I wouldn't actually change yet but it might be usefull to do a little research now so that if worse comes to worse you will have a bit of the work done in advance. Thanks SunBride...I think you are right. I'm just going to wait a few weeks and see what happens. I talked to my fiancee last night and he said the same thing. We are so excited about going to Dreams Tulum...our neighbor recently went to a wedding there and showed us the pics...it was beautiful. And we already have our friends and family excited about going to this resort too. I'm just gonna wait and see! Well, I've been procrastinating on my Save The Dates and I guess that's a good thing now. I guess I should hold off sending those for a few weeks just in case.
  2. Hi girls- Wow...what a week huh? For those of you getting married in the next few weeks...hang in there. I'm sure everything will turn out beautifully and in the end the result will be the same...you'll be married to the love of your life! My wedding isn't until next July but I must admit that this whole situation has me stressed. This morning I was ready to go to the local JP and just be done with it, by lunch I had decided to have a local wedding, after lunch I decided I definitely wanted a destination wedding but at a different resort, then I decided to get married in my backyard because I know it will be available when ever I want it, and then....wellllll after all that I decided to drink some wine! The best decision I've made all day. I'm curious about the girls that have weddings scheduled further out...are you planning to stick with Dreams Tulum or are you going to try to book your wedding elsewhere? It sounds like the closure is temporary but a court battle could be in the works. My worst fear is that the court battle will end with a permanent closure around the time of my wedding. I just don't know if it's worth the uncertainty at this point. Honestly I don't know what to do and would love to hear your thoughts. Amy
  3. Oh...good to know about the Walmart in Playa! I need to pick up water and snacks for my guest's out of town bags when I get there so I don't have to haul it down. We were going to take the shuttle to the resort but I'm wondering if we might want to rent a car so we can stop and get stuff at Walmart on the way. Did anyone else rent a car when they were down there?
  4. Hi there! I'm a July 2009 bride too. We're getting married at Dreams Tulum on July 18, 2009. Wow...that sounds so far away but I guess it'll be here before I know it! I just hope my fiancee can handle the wedding talk for an entire year. Anytime I start talking about the wedding details his eyes glaze over!
  5. I have and highly recommend it! I've traveled across Europe twice on a Eurail pass. I went to 5 countries and only had to take a cab twice. It goes everywhere and is so convenient. I did the Global Pass but there are some less expensive options available if you just want to go to a couple of countries. Where are you planning on going? The trains in some countries are better than others but overall I felt safe at all times. They even have night trains. I took one from Florence, Italy to Munich, Germany (on my way to Oktoberfest ). You have to pay an additional fee for a private sleeper car but it was about the same price as a hotel. The one I stayed in even had a private bathroom with a shower. This is where I got my pass... How to travel by train in Europe: Eurorail, Eurail, Official fares and schedules from Rail Europe Let me know if you have more questions. I spent a LOT of time on the trains!
  6. Hey Girls! I officially booked a few weeks ago...the big day is July 18, 2009. I can't decide if I'm going to do a site visit yet. I want to but I'm thinking about saving that money and paying for my flower girl and ring bearer's flights to the wedding instead. There's so much great info on this site that makes me feel more comfortable doing that. So this is my only concern...the reception location. What if I get there and the reception location is already booked by the other bride that will have their wedding there? There are two weddings a day right so it's possible? I'm not as worried as the ceremony because I've heard that they only have one wedding ceremony going on at a time. I also just read about booking the rain options too...which makes it even more complicated. Can I go ahead and book the reception site now or is it way too far in advance? Did you all wait to you got there and saw everything? Also, has anyone done the beach reception? I can't decide...I really don't want to pay the expense of the dance floor but I think it would be hard to dance without it. Thanks in advance for your help!
  7. Hi ladies! My fiancee and I have decided to get married at wedding at Dreams Tulum and are hoping to book a June 2009 date. I submitted the online form last week but haven't heard anything. I've tried to call a couple of times but I always get voicemail...I left a message earlier today and then followed up with an email. I'm anxious to get booked because everyone keeps asking us for a date. All your posts have been so helpful during the selection process. Any tips on getting a response from the wedding coordinator? How long does it usually take to get the date confirmed? Maybe I'm just being impatient.
