Hi everyone!

I am new to this website and I am getting married next april in the mayan riviera, we have narrowed it down to two resorts... The Ocean Turquesa and the Bahia principe akumal. I have read many reviews and of course both have good and bad feedback, like any resort. The bahia seems a bit big for my liking but my TA recommended it over the Turquesa, although i had a friend recommend the Turquesa, so my questions to all you brides out there, especially anyone who has been or ever better had their weddings at either of their resorts... any input good or bad would be GREATLY appreciated!!! we need to make our decision asap, to put our deposit down to save the prices weve been given!

Thanks so much in advance!:) Kylie

I stayed at the Bahia Coba in 07 and the Ocean Turquesa in 08, loved both resorts.  Here are my thoughts on both:

Gran Bahia Property

Very Large

Long Beach, but lots of coral so sand is rough, no other resorts close by

Long Drive to and from the airport

Good Food, but had to make reservations

Great Nightly Entertainment - 3 theatres on the property so if you don't like the show at the Coba, go to Tulum or Akumal

Very easy to get to the highway to catch a collectivo

Rooms in the Coba section were nice, loved that the mini bar had snacks such as chocolate bars, nuts and chips

Lots of pools to choose from

Ocean Turquesa

Close to the airport, about a 20 minute drive if I remember correctly

Loved that as soon as you entered the lobby you could see the ocean

Nice rooms, more modern than the Coba

Food was good, don't think reservations were necessary at the time, but I understand this may have changed

No annoying plastic bracelets for the week

Very small theatre, but they did have an excellent circus show when we were there

Nice beach, long could walk a distance but there are other properties next door

Very long walk from the resort to the highway so cabs are necessary to leave the resort

Hope this helps in making your decision.

Hi Kylie! Congratulations and welcome to the forums! There are tones of good ideas on here and lots of helpful brides and vendors.

Feel free to contact people for advice or any questions you have to help you plan your day.

I can tell you from a vendor perspective... the BHP does not allow any outside vendors. So if you plan on hiring an external photographer for your wedding... you will not be allowed to there.

I was recently at Ocean Turquesa and posted these images: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.497546574486.273546.18683524486&type=3

Regards and warmest wishes!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
