Riu Palace Riviera Maya --- Wedding Review

Recommended Posts

Hiya, I was wondering if you know how strict they are on the outside vendor for photography thing? I'm really not comfortable having the resort photographer do my pictures, so I'd like to bring in one of my own (unless yours are fantastic when you post them!). I'm thinking that if they are a guest, it shouldn't matter, but I don't know how that will work out.

They told me that if you bring an outside photographer, they have the be staying as a guest in the hotel. They have a contract with local photographers which is why it can be so difficult to bring an outside photographer in for just the day.

Hi!!

First of all congratulations!! I am also getting married at RPRM on August 2,2008.Thank you so much for this review..it has made me feel so much better.I also have a thousand questions... Did you have a welcome dinner? If you did, does it cost more? I loved your ideas about the maracas..totally stealing that!!! Also the welcome letter with an itinery on it. Did you print those up before you left? What time was your wedding and how much time did you have in between your ceremony and your dinner? I think that is it!! Once again, thank you for your review..it has really eased my mind!

Thank you. We did not have a welcome dinner but we did eat together as a big group a few times. They let us make these reservations more than the max 3 days in advance 'cause we were such a large group (31). I'm sure you could arrange to eat together the first day but I'd book this in advance via email.
I did print my letters before I left. I'm sure you could do it down there but it'd be a lot harder. My wedding was at 5 pm and it was still hot! We had 3 hours between our ceremony and dinner.

Hi:) Sorry but I'm not going to be posting my pics. I'm no photographer myself but I thought they were well done. We also got our prints and cd with JPEG photos after we left. The photog himself was professional and willing to work with us rather than tell us what to do. I even emailed him a month after the wedding for a photo I forgot to order and he's currently looking it up.
His name is Juan Carlos Magallon, unfortunately I can't remember his website. I'll PM you his email. Good luck.

One question for you Jenn where did you find the maracas for $1? We really wanted to do that as well and if we could buy them there it would be great. Ok two questions, do you know if we were to order tumblers (coffee mug style) would we be able to ship them to the resort, would they accept them? We thought this would be a good idea to give to the guest for their drinks for the week, both eco-friendly (not so much plastic use) as well as keep those frozen drinks cold longer :)

Anyhow -looking forward to any other info from brides that are getting married at the Palace.

Thanks again and congrats-
Jaime
Hi. I found the maracas in the little tourist town Playa del Carmen. Some vendors list them for up to $5 but they'll sell them to you for $1 if you're buying a bunch. As for the shipping, I'm really not sure. I'm sure that the resort would accept it for you but I'm not sure that it would even get there safe never mind be properly delivered to you by the resort. Good luck!

Dear Jenn,

Thank you very much for your review. I'm getting married there in November. I was planning to hold my reception at Chillis. Would you recomend the Botafogo better than Chillis?

I was so worried about my hair and make up. So knowing that the Spa worked out well for you make feel better! Thanks!

I am getting married there on October 4th and having my reception at Chillis. I like the fact that it is open to the beach and the food is supposed to be really good! For the spa, I am doing my hair and makeup myself... so I have no one else to blame if it turns out terrible... hopefully it won't!!! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
