  1. The WC sets everything up, she comes to the room to get the bride when it is time, and sends everyone down the aisle. I just asked my husband....and I guess she was there through the entire ceremony. After we walked back down the aisle and everything was set, she left. I don't remember seeing her. I guess she was the perfect wedding coordinator. Everything went smoothly, she stayed out of the way, and handled everything. I didn't get any questions thrown my way. They did handle all of the clean up....and now that I think about it, micaela did take our centerpiece for the ceremony over to the reception site on the beach. We had fans for our guests. We just had the moms bring those back to their rooms while we had pictures taken. Other than that, the Royal handled everything.
  2. LouLou7, I would not worry about your photographer. If they are staying at The Royal with you, how is the resort supposed to know if you hired someone or if you have a friend who has a really nice camera? Also, after your wedding is set up and your ceremony starts, the WC leaves and it is just the officiant, you, and your guests. Nobody will say anything to you. It will be fine.
  3. Our pictures can't be posted soon enough!!! They should be up by next week. She told us that we would have our photos in time for our AHR. That is September 20th. We wanted to be able to show off for all of our guests. All I can say is keep checking. That is what we keep doing. They will be on her website soon.
  4. We hired Elizabeth Medina for our photography. We were not pleased with the work of the resort photographer. We are funny about pictures though. We are HUGE picture people (we have over 3,000 pictures from our two weeks at the Royal and that does not include the professional pictures!) I know that there is a "no outside vendors" rule, but I don't know what exactly counts as an outside vendor I'm wondering if they are talking more about food, lounge furniture, dj, etc. It does not hurt to ask though. Micaela seems like she really wants to work with people and make them happy.
  5. Hey guys. We had 23 people at our wedding. Our wedding package said cake and champagne for 12. The resort gave us enough champagne for everyone to have without us even asking. The cake was the same one but I have to be honest with you...we took our piece to feed each other and that was it. Our reception on the beach included a dessert and by the time we were done eating everything, nobody wanted cake anyway. We got the traditional pictures out of it and we enjoyed our cake another night in our room in privacy. They froze it for us until we wanted it. No worries and no running around town to pick things up. You can check out our website for all of our nonprofessional pictures. kevinsarah.com - Home
  6. Hey girls! We initially planned our ceremony to be on the beach but we changed it to the gazebo. It is August after all, and 95 degrees outside. The sun and humidity is just to much to take. We are glad that we changed it...and I'm pretty sure that our guests were happy as well. For our reception on the beach, we were provided with tiki torches. There were receptions in the garden while we were here, but they didn't even compare to our reception on the beach. We wanted the breeze though because, again....it is August and very hot! If you have any questions, Please let me know. I'll be happy to help!
  7. Gracias to everyone for the well wishes! There will be plenty of pictures and a trip report when we get home. Today is the big day and Saturday all of our guests leave. Then we get an entire week just for us! Woo Hoo!! it is a good thing that we have a beautiful room and a beautiful view because I have a feeling we will be spending more time in our room after our guest leave!
  8. Hey everyone! We are at The Royal and loving it! Our wedding is tomorrow and I am ready! We talked to Micaela yesterday to get everything finalized. Things are running smoothly. We did have some issues getting a hold of her but I want to reassure everyone that once you get here, they really handle everything. I worried over nothing. Everything that we needed has been handled an no problems. If you have any questions, let me know and I will try to help.
  9. LESS THAN A WEEK!!!!! I can't wait to leave. It sure came up fast. Friday is our legal day and Saturday we get on the plane and head to beautiful Mexico! WOO HOO!
  10. It can take a long time to get a response from the WC at the Royal. We were a month out and couldn't get a hold of her. Kevin sent a semi-threatening email to the resort manager. She got back to us the next day. I wasn't trying to be a b***h but seriously, we were a month away and we needed answers! We had to do that again a week later. Now she is getting back to us more quickly but that is probably because we arrive on the 9th! She has no choice!
