Great Review Brie! Glad you guys had a great time and everything turned out well. Congrats!!

Do you mean the lights hanging in the pic I posted of UTs? That is a pic I found online - I'm pretty syre the lights are theirs.
I actually went to the new Secrets St.James/Wild Orchid, and I have to say it did NOT compare to the Iberostar. It was a gorgeous, brand new resort, beautiful decor and we upgraded to the preffered building which had a heated pool and free wifi on the beach. But the food was definetly not as good (and I stayed at the Beach hotel!) and the service wasnt as friendly. I'll be posting my review for that resort soon with more deets.
You were smart to stay your second week at the Grand - I thought I might be tired of the Iberostar and would want a change of scenery - I wish I had stayed at the Grand instead. When we go back we'll stay there for sure!
Daisy - YOu can have your dancing on the beach, but they will not set-up dinner tables on the sand. You can only have dinner in the restaurants or on the patio of Uncle Tony's at the beach resort.
Mrs Smith - I would def try calling. I found that was always the best way to get a quick answer. I added a few bucks on my Skype app for iphone for my Jamaica calls - worked great!
Misee - Organza is typically a sheer fabric (see through) that is slightly stiffer. Satin is opaque and softer, so that should help you decide. Personally, I like satin
For you ladies looking at rates - rates are always typically cheaper in the summer due to the fact that it is hurricane season and because, well, its summer.

verrry carefully. hahaha
We flew with West Jet, which at the time allowed 2 checked bags, on carry-on per guest. We had 5 bags between hubby and I, so we gave one to the Best Man to bring for us.

Fabulous Review!! Too bad we didnt get to meet - the last few days were pretty busy for me anyways Glad to see it all went well. Too bad about the rain - we had some on our day too.

Thanks in advance!
Daisy - probebely best to call the hotel - I'mnot sure which of the 3 you wanted to book your date at but if you check the iberostar website you can find contact info for them there. http://www.iberostar.com/EN/our-hotels.html

I also believe that you should simply include all information about gifts and your reasons why you chose a DW on your wedding website. You will always encounter those who are 'against' destination weddings and will harp on you no matter what you say. Just keep reminding yourself that you are not doing anything wrong by having a DW, there are tons of us out there who do this and those who do attend have the time of their lives!!! There is nothing quite like a DW and you are bringing an amazing experience to those who do come.
Stay positive and stick to your guns. You will not regret your decision, no matter how many negative remarks you encounter.
Happy Planning!

They are wedding decorators in Jamaica so they might want to try to sell more of their services along with the rental though...I bet that would be a hassle. I was wondering about plastic vases if they are a must have. Is Tai Flora just that expensive? I still have not heard from them, but I will like to see a quote first before I start buying decor for the reception. If you are the person that likes to see the flowers I really suggest Michael's. They have beautiful flowers!!!
What would be a hassle? Cause the resort staff would do all the work (filling the vases with water, etc). Or maybe you meant contacting pussbackfoot would be a hassle? You never know unless you try! If the vase rental is only a couple bucks each (which it should be!) and fake flowers are only a couple bucks too, you may save yourself some money. One of my friends did this for her centrepeices with calla lillies and I never would've guessed they were fake. Just offering options to you guys

You have been so quick to get back to everyone thank for all your help for us nervous girls!
BOOOO!! That blows! We brought FIVE checked bags with us (gave one to the best man to bring).
Well, just check that a 2nd bag is ok coming back from Jamaica - weird that they have different rules at each airport, but they do!
Also, since we left some stuff behind (my huppa flower arrangements mostly, I actually didnt mean to forget those but, oh well) we only came back with 4 bags (had two inside eachother).

I added more pics that I gathered online during my wedding planning of Uncle Tony's here:

OH and ladies - I had to pay a $75 day pass AND a $100 vendor fee to have the outside DJ come. Which really sucked. Since the resort DJ has been getting good reviews - I'd go ahead and use him to save that money. But you 'Beach' gals make sure its the same DJ they use at the Suites, since that's the one that's been getting the good reviews.
If there are any 'Beach' brides that used the resort DJ please weigh in here.

I posted my review of JA DJ Kevan Stewart for anyone who is interested:

Congrats Brie!!!
It took the same amount of time it says on their website - cant remember exactly, I think 3 weeks or a month?
Did you see my review Vaneska? There are some photos of my reception there. I originally wanted to have my reception on the patio of UTs, which I think would be beautiful! I had to move inside due to rain. Turqouise was one of my wedding colours so it really worked for me, but I didn't much like the open kitchen area. Its not ugly inside or anything though. Its not a ballroom, its a beachside restaurant - you can't beat the beauty of dining by the beach if you ask me!
You can use whatever florist you want. I used boulevard florist. Review of them to come! -

Â
Thanks a bunch for taking the time to share all this wonderful information.

Thanks Chanelle! I'm glad you liked my planning thread and I hope it inspired you!! See about two or three posts before yours I explained where I did my photobook. Any photobook site has software to help you lay it out nicely. Happy planning! -
Hi jones, yes! Each person is allowed 2 checked bags and one carryon. Just make sure your checked bags aren't overweight. On your way home, the mo bay airport doesn't allow overweight luggage. Like at all. You have to makebsure both bags are under or you'll be leaving stuff behind at the airport!

