Meagan good luck on your visit. We're getting married at the Westin in February 2010. We chose to get married on the terrace near the arricefes restaurant. My 89 year old grandma and her 92 year old friend will be there so we decided maybe directly on the beach wouldn't be a good idea but I think La Playa is so pretty. I'd love to hear more about your visit and see pictures.

Did everyone else have written into their contracts at the Westin that the full cost of the room would be charged at the time the reservation is made? I'm trying to figure out how to let my guests know that if they stay at the Westin under our block that they will have to pay for their room upfront. It's easy to tell family that but how do I let friends know this? Did anyone have friends that had an issue with that? How did you let everyone know?

PKBride and Meg&Shay - We are scheduled to leave tomorrow for our site visit to Cabo but I am freaking out b/c of the Hurricane which is supposed to hit the area late this evening. I'm not sure if we will even go, if flights will be cancelled, or if the weather passes, how bad the damage will be in the area. I will most definitely report back if we can make the trip, but at this moment it isn't looking good.

We had a great time in Cabo during our site visit! The weather was great, although really warm, and the Westin treated us very well. We were upgraded to a really nice suite and they threw in the Royal Beach club breakfast and cocktails/appetizers every day at no additional cost. We were able to meet with some vendors in person and have a tasting of the food (which was very good - I was impressed).

We decided on definitely having the reception at La Playa. Arrecifes is beautiful but I just didn't want to be stressed out about the $10,000 food and beverage minimum. Plus, I also want to be closer to the water.

I don't have a WC yet since we haven't signed our contract (hopefully this week) so I have been working with Maira, the sales/conference manager. I did get a chance to meet Juan briefly since there was a wedding there during our visit and he seems very nice. We spoke to a couple of the guests that were there for the wedding and they said he was extremely accomodating.

Let me know if there are other details you want. I am still trying to figure out a rehearsal dinner location...

Hey Westin girls, I just wanted to pop my head in and say hello! It's been awhile since I've been on this thread since I got married at the Westin in August of 2008, but I'm still around to answer questions or provide any photos of the grounds/info about the hotel, restaurants etc etc. Just as a reminder, my ceremony was on the beach outside of La Playa, my cocktail hour was on the La Playa terrace, and my reception (dinner) was at La Playa with our DJ and dancing on the La Playa terrace. We also had a separate small ceremony at the Catholic church in San Jose del Cabo if you have any questions about that, too.

Hi Maegan, sounds like your wedding will be just like mine :) I had white table linens with navy blue napkins.

I did not have a groom's or rehearsal dinner, but we did have a welcome dinner offsite for family & very close friends who were in town 2 days before our wedding. I didn't do any of the planning for it as it was a surprise gesture from my husband's aunts & uncles, but it was held at La Tropicana in downtown San Jose del Cabo right off the zocalo. I'd be happy to get you more info if you'd like. We had such a blast and the food was really fabulous–our family did a prearranged fixed price menu with 3 courses (soup or salad to start, arrachera or some kind of white fish for the entree, and two choices for dessert). They had a live band and our party rented out the 2nd floor of the restaurant.

How did you transport everyone there?
we didn't -- some of our guests had rented cars and so they just loaded up all the rental cars on their own and everyone else took the van taxis.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