  11. You can do whatever you want for your ceremony. We have pretty much planned ours on our own. We have written our own vows and we are doing a sand ceremony. Kevin's brother is doing a reading while we are pouring the sand. It is nice that they allow for you to customize the ceremony!
  12. That totally sucks about your travel agent!! I've had my own issues with mine. Very similar actually. I just don't understand....how stupid do you have to be to get that job? We leave in 10 days. I can't wait!! We pretty much have everything ready to go. All I'm worried about now is getting waxed. I decided I did not want to shave every day for the two weeks that we are in Mexico. I am getting both legs and a brazillian.....yikes! I've never even had my eyebrows waxed! I'm more nervous about this than going skydiving in Mexico. Hopefully it will be worth it. Any suggestions on how to control the pain?
  13. I love the seashell bouquet. Isn't it heavy though? We bought a bunch of seashells for our AHR centerpieces and they were heavy!
  14. I just wanted to remind everyone to be careful about your court date for your legal ceremony. We were originally thinking about getting that part done sooner instead of the day before we leave for Mexico but we realized the hassle that could come with doing that. I didn't want to have to worry about getting a new license ans passport before we left. I know of someone who had gotten married and had gotten a hard time at the airport about her name change. They left for their honeymoon the day after they got married. They had a copy of their marriage license but it was not the one with the raised seal. To get that, you have to pay a fee and order it and it can take up to a week for you to get it. Customs eventually let them through, but not without a big pain in the ass and many people in line behind them giving them the evil eye!
  15. Hey Kelly! Our ceremony will be on the beach at 5pm and our reception will also be on the beach, at 7pm. The sun sets at 7:15 so we thought that would be perfect. We are using Elizabeth Medina to do our pictures. We booked our wedding and everything a year ago. Rules have changed now and they say 'no outside vendors'. Since we had already booked before this started, they are letting us use Elizabeth. I'm not sure what constitutes an outside vendor?? We decided to use a mariachi band for the reception on the beach, but not until just recently, so we just used the hotel to get that. As far as penalties go, I'm not sure how that works. Maybe they will let people bring in vendors as long as they are not losing so much money (I have a feeling this is why they started this rule.). I'll be posting a report when I return......I leave in 17 days!!!!
  16. I WAS TOTALLY RELIEVED! We had put a $1500.00 deposit down for Elizabeth Medina, which I think will be totally worth it, but I certainly didn't want to lose that deposit because of a stupid rule change. August 9th is coming up very quick. I remember when It was fall and it seemed so far away and now it is more like.....HOLY CRAP! I better start getting a list together so I don't forget anything. We are having a symbolic ceremony in Mexico. We are going to the courthouse at 8-8-08 and doing the legal thing. After the courthouse, we are going out to dinner with all the people who are leaving on Saturday with us (half of our guests are coming out Wednesday). We all decided to stay at a hotel by the airport that Friday night because they will let you leave your car there while you are gone and they will shuttle you to the airport for free. It ended up costing less than parking our car for all that time and it was much more convenient since our flight takes off at 7:00 am!
  17. I finally got word from the WC at the Royal and she is allowing us to bring in an outside photographer. Anything that we decided to have before the new rule started. I was so excited. We had our pre-Mexico party so everyone could meet (and a great excuse to have some fun). We handed out great gift bags to everyone with our logo everywhere. I think all of of plans have been set and we just have to relax until we leave on August 9th! That just doesn't seem like it could be right.....we must be forgetting something!
  18. Do all TA go to the same school that teaches them to be complete idiots?!?!? We had almost the exact same problem and we got the same damn excuses!! Well, the wholesaler.....well, the hotel!! Our TA also played this game where she avoided my mom and actually screened her calls for about three weeks. My mom's statement was $1000.00 to much! She is only going for 3 nights and her entire trip shouldn't be that much! I had to chew her out and got the stupid excuses. I would have probably been much nastier but my honey wouldn't let me. He is just to sweet for his own good. We finally got everything straightened out as well...THANK GOD!
