Wedding in Dominican Republic - What`s the best city? Resort?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

My fiance and I  have decided to have our wedding in the Caribben (half way from the US - his family - half way from Brazil - my family). We thought about lots of locations, Aruba, Riviera Maya (Mexico), Jamaica, etc...Taking in consideration the resorts prices, the Dominican has the best deal. Does someone can recommened a great resort to stay and that have a nice wedding package?

Also, I`ve heard that locations as Punta Cana, Puerto Plata are not in the Caribbean ocean and the beaches are not that pretty. Is that true?

Thanks :)

Hi there! As a native Dominican I can tell you that the place to be right now is Punta Cana. There are resorts in La Romana and Puerto Plata, but these have been around longer so they tend to be smaller and not as modern. There are two sides in Punta Cana. The Atlantic side, and the Caribbean side. Dreams Punta Cana which is popular is on the Atlantic side. I visited twice and the waters tend to be greener with more seaweed, and choppier. I decided to have my wedding at Majestic Elegance since its on the caribbean side, with clearer bluer waters. The resort is made mostly of deep mahogany wood and marble which a lot elegance to it. The prices are great, and they are known for having gorgeous weddings. I may be biased because I'm getting married there, but it truly is a beauty of a resort. The best thing is that its sister resort Majestic Colonial which is a little more family oriented and older is right next door. So if some can't stay at the Elegance, they can just stay at the Colonial. They even share a night club. Well if you have any questions feel free to ask! :)

Thank you! That helped a lot...

Planning a wedding is so much hard. Specially because I`m from Brazil and my fiance is from America. So we will do our wedding ceremony in the middle for both families. As we`ll be married for a while before the ceremony we just want to do something symbolic with family and close friends and do not spend much.

Taking in consideration price and quality (according to the reviews I`ve heard) I thought the Majestic (both Colonial and Elagance) the best, so I think we will pick this resort.

We will try to book 15 rooms so we can get the reception for free at Majestic resort. My fiance thinks totally crazy about how much an All Inclusive resort charges for reception, open bar considering that is an All Inclusive Resort. I guess all brides who plan an wedding in an all inclusive resort thinks the same. For this reason we are considering to do the reception at another place, maybe at JellyFish (I felt in love about this place, but my fiance didn`t feel the same. He thought the price x food is too crazy so don`t know if will work out. He said if i really do want to there its going to be for me....and for this reason I`m also considering doing the reception at La Barcaza boat, which he thought neat.

Have you heard about the La Barcaza?

I think if you do a semi private reception, it is free up to 60 people. They mean semi private because you get to have a sit down dinner reception in one of their restaurants which they have a section reserved for you. You can't have dancing or music but that can be an option for you. I have heard of La Bazarca boat and I LOVE IT. The only reason why I didn't choose it is because i'm expecting too many guests (80+). There's a lot of great information and tips there.

Thanks Tiny...

I`m changing plans about Majestic because I have heard they charge $ 300 for any service I bring to the hotel (like photographer/ someone to make the wedding video, hairdresser) That sux and I don`t want to cover this fee for each service...I want to save as much as possible.

Perhaps do you know any resort that don`t charge this fee in case you want to have hire your service?

Maybe some one better will comment, but of all the resorts I researched they all charged vendor fee's. Diego with corresfilms does really good videos, he is their preferred vendor, so no fee. Also, there are better photogs you can get. Like Jamie Dimitry, Phil Steingard, and Michael Steingard.. They all stay at the resort while in PC and dont get charged a fee. Just a thought.. But if I happen to see any that don't charge, I'll keep you in mind. :o)

MissBubbles205 is right. As far as I know almost all resorts charge an outside fee for vendors. Like she said CoresFilms does videography and since they're in house they won't charge a fee. Also, if you go with their photographers which I think is Tropical Pictures, there's also no fee. Try looking up their photos so that you can get an idea of their style. I know of other resorts that charge $1000 for outside vendors like Melia Caribe. I think that from all of the resorts out their, Majestic might be one of the ones that charge the least.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
