Engagement Party Questions

Recommended Posts

Hey Ladies,

Please help! We are having a small wedding in Cabo and a PARTY when we get back to Cleveland. My family is about 4 hours away, and they would like to have the engagement party there. Who do we invite - knowing many would have to travel 4 hourshuh.gif

Honestly, I don't know! :-)

If those same people are all travelling for the wedding as well, then it might be a lot for them to do, you know? But if this is a different group of people who won't being doing the wedding related travelling, then they might not mind sneaking away for a couple days?

IMO, I wouldn't want to ask too many people to travel 4 hours for a party. Did your parents say who they were wanting to have there?

This is a tricky one! Good luck!

We only invited our wedding party and Matt's family (they live here in CA) for our engagement party. I felt guilty about the party... didn't want FMIL to spend allot of money and def. didn't want presents! We ended up eating Costco food (meat platter/veggies) and played poker. It was allot of fun but def. low key.

Do you have friends or family close to the person hosting the party? I always felt you shouldn't invite people that won't be invited to the wedding, but I guess with a destination wedding, anything goes.

Maybe you could suggest them taking you to a nice dinner to celebrate instead?

We had an engagement party this summer so I did a little research on the etiquette. A number of articles I saw said people can have multiple engagement parties- you might be given one by friends, your parents, or host one yourselves- so the invite list is up to you.

We invited only local friends/family who were also going to be invited to the wedding but our main intention was to have our families meet since the only other time has been at my FI's father's wake. We didn't want to go from that to by the pool in Mexico.

IMHO, I would skip the far away family/friends and keep it to people close by since it's just an engagement party. Plus, if it's obvious that people won't be able to attend it could be perceived that you are looking for gifts even though they aren't customary at an engagement party. We were shocked at how many gifts we got.

Good luck and have a great time!

Can you kindly suggest having the party near you so that more people can come? Your family is probably more likely to travel for the occasion.

Nice siggy pic by the way! I love that bar, they'll pour your beer into a cup so you can walk around and shop.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