  19. Oh Maura! You looked stunning! And what a beautiful Chicago backdrop! Congratulations. Now you just have to wait until you go to beautiful Mexico!
  20. hey there! i am getting married at The Royal in playa del carmen on august 14th! we are doing the legal ceremony at the courthouse on 8-8-08 and we leave the next day to fly to mexico! can't wait! we are not doing anything special for our courthouse ceremony because we figure that we will celebrate our anniversary on august 14th for years to come. the courthouse is just a formality to keep things simple...if there is such a thing! i should start posting pics. we had the cutest gift bags for our guests, which we handed out yesterday at our pre-mexico meet and greet. we also have very cute centerpieces for our AHR. i am so excited! it is coming up so quickly!
  21. I am getting married at The Royal on August14, 2008. We are trying to figure out what kind of music we want and we are having issues. We are having a mariachi band for our beach reception but for our ceremony, we were going to provide our own music. Does anyone know if they provide an ipod hookup or is it just a cd player? Once I get that answered, all that we have left to do is pick what songs we want.....that is what we are having a problem with. We don't want any of the standard wedding music. We are trying to come up with something different, something original. Does anyone have any suggestions? When I get back, I will post a trip report for all to read. Hopefully I will be of some help to everyone on the forums!
  22. Go with the beach wedding! If that is what you want, that is what you should do. I guess I don't understand why it is costing more money for you as your guest list grows. Were you planning on paying some of their travel expenses? I wouldn't count on everyone showing up either. We are getting married at The Royal in Playa Del Carmen on August 14, 2008. We initially had about 40 people who had put deposits down with our travel agent but we are now at 21 people....including us. Quite a change. You never know what will come up. We had guests that couldn't get out of work, had health issues, couldn't get anyone to watch the kids, and actually had a couple who got pregnant and had to change their plans. We are having an AHR so that we can celebrate with all of our friends that had to change their plans. The bottom line is, you need to do what makes you happy. You will never forget this day and you don't want to look back with regrets. Your guests will figure out what is best for them. You can't please everyone but you can please yourself!
  23. I am getting married at The Royal in Playa Del Carmen on August 14th. I can't believe that we leave in a month! We have seen so many beautiful pictures and read so many great reviews that our choice was easy. The cost was reasonable to fly from Detroit and it was an adults only resort, which was important to us. They do allow children for the day of the wedding if you need that, and their sister resort is right across the street. The sister resort is a family resort. Anyone who stays at The Royal is allowed to use all of the facilities at The Gran Porto and if people stay at the Gran Porto, they can pay for a day pass at the Royal if they wish. I'll be posting a trip report shortly after we return. We will be staying there for two glorious, relaxing weeks. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask and I will try my best to answer whatever I can. Good luck with your planning!
  24. Hey Shannon. My name is Sarah and my fiance is Kevin. We are getting married at The Royal on August 14, 2008. We initially started our contact with Paty. We contacted her by phone the first time and then went to email. That seemed to work well. Paty would usually take about a day and a half to get back to us but we are having issues getting a hold of Zulma. We just want to make sure and confirm that our wedding is still scheduled (I don't know if information was passed on in an orderly fashion or not). Hopefully we are still scheduled and there will be no problems. It has been a week now since we sent our last email to Zulma. Soon, we will call again. We decided to go with an outside photographer because we are big picture people. We have booked Elizabeth Medina. She is a little pricey but it looks like it will be worth it. I will be posting our pictures and a report as soon as we return. I hope your planning goes well and good luck getting your emails returned!
  25. Hey everyone! We are having a reception on the beach at 7 pm at The Royal and we are paying $50.00 per person. That gets you a plated meal, dance floor, and personal bartender. We initially did not plan on doing this but we decided it would be a nice surprise for our guests and that it would be worth it. You get a private spot on the beach until midnight.
