  1. This review is fantastic, we are getting married at the same resort almost exactly 1 year after your wedding! Did you book La Uva restaurant in advance for the reception? If so, how far in advance? Was there an option to have a private reception in that restaurant?
  2. Hi Majortomm, Yes, that was the group rate. It seems like the only upside to a group rate is that you get a free booking with every 16 or so people booked (can't remember how many exactly). I'm not sure where else to look - any suggestions for other resorts in Negril that would not be too $$$$?
  3. Hello, I have received a quote for a wedding in January 2010 at Riu Tropical Bay - it came out to $2100 plus tax (CDN) per person from Toronto, and $2300 from Calgary. (all-inclusive, flights included) This price seems quite high to ask of wedding guests for a week in Jamaica. I recently spoke to a travel agent who mentioned prices may drop in April/May for a January 2010 wedding - does anyone have any advice on when my guests should book, and by how much the price might drop? I'd be interested to hear if you have had a similar experience, and what your guests ended up paying (DM me if you would like to keep it private). Thanks!
  4. Thanks HCharles. Has anyone else heard of similar problems with BRB?
  5. Hi HilaryDale, We were also considering ROR but after reading about BRB, we have had the same thoughts and are considering switching over to BRB. There are a few recommendations on this site - search for Breezes Runaway Bay - and several people have been there. I haven't heard many bad things yet. I'm particularly wondering about the food - does anyone have any comments about whether it the food is any good at BRB? Thanks!
  6. Hi everyone, I am looking for recommendations for Toronto-area bridal shops that carry destination wedding dresses - preferably something that I won't roast in when I'm in Jamaica! If it helps, I'm hoping to spend less than $500 on my dress. Thanks!
  7. Thanks for the update Jill! That is very helpful. I will send her a note.
  8. Wow - reading this I have a LOT to do - everything in fact! I have been waiting on quotes from TAs about a Riu Ocho Rios wedding, but have heard absolutely nothing from anyone, including a note I sent directly to the hotel's wedding coordinator. I am getting a bit worried. Also - do any Jamaica brides have any worries about November weather? Last year it was not so nice at that time of year. Are you recommending extra travel insurance to your guests, etc.? Any tips are welcome.
  9. For the Canadian brides: are you using Canadian-based travel agents? Can anyone recommend a TA? Thanks!!
  10. Hello everyone, I have sent requests for quotes to two of the TAs that run this site, as well as a direct request for a quote to the ROR directly, but no one has responded and it's been over 2 weeks since I sent the first note to ROR about my preferred wedding date. Has anyone else had similar problems? Should I be doing anything differently? I would appreciate any and all recommendations for travel agents for a Riu Ocho Rios or Jamaica wedding in general, someone who could book guests coming in from Canada (mostly), US, UK, and potentially the Middle East. Thanks in advance!
  11. Thanks so much for this review - we have been considering Ocho Rios and ROR so this has been VERY helpful. So nice to see reviews of the activities you can do outside the resort as well. Congratulations!
  12. Hello! We have been engaged for 6 months already and haven't been able to settle on a location - or even a country for our DW. Lately, Jamaica has been our top choice. If anyone has any advice for Jamaica that would be much appreciated. Hoping to get married in early Nov 2009, with a group size from 30-60 people. Thanks!
