  1. Hi Ladies! My fiancee and I just returned from EDR on Sunday and had a fantastic time (we went to the BDR to plan our April 2015 wedding). The weather was gorgeous, and it was originally supposed to rain but didn't. Make sure to take a sweater or a pashmina because it got a little chilly at night and in the early morning. Also, make sure to take some bug spray for night. I got at least four or five bites the last night we were there at an outdoor bar. @@kamelia054 - For activities, there were a bunch of people kayaking close to the beach which looked fun. The kayaks are provided by the lifeguard stand on the beach and there are only two or three so a big group couldn't do it all at once. We met a couple who saw some ocean life (fish and jelly fish mostly) so snorkeling would be fun too. They were doing the greenhouse tour a 9 am three times a week and I didn't get to do it but plan to do it during my wedding with our guests that want to join. @@murmel - the photo scavenger hunt is such a great idea!
  2. @@ChiTiff Wow that's so exciting! You're right we are wedding day twins! Are you having your ceremony on the beach or the sky deck? I wonder if we are doing the ceremony in the same spot. We just booked the pier for our reception and the wedding is on the beach. I thought it would be a random spot but the WC said it's at the beach gazebo. My FI and I are headed to the Brides Dress Rehearsal in November to plan the specifics. I don't think I'm going to do the memorable moments package because it's so expensive ($250 per table?), but I need to figure out the al la carte pricing for individual decorations. This is supposed to be less expensive than having a local wedding, but at this rate who knows. I'll probably bring some decorations from home but my wedding contract said they would charge me $5 per person to set up my decorations. I've read some threads and it seems better to deal with that price once we get there in cash. Anyway I'm sure we will have a lot to discuss/compare notes on in the upcoming months!
  3. @@kmk2016 thanks for your response! We have actually worked out the BDR. I guess the not giving a $500 credit is a new policy but we are still going to attend in November to check everything out. By then it will be too late to back out so I hope we love it. I spoke with my TA again and we aren't doing a room block because we would have to pick the specific room and dates for the block and our guests wouldn't be able to book anything else. We are sending our save the dates now and will urge everyone to put down a deposit right away (for our April wedding). Not ideal but at least they can make their own decisions for the travel dates. Also, it sounds like the ocean front room we are supposed to stay in for the "free" ceremony isn't offered by the TA's tour operator (fun jet) so we are going to stay in a different room, but we are working this out too. Kinda strange because the oceanfront suite is available on the EDR website. The WC recommend our TA, but I haven't heard that they are giving us any deals other than some extra money off each room booked because of a fun jet promotions. We will see what happens. I'm just glad my FI still wants to do our wedding there.
  4. @@AllieH thanks for your thoughts on the break! Your wedding thread is fantastic and inspiring. I think i will have to DIY some of the decorations. Now I'm thinking we should have a reception since all of the guests are paying to come down for us. I think we could do the food for 60 guests for $3K and then the bar is included with the food for 3 hours. I'm thinking about a 5 pm wedding and 6-10 pm reception, but I haven't seen any posts with the ceremony that late. Anyone have thoughts on a 5pm April ceremony? When I googled the sunset info I found conflicting info but i think the sun will set around 7:15 pm.
  5. Hi Ladies! This thread is great! I’ve already booked my wedding date for April 2015, but haven’t planned anything so am going to the BDR in November. I just found out today that they wouldn’t let me have the $500 credit because the wedding is already booked. Has anyone fought this? The WC said this is a new policy. Did you guys talk about to the on-site WC about the decorations and stuff during the BDR for lesser pricing (like is it really worth us going to)? I really don’t want to pay the $5/person that is listed on my contact to bring in outside decorations especially if we have a lot of guests. Also, it’s crazy that the Wi-Fi is $75 per person (for the week). I’ve never stayed at a resort that charged for Wi-Fi. Is it pretty reliable or spotty? Have you guys shared one log in with all of the wedding party? In the summer posts I read that some of the brides received a free 2-hour cocktail party? I haven’t heard of anything like that. My FI and I and our guests are staying at EDR while the actual wedding is at the new part of the resort, Generations Riviera Maya (FI’s brother’s have kids). Maybe that’s why? Any details I should ask about? My TA just told us that the 7-night premium room we have to book (ocean front junior suite) isn’t available so we are going to have to book a tier up from that. Has anyone else had this problem? Honestly after all this I’m starting to have second thoughts and it’s only the beginning! Thanks for your comments!
  6. @@Christinagiovanni thanks so much for the info! That makes me feel better about the beach. I can't wait to get down there for the bride's dress rehearsal. We might not end up doing the break. I just can't decide what would be best and maybe the cost will be less than we think once we start planning things out. Once we get a better idea of the number of attendees that will help too.
  7. Hi Ladies! Congrats on your weddings! My fiancé and I have decided to have our wedding at Generations Riviera Maya April 25, 2015. I just mailed in the forms. I feel like I'm coming in late to the game so it was nice to read this thread. We aren't going to a Bride's Dress Rehearsal until November so we probably won’t plan the details until then. @girlinthecity97 and @rtscent how did you get the room blocks at set rates? Was it through your TA or through the hotel? We are being a little unconventional and decided to have the ceremony (maybe at 4ish) and then a break so our guests can go to any restaurant to eat dinner and then come back to the reception for snacks, desert and dancing from 8 to 11ish. I asked two of my good friends and they think it's fine. We are just trying to keep the costs down and now won't have to decorate as much. I’m thinking the beach for the ceremony and the pier for the reception but am not really sure how that’s all going to work out especially not seeing it in person. The pictures of the beach with all of the sandbags and blocks in the ocean aren’t great, but our TA has reassured us that it won’t be too bad. What do you guys think about the beach ceremony location there?
