Cost For Guests

this is totally the hard part! We wanted to keep it at $1500 for guests but ended up at $1700. A few people have said they can't afford to go, but you can't please everyone, so that's ok with us. Even if you have a wedding at home some people might not be able to make it. It' just the way things go.

I'd say find a travel agent and let her do most of the research. We had a list of things we wanted, that and our budget kind of limited our resorts and then we made a decision from there, but then we were flexible on the date. The travel agent actually came up with two resorts and we picked one. You will seriously go insane trying to tackle this whole research on your own.

Like some of the other girls have mentioned, Jamaica can be a bit more on the pricy side but it doesn't mean you can't find anything. It's just a matter of finding out whether what you get for your budget is what you want and if not what is going to give (either you have to raise the budget, or settle for a hotel that might not have everything you want, or switch to a different destination).

It really depends where you are flying from and where you are going and when. Mexico is cheaper than Dominican. Our TA found us the best rates in April. We got $1550 for Now Jade (5 star Riviera Maya) in April 2016 from Edmonton and Calgary. Our Toronto prices are around 1200. If you are still looking you can give my TA a try, she was able to have quotes for us within about 15-30 minutes. mbaugh@@baconkotravels.com

this seems really high for Now Jade. I'm surprised. Definitely shop around and maybe play around with different dates if that's the hotel you want :)

I must have gotten over 100 quotes from different travel agents for different destinations in Mexico and in Cuba. Cuba ended up being the cheapest (under 1500$) but we decided we didn't want to go there because of the bad reviews on the food. We ended up going with the Riu Santa Fe in Cabo Jan 28-Feb 4th 2016 and our guests are paying 1563$ from Vancouver and about 1300$ from Toronto. Cost was super important to us too. We had a maximum budget of 1500$ pp and only went over but a bit. It can be done! It is tougher though if you want to go during peak season like we did. Good luck!

@@Victoriabride - It's cheaper from Toronto to Cabo than from Vancouver to Cabo? We just get screwed on the West Coast, don't we?

I think it depends where in Mexican the Toronto passenger is flying from.

For our wedding people flew out of Calgary and Toronto to Cancun, and the Toronto flight was shorter.  We both left at 8am local time and they arrived 1 hour, if not a bit more, before us Mexican time.

We are going to Cabo and it appears that Vancouver is a shorter flight than Toronto, so I don't get why TO would be so much cheaper? Doesn't make much sense to me! We live on Vancouver Island so we also have to mess around with the ferries which is a pain as it adds more cost and travel time! I am still grateful at the prices we were able to find considering  how high all the other quotes were. I attended my cousins wedding in PV at a 5 star resort in 2010 and we paid 1200 pp. The prices seems to go up every year.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
