Day Trips Near Playa Del Carmen

Recommended Posts

Hello!

My wedding at Sandos Playacar is just 10 days away! I can't wait! I also can't wait to come back here after the trip and let everyone know how it went!

Right now we are trying to figure out what to do with our guests the day after the wedding. We are staying at an all inclusive, so our guests will want to spend most of their time relaxing at the resort, but we wanted to treat them to a fun activity in addition as a thank you for coming all the way to Mexico for us. There are about 18 of us, so it is not a huge group.

We had originally thought maybe a tour of the ruins or snorkeling (or both, but decided against adding in too many trips). After speaking with some of our guests it seems like they are more interested in zip lining type adventures, so I thought XPLOR might be fun because it is very close by, and while it is more pricey it seems like everyone would be able to find something to do.

Does anyone have experience booking a large group to XPLOR? Do you think it would be best to try to organize through the resort, through XPLOR directly or a third party?

Are there other day trips locations near bye that might be fun (I would like something with both ziplining and snorkeling if possible, but haven't found anything close-Xel-Ha would be awesome but I think it is just too far, but my fiance and I might go there on our own).

Also, it seems like you are supposed to get there right at 9am. Do you think it would be a waste if we showed up later? Has anyone participated in XPLOR FUEGO? Is it more fun at night? I have too many questions! Any advice would be appreciated!!!

@goldammerpayne

you dont necessarily  have to opt for Xplor, there are tons of options for you here with both snorkeling and zip-lining.

I would look at local tour guides. I am sure they can give more options to choose from. here one you can email them to find out options they offer you. then take it from there.

My friends went to Xplor Fuego a few days ago.  It's a bit cheaper than Xplor and a better experience with everything lit up with fire.  Starts at 3:30 and they came back at about 11pm.  The place closes at midnight.  They told us that the dinner was way better than the food at our resort (Riu Palace Peninsula).  They loved the ribs.

I don't know if the group got a good deal since they booked the day of the excursion.  If you book online,  it's cheaper.

Thanks everyone! We decided to go with Xplor Fuego for a few reasons...

1- it is very close to our resort (Sandos Playacar), a 15 minute ride so there isn't a lot of time in the car.

2- there are four different activities so people have options

3-fuego because then we get to sleep in and don't miss a day on the ocean. Also I think 9-5 is too long for me too hang at an amusement park, and it gets hot in the sun.

I'm very excited, now I am trying to decide what my fiancé and I will be doing in Tulum and Puerto Morelos. We leave Wednesday!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
