Are Engagement Pictures Really Necessary?

Recommended Posts

@@calgarybride2015 I think it's great that you found someone with such good prices! It's too late for us now but that would have been nice. My Fiance hates taking pictures so we don't have that many, only when we go on vacation. The one I have as my profile picture is actually from someone else's wedding and we didn't even know they were taking it haha, we were just dancing :)

Thankfully my fiance doesn't.   This guy we found has openings in September so we lucked out. I want the pictures by October for our pre-travel letter I am mailing out around Halloween.    I am debating early or late September at this point.

This is who we chose www.gathcityphotography.com

His work looks nice, and again, price point was huge! so it's this or nothing! lol!

I agree that this is something that isn't necessary but it is nice to have - especially if you just don't have many nice pics together. My fiancé proposed during what I thought was a regular photo session in Dominican Republic - so those are our engagement photos. This was great since the emotion was real and it was a surprise. Had this done been done this way, I most likely wouldn't go out of my way to get engagement photos taken with having to pay for a wedding!

So remember the gym friend I mentioned earlier who I just couldn't afford? Well, I booked the other one this evening and went FB snooping to see if he had a page, etc.  Well who is his mutual friend on FB? HER!!! OMG!!! I feel bad enough I am not using her and now they are friends.

Flip side makes me feel more confident with my choice and that he isn't going to run with our money, but wow! small world!

  • 5 weeks later...

I went for photos last night!    Had to change the date due to the kids schedule -- it spitted some, but the rain never came and it was pretty great!  We did them at Confederation Park (Calgary brides).   He was great to work with, and after the initial embarrassment we really got into it.   We did a mix of us, family, and kids. He was great.   I have to assume from what he showed us the pictures will be great. I will post a few in a couple weeks when I get them :)  Good practice for wedding shots.

If we had the money and liked our weights we would have done some but we decided against them because the fiancée hates pics and we didn't want to spend the extra cash and we also were planning to lose a lot of weight before our wedding so we didn't feel comfortable taking engagement pics at our weights at the time. I would've liked them had none of these factors played a role lol.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
