  1. JMHein, I'll fiddle with it when I get home - I'm out of town on a business shoot right now. Jennifer I'll play with yours as well. Bigger is definitely better, but that one is really dark AND has a ton of noise in it. But I'll see what I can do. =)

Well I may not have 10,000 posts but I wasn't joking at all. When the economy is in the tank and everyone is feeling it, hundreds of millions of dollars coming in is good for everyone. Of course now there are certain people/places that are refusing to perfom same sex marriages, but that was expected. I'm surprised it took CA this long to do it. But then they're still talking about overturning it yet again, so we'll see what happens. Sorry for detracting from the thread, I am very happy for those people who are now able to get married, and decide to do so.
  3. LOL, I went out last night just with the intent of photographing this "huge" moon. It was big, but I was pretty disappointed. I did get a few shots, but not many. Nothing worth bragging about, it wasn't nearly as big as I had anticiptated. But it was very red when it first came up.

  5. Hey, another Cub fan in San Diego. I grew up in Chicago, moved to SD in 1997. Have since converted to a Padres fan, but catch an occasional Cub game on tv when I can. It really ticked me off when WGN started taking games away, and then started broadcasting WHITE SOX games!!! That's just wrong, nobody likes the White Sox.
  6. Got your add, thanks Stacy. =)
  7. Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I'm always looking to add new friends on MySpace. So if anyone has a page and wants to add us as a friend, we are located right here: MySpace.com - www.COFPhoto.com - 39 - Male - SAN DIEGO, California - www.myspace.com/cofphoto
  8. Hey, rules are rules. But the security guards don't have to be assholes about it. One guard litearlly got right in my face and started yelling at me. This is how we treat our tourists in the post-911 era. I was at the Jefferson Memorial (monument, whatever) at the base of the stairs and the security guard literally came running down the stairs flailing his arms yelling "you can't have that here!" You'd think I was holding a machine gun. And I wasn't even on the first step. Sorry there's no reason to be rude to tourists. Ask them politely to leave, and explain why they have rules, instead of yelling "I don't make the rules, I just enforce them" right in my face.
  9. Not to worry, My Padres are in town, and Your Boys are putting a whooping on us. The Yankees, for all the money that they spend, never seem to understand that PITCHING wins baseball games, not hitting. When they do try to spend money on their rotation they blow it on guys like Carl Pavano, etc.

But if it did, you could easily paint it right back in using the History Tool. Or you could just use the Marquee Tool to select the area with the blue chairs, and only take the blue out of that part of the photo. Or you could create a duplicate layer, take the blue out of the bottom layer, create a layer mask on the top layer and paint over the chairs, showing through to the bottom layer without the blue. Or you could.....

We typically try to get them done in 2-3 weeks, but it really depends on how busy we are at the time and how many photos there are. If we have a full eight hour, full day wedding, we usually have about 1,500 photos to sort through when we're done. That's why I always have to laugh when someone says "they want $4,000 for eight hours of coverage - that's $500 an hour!" Ha, I wish! Did your Photographer give you an estimate on how long it would take. And did they at least give you a sneak peek by posting a few on their blog or something??
  12. My Son's first word was "ball" and he can spot a baseball, basketball, football, MLB logo, NFL logo, Padres team logo etc. from six miles away. Here is our photo from Fathers Day at Petco Park here in San Diego
  13. ps. fixed the link, hopefully everyone can see the photo now.

LOL, thank you for the correction. Hard to remember which was what, since I kept getting thrown out of each place by the very rude security people (I'll never take a vactation in DC after that trip). I don't live in Coronado, but 90% of the beach shoots that I do are at the Hotel Del Coronado. I spend half of my Summer there, usually. Although this year with the economy business is down and the Hotel Del is a ghost town compared to years past.

