Hello Brides!!

I'm in need of some help and advice. About 3 months ago I had picked Majestic to be the place to get married then started hearing that some people get really sick after being there for 1 or 2 days. I know you shouldn't drink any of the water but should that impact me and my fiance wanting to go there to get married with all our family and friends? Second, what is the difference between the Colonial and Elegance sides? Any additional wedding advice or suggestions would be really helpful for this resort.

Thanks  :)

Hi there,

I stayed at the Colonial from November 30-December 7 2013 for my best friend's wedding (as MOH). We were a group of 43 and not a single person got sick.

From what we saw (we went walking around the Elegance side a few times.....), the lobby is larger and it is a slightly nicer hotel (very slightly- we noticed same lights and layout etc). It was also VERY quiet compared to our side so depending on the group I would take that into consideration. I can't confirm anything that I've said as I've never actually stayed on the a Elegance side, but I'm not sure if I would spend the extra money to be there. We had a FANTASTIC time!

Let me know if you have any questions :)

Just so you know... Most of the group didn't do any prevention (some took Dukoral but for the most part not). A large part of our group were partiers so we were out drinking/eating at all hours of the night at different restaurants. The only person who got sick while we were there was my boyfriend-although it was self induced.......

I'm usually the first person to get some sort of sickness while down south but this is the first trip I've taken where I did no prevention and actually experimented and tried all of the food and was fine. Just like anywhere in the Carribean it is not safe to drink the tap water but all of their food is prepared with bottled water (as well as their ice cubes) so there is no danger there.

I'm getting married at Majestic Colonial in May.  I think your safe with either or but I believe Elegance is 18 and over so if you have any children attending they would have to stay on the colonial side.  I wouldn't worry too much about ppl getting sick I think for the most part its self inflicted anyway.  There's actually two really great groups on facebook for brides you should join I've gotten so much great info one is called Majestic Colonial Brides!! and the other is Majestic Elegance Brides

We got married at Majestic Elegance Nov 26, 2013 and were there from nov 23-30. We had 52 total guests, and no one got sick...or at least not to blame solely on food/water.

Like the other person who replied said, there aren't a lot of differences. Elegance I believe is 4 years old, and Colonial is about 8. From my understanding, they basically took everything that they liked about Colonial, and replicated it into Elegance, making improvements were needed. They share the disco (I think), and the casino is on the Colonial side, but accessible to both sides guests.

**The Elegance side does allow children, and they can use the kids area which is also on Colonial side. Just don't choose the Elegance Club or Colonial club**

I've stayed at the Majestic twice, and have not been sick.  There were some people during the two separate trips that got sick, and they were all self-induced.  A few of my friends had been on the Greco diet, and after two days of being down south got very, very sick, however it was such a shock to their systems to have alcohol and fried foods again.  All in what you choose to eat!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
