    I agree!!

On another note- what is a "RFC" that the resort has asked that the local photographers to provide? Is this something that just the local vendors have to provide?

Yes - if this is actually a Mexican Gov't policy - it will apply to all resorts.
I did send an email back to Valeria asking:
what exactly this $500 is for and why I need to pay it to EDR
What exactly this new policy entails
and exactly what I need to do to make sure I or my photographers won't be hassaled down there.

I will post her response when I get it.

    Hi Shannon,

Perfect, please remember they should present to the On site wedding coordinator the legal paperwork, provided by the Mexican Government in order to provide this services, is called in Spanish (RFC)

This is important since the Hotel has been sanctioned for not paying taxes for this outsider providers services.

    thanks.-

If any doubt arises, please, do not hesitate to contact me, I will be more than happy to assist you.

    Sincerely Yours,

    Valeria Martinez.

Do you know what exactly the legal paperwork that they have to present is?
  3. Thank-you so much for all of the responses everyone!

    That definitly helps!

From what I understand from everyone's post, is that my photographers (who are Canadian) should just check that they are doing business in Mexico, and at Immigration bring along a copy of our contract, their return tickets and an email from the resort saying they can come in.

I will also attempt to call the Mexican Embassy here to find out more info.

Technically, however, I'm not paying my photographers for their services. They are attempting to break into the destination wedding market and offered us a deal, where we pay for them to come down & their board, and they will shoot the wedding for free. This should mean, that this policy would not apply - but I have a feeling trying to explain this to everyone may just complicate things!!

pryzeless & Jen: I believe the resort knew I was bringing in photographers from outside of Mexico. So if your photographers are local - you should be just fine :)

  4. I have NO idea! I've sent an email off to the WC asking for more information - but thought I would be proactive to see if anyone has even heard of this as well.

From the email, it sounds like Karisma has already had their hands slapped for it - so it can't be that new of a government policy. So I am not impressed that they are springing this on us 1 month before the wedding.

  5. I am getting married at EDR next month, and I was just sent the email below.

    Email:

"The Mexican Government has implemented a new policy for foreigners

    working here in Mexico.

If your photographer is not a Mexican Citizen, and she's receiving payment

for her services, she must have a Mexican Government permission to work in

this Country. If they are professional photographers (With professional

    equipment, lenses, tripod's etc)

Karisma is charging a 500 usd fee to allow this services at the Hotel.

Please let me know the name of your photographer. In case you are brining

someone from Canada /US, if your photographer is a Mexican Citizen, we will

request for him / her to show the Hotel their working documents (in order to

    declare taxes)

I apologize for the inconviences this may cause you, unfortunately this are

new Hotel / Mexican Government policies, the hotel has been sanctioned for

permitting professional foreigner photograhers working at the Hotel, with no

    working permission from the Government."

    Has anyone heard about this?

I am not paying the infamous $500 photographer fee that Karisma charges for outside photographers. I got around it because I booked before this really became a policy and also because my photographers are staying for a week.

So my first inclination was that this is a way that karisma is trying to get me to pay it anyway. thoughts??

So, that's been paid and I thought the issue was over. I notified Monica to tell her that my photographer will be bringing two associates w/ her (one of whom is the videographer). At first, Monica indicated that I might have to pay ANOTHER $500 fee for the videographer (who is associated w/ my photographer, mind you), but then she let that drop. But now, she told me that since we will be counting them as our guests in our "free" wedding dinner at El Cocotal and having them at our mini-private party afterwards ($8.00/person), we also have to get day passes for all of them! So, if I'm understanding her correctly, she wants me to pay $500 for the fee (at least one $500 fee so far), $72.00 for each guest pass (3), and $24.00 for three people at the private party. Ugh!!! I sent her an email to clarify all of this, but I am fuming.....and feel kind of defeated at the same time........

That's pretty much horseshit....I would raise hell about that! What the hell is the $500 fee supposed to cover then?
  7. I agree with the point that alot of girls do things behind their parents back. I do believe the problem starts with the parents, but in honesty - I think the major problem is peer pressure, which in turns results from the general environment society has created for them - the Beyonce's of the world, the teen magazines showing what they think sexy is etc.

I also believe that another aspect of this is that kids are maturing at a younger age now. I was considered very young when I got my period at 12. Nowadays that is most definitly not uncommon - and the 'young' age is alot lower - like 9 or 10. This in turn obviously makes them want to be accepted by adults for a more mature person then what we were when we were their age.

Though - I am most definitly not giving kids the let off. I think today's younger generation still have alot to learn about respect.

  8. wowsers!! you were right - I think that is officially the longest review! But it was awesome - I read all of it and it was very helpful!!

I am very glad that in the end it all worked out and you enjoyed your wedding - but I'm sorry about some of the shit that happened along the road. Good for you though, for keeping it all in perspective and not letting it ruin your day.

Have you already posted pics? I would love to see them!!

thanks again for an awesome detailed review :)

However, there is a problem. he refuses to give the $2.75 price anymore. he's still giving us a discount, but he can only go as low as $3.25. I PRAY THIS IS OK WITH EVERYONE BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE TIME TO WAIT FOR EVERYONE TO OKAY IT! If it's not okay, please PM me immediately.

    Ok... that is all.
to be honest - even though it is super bad business practice on his part and a breach of contract to boot - whatever! the additional price is still much cheaper then what we would have to pay to get a replacement for what is missing!

    thanks for the update!

    Hope this helps xx
3 - 40 min sets? your kidding me!! I've never been to a wedding where the Dj just has a break! I wonder what happens when he is having a break!!
I didn't realize the cost was now up to $1500 and not even for the whole night! That's insane! I thought it was $1200 for the whole night - and even for that I thought it was expensive!

I'm going to try to enlist a friend to making sure good music is playing.
see that's what I thought I would do too - but FI insists that he knows I will be spend hours fiddling to get the best order of songs and then I would spend the whole reception fiddling with it and he would much rather get the DJ...I disagree with him (wink.gif) but thought I would humor him and find more info on using the DJ
  15. When I was going to have the reception on the beach - I was debating this question. I think dancing on the dance floor would be much better then on the sand (especially for the older generation who will be attending). However, I wonder if the dance floor would get slippery once sand started to get all over it when people track it on with their feet?

If you decide to get one - you may want to be careful about that.
