Timmie and Dan's Dreams Puerto Aventuras May 2013 wedding

Recommended Posts

I am currently planning my May wedding in the Riviera Maya and thought I would share some of the projects I am working on.  I am very thankful for all the inspiration I have gotten on these boards so hopefully I can give some back!  I will post pictures and details as I work along.  Any questions feel free to ask!

Resort

The resort selection was very difficult and took a rather long time.  At first I did not think Mexico would be the location, but after getting lots of prices back it seemed to be the best bang for our buck.  We wanted to keep costs down for our guests.  We finally decided on Dreams Puerto Aventuras and are very happy so far.  The wedding coordinator that I have been corresponding with, Jacki Muir, is excellent.  She replies very quickly to all or our emails.  We like that this resort is in a gated community, some people had concerns about safety.

The Dress

We got all of our dresses at David's Bridal in Mississauga.  I dealt with a few sales people there and was happy with everyone.  They told me my dress would take 10 weeks and it took about 8, and the bridesmaids only took about 4 even though they said 14.  I was very happy with the experience!

I am adding a purple sash.

Sorry the photo is sideways, can't figure out why...

The girls will not have the huge flower :)  They are getting the dresses hemmed to their knees so it's not so hot.

Hello!

We are planning on having the ceremony in the gazebo - we thought having cover from the sun would be best.  We aren't sure about the reception, we originally like El Patio but have read that it gets quite hot and there is no AC.  I read a review from another May bride that the beach was nice and cool in the evening so we may have the reception on the beach. I will let you know what we go with, and how it works out!  We are having our ceremony at 5pm.  This was the time recommended to us and we didn't really think about it too much.  I'm just hoping we have time to do photos after, since I am not sure I want the groom to see me before the ceremony.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going for the wedding at 4pm...just cuz in January I looked up that the sunsets at 5:30..so just gives enough time for photos. Update me on your reception venue! I'm really trying to get a good idea of which one to go with :)

I finally got my information packages out!  4 weeks to go...

Included in the package is an info sheet about the resort that I printed off their website, a packing list that I got at Chapters/Indigo, an information booklet, and luggage tags.  The info booklet has a welcome message, list of group activities we are having, more notes about the resort, local attractions, some unique items they might want to pack, travel notes about the airline and Mexico, and a list of Spanish phrases.  I had a logo made up by Niki at STHBlue, I found on etsy - http://www.etsy.com/shop/sthblue?ref=seller_info.

I made the luggage tags from fabric that I purchased at Ikea for the beach bags I am sewing (welcome package).  I included the local address of the resort in the tag.

Hi

Would you still have the wedding co-ordinators email?  Our travel agent is saying arriving on a Wed is good enough for a wedding on a Monday.  I think there needs to be more days to  qualify for the 4 day arrival period and get everything done.  I assume you did a marriage ceremony with the Judge that is legal in Mexico and then in the US.

How far ahead did you arrive  4 full days?  Thanks for any input

and if you have any suggestions comments... wedding is on for Jan. 13 2014

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