  8. Thanks for the TA recommendation! Here's the review I read about the DJ but keep in mind this is for the Azul Beach resort...I'm not sure if they will use the same vendors for weddings at Azul Sensatori. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t23318 I completely agree about food and music making the wedding. My fiancee and I were at a beautiful wedding for one of his co-workers recently. Everything was top notch but the DJ was HORRIBLE so hardly anyone danced and most people left early. I never thought it made a big difference until I went to that wedding. There are a lot of unknowns which I think makes everyone nervous but my friend brought up a good point tonight when we were talking about it at dinner. There are going to be unknowns with any resort...you never know when management might change, or the WC changes, or policies change. It sounds like a lot of people are experiencing similar issues getting answers from the WCs at the other resorts too. I'm seriously considering taking a trip down to the resort right after they open...I think it will be worth it to just set my mind at ease. I never imagined I would get so stressed out over my wedding...my face is breaking out like crazy!!!
  9. Yeah, it does sound like the group rate would be a pain...I don't have a clue how many people will come and definitely not how long they would stay. I'm 99% sure I am booking Azul Senatori for my wedding in April or May of 2009. We are flexible on the date but would prefer a Saturday afternoon (5ish) wedding. We are thinking most people will come in on Thursday, on Friday we'll have the rehearsal (if needed) or maybe a meet and greet, and then the wedding on Saturday. Are any of you doing the private reception? The wedding packages Azul provides don't seem to include quite as much as some of the other ones. I'm wondering if the private reception will cost us a fortune but I think it would be wonderful. I guess I don't have to decide that until we know how many guests are coming. Sorry for so many questions...I'm a planner and I think this whole process of waiting till right before the wedding to select the details might drive me crazy but I am going to stay optimistic and hope it turns out great. I need to discuss it with the fiancee but hopefully I can get booked this week. Picking the location has been a beating so I'm ready for it to be over! You have all helped me so much...many thanks!
  10. Thank you so much...this is great info! It's good to know there's a fellow Dallas girl on the board. It sounds like we have similar requirements for our destination...allows kids, bigger than Azul Beach, service, etc. Everything I've read about this place sounds wonderful...I can't wait! One concern I have is keeping the cost down for the guests. Are you using Lomas Travel to book all your guests? I'd like to get everyone a group rate if possible and have one contact that handles the booking for everyone. How are you handling the booking for your guests?
  11. Hi there! I am in search of a resort for my wedding and am seriously considering Azul Sensatori. I sent an email off requesting information but am wondering if you girls might have some of the answers to my questions. First...what date does it officially open? I heard Fall 2008 but then I saw on another site May of 2009 so I was confused. I want to have my wedding in April or May and figured that if they open this fall that will give them time to work out any issues associated with a new property. Do you have any idea what the wedding site options are? I know they have a roof top one that sounds really cool. I really want to get married on the beach but I kinda want it to be somewhat secluded and not have beach chairs 3 feet away. Also, do you know what the rain/backup locations will be? I am drawn to resorts that have a chapel because if it rains I still want to get married somewhere nice and not in an ugly ballroom or something. Last question...I really want to do a private reception. Do you know what the options are and the cost? Okay, one more...I promise...what made you decide to go with this resort over all the others? For me it's the food and the gourmet inclusive concept. Since I'll be eating like a bird the next few months so I look good in both my wedding dress and bikini I figure I'll want a really yummy meal after the wedding! Thanks for any input you can offer!

    Hi there!

I'm a newbie and just wanted to say hi. My name is Amy and I am from Dallas. I just got engaged a few weeks ago and it's been both exciting and stressful. Originally we started planning for a wedding in Dallas but after talking to my fiancee over the weekend we decided that we really want to do a destination wedding. I think we were planning a Dallas wedding for others...instead of doing what we really want. So we are excited about it and can't wait! I've visited a million reception sites in Dallas trying to find the perfect place and now I need to find the perfect resort. We want to keep the cost down for our guests so I think the Rivieria Maya area will work great. It's just a 2-3 hour flight from here. I've been reading all your posts and they are so helpful. Amy
