and helpful, and makes you feel like one of the family once you buy a dress there. Her followup has been so great. It is a smaller shop so you definitely get the one on one attention. Lisa's Bridal was also good, I found the ladies nice and helpful. Bridal Gallery, I wasn't too keen on, the ladies were a bit snobbish and it always seemed busy & crowded in there.
  9. I believe they test for HIV and syphilis, strange I know, but the Mexican government wont let you get married if you are positive for either of these. You have to get the blood tests there by their doctor. This is only if you are getting the legal marriage. We opted for the symbolic so that we can by pass this, and also because we are only arriving 2 days before our wedding date. you need to be there 4 days prior for blood test to do the legal ceremony.
  10. Thank you for posting this. I ordered one dress from houseofbrides.com to first see the quality/color etc before ordering the other 3 dresses I need, but it has not arrived yet. It has been 11 weeks already! I don't think I will have time to order the other 3 dresses from them now, so I will order them from dressforlessbridal.com instead and just pay the rush fee. I don't mind paying the extra fee for rushing it, but I don't think I trust HOB right now. I wish that I new about the dressforlessbridal website before, as it is cheaper that HOB. Thanks for the info, you saved me big time!
  11. I am also torn between which resort to choose. I have been looking into the El Dorado Royal and Royale Playa del Carmen, but am open to other suggestions as well. We are looking for somewhere fun but romantic; with a great pool atmosphere, great beach where you can relax, good food but also the option of some night life (lively lounge with music) so we have the option to mingle and have fun on one or two nights. Doesn't have to have a disco or anything, just a lounge with some atmosphere. What is the lounge scene like at the EDR and Royale PDC? do they have entertainment?
  12. I really like the idea of the paper lanterns! I also have tissue paper pom poms in my wedding color that I want to hang from the grass umbrella things that are around the poolside reception area, but I would love to do the lanterns too. Does anyone know if there is somewhere to hang the lanterns around the poolside area (other than the umbrellas)? I don't want to hand them both in the same spot. Let me know your suggestions! Thanks Nikki
  13. I am using DJ Bob, and I have heard great things about him. He charges $400 for a 2 hour reception, or $600 for full dinner & dance. You can use his mic and speakers for speaches and he will play music during dinner. There have been past posts on here about brides using ipods for the private receptions and it was not recommended. Apparentley, the wind and waves drown out the music. It may be ok if you are at Coba, but Akumal & Tulum might be risky. For anyone else that is having the poolside dinner at Akumal, what menu options were you given? I was given the options of Tacos OR Burgers/ Hotdogs OR Seafood Paella OR Mixed grill. Obviously we went with mixed grill, (hotdogs just don't say wedding, lol) but I was hoping for better options that this. Just wondering if anyone got anything different.
  14. Welcome to the group! I'm an Akumal Bride, but I have been to the resort before and stayed on the Tulum side and loved it! Congrats! Â

  17. How was the quality of the pants from this site? I am looking at the basic linen pant for $46. It is a good deal, but were you happy with the quality?

  19. A question for those of you who had beach weddings: is the sand too hot to go barefoot, or has this been done before? I am getting married in April and was hoping to do so. I have been down to GBP once before in Sept, but cannot remember if it was too hot to go barefoot. Thanks
  20. Wow, it had been afew months since I had been on the site, so just got through all 30 or so pages! I love this site. I am having our rehersal dinner on a Thursday night, and have heard that there is a buffet dinner and Fiesta dance (live music) at the Hacienda on Thursdays. Does anyone know anything about this. i was wondering if anyone has been able to reserve a table here before? Any info would be great, what kind of food, events.... Thanks ladies!
  21. Hello waybuloo, would you mind emailing me the flower price list as well [email protected]. Thanks Â

I'm so happy that I can still get married at the Akumal beach location, despite not staying there. Do you have your dinner and reception at the same place as your wedding or do you have them where you are staying? Just curious. I thought I read somewhere that you had to have your dinner and reception where you were staying. Thanks! Hi Abbie32, I'll be at the restort at the same time as you! I am getting married on April 1, 2011, but will be at the resort until the 8th. When do you arrive there? Were getting married at the Akumal Hammock location too, and then a poolside dinner & reception at Akumal were we are staying. Â
