Travel Agent Question

Hi Everyone,

I'm fairly new to this board which is very helpful - just lots of info that I'm still trying to read up on. I have a few questions in the meantime. I have contacted two travel agents a few weeks ago requesting pricing information for two resorts that I am debating on getting married at (one is in Los Cabos, Barcelo Palace Deluxe and the other is in Punta Cana, NH Real Arena). I also sent an email to the resorts asking for info and haven't heard from anyonesad.gif Is this normal - it's been more then 2 weeks... If I'm from Canada do I have to use a Canadian travel agent? If so, can anyone recommend someone good/responsive?

Thanks!

I live in American, but my travel agents are great at getting back with me, BUT the hotels are terrible at it...................Some resorts in Riveria Maya just simply will NOT answer me at all, so i figure not a good place to go, made my decision for me.. :).......Other hotels have taken just a few days to get back to me......

I have learned with ALOT of research that most travel agents know next to nothing about getting married in mexico.......i have learned more on my own and this site and others to figure that out.  So far I am getting married at Sandos Playacar Riveria Maya on May5, 2011, unless my agent can pull a rabbit out and get me the Grand Pallidim, which I wanted first.

Iberostar, Sandos, Palladium had great wedding coordinators that let me know if my date was available (Riveria Maya)

I am not saying ALL travel agents have difficulties with weddings my Mexico but the two I have attempted to use, learned me from ME and my research, but they bend over backwards to try to help in other areas all they can.

As far as not hearing from the hotels, I would call the 1 800 number they provide and make sure you have the correct email address and try it again.  If another 5 days go by, I would start picking new Resorts, just my opinion.....Good luck to ya...let me know if i can help out :)

In terms of contacting the resorts I have heard that alot that people wait a long time to get responses. They are doing multiple weddings a day plus responding to probably hundreds of emails a day so I wouldn't worry too much about that. If you don't hear soon though I would probably send a follow-up email.

In terms of the travel agent I think if you haven't heard anything back thats a bad sign and you should choose a new travel agent. I'm Canadian too and I am using the travel agent from this website. Becky works in B.C., I'm in Alberta but so far she has been fantastic! She gets back to my emails within hours. I have never waited even a full day to hear back from her. She emails the resorts for me and cc's me on everything so I see all correspondence but don't have to email the resorts myself.

You can find her on this website or PM me if you want her contact info.

Hope that helps some!

I was also going to suggest that you perhaps look into using one of the travel agents on this website. They have worked with a range of hotels and I am sure will be able to assist you and answer questions you may have. As for the resorts sometimes because of how swamped they are it may take a while to hear back from them.Try sending a second request email just to be sure. Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