Breeze, Great review!! Are the pictures you have from the resort photographer? You wedding really looked beautiful!! When you were talking about the huppa was it not the way you wanted it in the end? I want something like what you have in your planning thread. Is that not possible? Either way, I think it turned out very well!! Congrats on being a Mrs.!
Â
Hi Bee, it was only because of the wind that the original plan didn't work. You'll see they ended up wrapping the white chiffon and none was hanging free otherwise it would have been all over us. Luckily my MOH devised a way to put the colored chiffon across the top at least, so we had the punch of colour I wanted. Only the ceremony photos I put in the review were from the resort photog. The rest were what friends took. Hopefully I'll have my pro photos to share soon!! -
Hahahaha Bridetwobe - so many questions!! I remember being in your shoes...
My best advice to ALL the new brides:
1) Read through this thread from beginnning to end. I know its 137 pages, but you will find answers to almost everything in it. There is no reason for us to have to retype the answers to the same questions over and over with each new bride that joins. This way, we also keep the thread smaller and more manageable to read.
2) Read the reviews on each Iberostar hotel in the new review section and the old review section.
3) Read some of the planning threads
4) Use the search bar! Most likely your questions have been answered somewhere on this site - the search bar will find it
Happy Planning!!!

So I finally posted my review!! No pro pics yet though... DYING to see them!!!

WOW!! Hello 2012 brides!! I shoulda known the thread would explode shortly after the holidays with all the xmas engagementsOriginally Posted by mrsgreene2011
Hey Bridetwobe,
I guess I needed to figure out what to start on next. I wanted to work on things, (favors, brochures, oot bags,)but I was wondering if I needed to have a final guest count before I started. My future father-in-law is a photographer and is going to take the photos as a wedding gift. I am so lucky because he is really, really good. I wanted to work on decorations, but its hard to get a visual for a place you have never seen. Are you using a DJ or band. I was thinking of using a DJ, but wasn't sure how good the resorts is.
Hi Mrs. Greene - My advice - get as much done asap as possible. Don't worry about final numbers, just guesstimate and get it done. The last few months before the wedding are INSANE. I underestimated how much I had to do and pulled a lot of all-nighters to complete everything. I also had a lot of DIY stuff though too. There are lots of to-do lists to be found on this site and others - get one and edit it for yourself.

My fiance likes the suits your husband and groomsmen wore, can you please provide more details about their suits...Is it the regular linen suit, what color linen did they order, did they wrinkle badly? I like the weight of Linen but hate how it wrinkles and looks messy at the end of the day.
MrsDeloatch: What color did your fiance get?
Thank you for any info you can provide!
Thanks Prettysparklie!! We did the standard $99 lineen suit, we got English beige, which was a light greyish/beige. I originally wanted grey suits for the guys but because I didnt start shopping until the fall/winter I couldn't find anything and the linen didn't come in grey. But they looked really great. The pants were wrinkled by like 1 am but were fine for most of the day/night. We brought one of those portable steamers and the guys steamed their suits before putting them on.
Congrats Brie!! Have a blast!!!
Thanks Beetee33! -
I'm in canada so I used canadaphotobooks.com. But there are lots of other sites you can use. Just do search on the forum for photobooks and you will see what other brides have used as well.
Glad you liked my thread!!

I had a hard time finding them in Canada - I finally did here: https://www.acklandsgrainger.com/AGIPortalWeb/WebSource/ProductDisplay/globalProductDetailDisplay.do?item_code=IDM1815-1110
There are other places in the US you can get them. Just do a search on the forum for 'key card holders' and you'll find a ton.
Glad you liked my thread!!

hi chanelle, We got the suits from studiosuits.com ! Many bdw brides have used them, they make custom linen suits for $99! Just make sure you guys get measured by a pro seamstress and send the measurements in online. They looked great because they fit like a glove.

Did your husband uses any of the services there?
I know, I researched bringing a make-up artist too and the cost just didnt make sense. I had guest who is really good with make up and she came by at a set time and just blended my eyeshadow a bit more to make it more smoky looking.
Yes, your marriage in Jamaica is legal in the US. You can use your Jamaican marriage certificate anywhere you need.
I have no idea why they didnt put the lashes on. Luckily I'm pretty good at it anyways. I think the total for hair and make-up was $150? I think hair $80 and make-up $70? someone posted the spa prices in this thread somewhere.

Hi Natalie,
Yes, I bought the seed beads in bulk on Ebay. Much better pricing. The seller I used isnt listed anymore... weird. But there's tons. The glue I use is E6000 or Amazing Goop - any of those in the glue aisle at Micheals that dont dry too quickly are are not runny.

I will be featuring how to make these on my upcoming blog - stay tuned!!
ashaun - If you can do it, try to change it. Honestly, the food and atmosphere different enough at the Grand that it wont feel repetitive. There were other things I didn't like about Secrets too - like the mosquitos!! They were bad there. There are NONE at the iberostar.
It can be hung loosely - it is mostly wrapped because it is usually to windy to hang loosely.
