Suggestions on hair/makeup services in Varadero?

Hi all --

I'm getting married at the RIU Varadero on March 21, 2012, and have run into a slight issue when it comes to hair/makeup for myself and my wedding party on the day of the wedding.

From what I've heard from other RIU brides, the resort has very, very limited salon resources, and I've been recommended by a number of different people not to use the RIU hairdresser. Since I have a large wedding party looking to get at least their hair done (including bmaids, a junior bridesmaid and a groom's attendant) I'm a little concerned about all of us just trying to do our own/each others.

With that in mind, I'm now looking into potentially travelling to another, nearby resort the morning of the wedding -- our ceremony isn't until 4 p.m. -- buying day passes and having our hair and makeup done there.

So I'm soliciting suggestions for any Varadero resorts -- preferably as close to the RIU as possible -- that have good beauty services? As mentioned, it's more the hair that's the issue -- I think we should be able to handle our makeup on our own.

Thanks so much in advance for any ideas you might have!

I have heard the same thing about the Riu hairdresser and I am also getting married there on Mar 14 but apparently Iberostar Laguna Azul hairdresser does a decent job and if I remember correctly that resort is right next door to ours so it might just be a short walk on the beach and you would be there.  The only thing is they apparently do a lot of weddings so booking in advance is a definite. Hope this helps otherwise I'm bringing down lots of bobbie pins and hairspray and intend to leave it with her so it may help her with future brides.  Oh and I plan on only having her do the curls in my hair and then having one of my bridesmaid style it for me!

I just had my wedding in Varadero and me and my girls got our hair done at Blau Varadero where we were staying. Yoanny the hairdresser was awesome! He did an amazing job.

While we were taking pictures near our venue, I did notice a public hair salon though. Nothing fancy but it might be worth looking into. I don't remember exactly what street it is on but its somewhere between 35 and 45th street and it has Peluqueria written on the windows.

I'm getting married at the Blau Varadero on November 7, 2012, and I'm not too concerned about my hair, as it's short, and all my girls are very hair-talented. But I'm wondering about make-up?? Has anyone had their make-up done at this resort? If so, what was the outcome/thoughts?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
