Are Engagement Pictures Really Necessary?

Recommended Posts

We did engagement photos, as you may be able to tell by my oh so Canadian cheesy profile picture. In case anyone's wondering, the matching plaid was meant as a joke, I swear haha! We always end up accidentally matching, so we had to do a picture like that! :P

We were also lucky to have a photographer friend that did it in exchange for a high five and some jewelry I made for his girlfriend. We've used them for our save the dates and website. I would definitely agree though, especially if you won't use them, to save your money for where it counts, the big day! Happy planning! :)

We didn't do any. But I think they are a good idea if it is going to be the same photographer as the wedding, so that you can see how they work with you before the bid day.  But since we are using a photographer in cancun we thought it was pointless to pay for another one here in the states for the STDs.

We just had one of our parents take some photos of us for the save the dates and called it good for the engagement photos.

So after thinking we didn't need them, I ended up booking our photographer in Mexico to do an engagement shoot when we're there next month for our site visit! I asked to do them somewhere different than where our wedding shots will be - like a small fishing village or near some ruins. Figured it'd be nice to have those shots and that way we can work with the photographer before our wedding

@@tygrrlily that's what we did. Went on our site visit to check out our resort and had our photographer take engagement pictures. We loved our pictures and got to work with our photographer beforehand which was great. You're going to have fun!

We decided not to do engagement pictures. Do what feels right ladies! We have done many professional shoots but ended up choosing a picture of us one vacation at the resort we are getting married at. Went better with the theme and I thought at the time traditional engagement pictures would have been too formal for our destination wedding!

I think it's awesome if you get the opportunity to work with the photographer that will take your wedding pictures. Then you know how they work and you get comfortable by the time the big day rolls around. Some people have also gotten really sweet deals (I'm actually kind of jealous haha). I'm a little scared that i'm going to look awful in all my pictures hahah, even though I've never seen a bride that looks awful. Just all these silly fears.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