You might want to read about the San Diego lawsuit over the removal of the Mount Soledad Cross. It's been in court for years, and a couple of years ago they finally put it to a county wide vote - 51% required to get the cross to stay. The day before the vote some Judge says "no, I think it should be 67% instead" so they change the rules. The vote comes and 78% of San Diego county says "leave the cross". So the Judge says "well then, that vote was unconstitutional". Luckily the cross still stands....and the Lawyers continue to get richer. You can read a lot more detail about it here, if you need something to put you to sleep one night: Mount Soledad cross controversy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  16. There was just an article in the paper here about how many hundreds of millions of dollars this will bring to CA over the next three years - and most of it for wedding vendors. Good news for us Wedding Photographers. =)
  17. Only spent a minute or two on each of these, but if I tried to tell you everything that I did, it would take longer than it did just to do the editing. I will say one thing, the common thing here is that nobody is using their flash. Any time the background is brighter than the subject, you should always have your flash on. Even some of the little automatic cameras will meter the scene pretty well, expose for the background and add flash for the subject. Photoshop tip - try using the Shadow/Highlight Tool, it helps a lot for toning down real bright areas and/or lightening dark areas. For the blue chairs in the last photo, use the Saturation tool, select the blue channel, and turn the saturation all the way down. That will get rid of all of the blue in the photo.

Microsoft and Adobe have much better Lawyers than most Photographers do. Regarding posting your pro photos here, if you received a CD with the digital images on it along with a release, it should be just fine. If the Photographer is willing to let you take a CD and get whatever prints you want made at Walgreens, he's not going to be upset about you posting low res photos on a forum. Or at least he/she shouldn't be. And if they gave you the rights to them, you can do whatever you want as long as you're not profiting from them.
  19. Amen to that! Unfortunately, just about the only way to find out in advance if your Photographer is any good at this is to shoot an engagement session with him or her. I observed a "professional photographer" one day at a local park. He must have had some credentials, because he was shooting two Hooters girls in their "work clothes" shall we say. He was an older gentleman, and had the two girls posed on a rock. In the most monotone of voices he kept saying over and over again "one...two...three <click>....one...two...three <click> The girls couldn't have looked more bored. I'm sure it showed in the photos.
  20. I'm new here, so not sure if this has been done before or not. I'm just wondering if anyone wants to post a photo here for me to tinker with in Photoshop? Maybe a favorite from your wedding, or one that didn't come out quite right (too dark, noisy, etc). I just feel like playing around a bit. So if you want to post one photo I'll play with it a bit. If not, that's cool too. =) (Edited by TammyB, see below) ***PLEASE READ*** Just to set a rule in place on this thread. PLEASE do not post a professional picture taken from someone else that you want edited. If it's your photo and you are looking for advise that's one thing, but no one should be posting a picture that another photographer took. (IE a picture from your wedding, but you didn't like your photographer's edit)
  21. Huh, not sure why some people can see them and some can't. If you can't see them, just click on the link to our blog in my signature and you'll see all of them there. I was j/k about not being able to post here because the forum home page says "Hey Ladies, this forum is for you to talk about just about anything!" for this board.
  22. I'm curious - where do Brides want their DW Photographer to be from? - Do you want them to be someone who lives at the location? So if you're getting married in Cancun, you want them to be based in Cancun and familiar with the area etc. - Do you want them to be someone from your area? - Or do you not care where they are from, even if they're not from the destination or your own location? I'm just curious for a few reasons. First it would seem a little scary to hire somoene who you've never met, and don't have the opportunity to sit down with in person before your wedding day. Also because it can be difficult and tedious to view photos / place orders etc. after the wedding is over if you're 2,000 miles apart. If they are from your own town, you may be able to view the photos in their studio, making the ordering process much easier. So I'm just wondering what Brides think about this? Thanks for your input. =)

Absolutely, a Bride's happiness with her own photos is without a doubt the single most important thing - obviously. And if someone hires a Photographer solely based on price because they can't afford a better Photographer, then they simply can't afford it. No offense taken, but I wasn't putting anyone down. I'm just stating that based on the advancement of digital cameras and the accessability of those cameras, I think the bar has been lowered significantly when it comes to the overall quality of "professional" photography in general. That goes for weddings as well as portraits.
