Is it "real"????

Hi there,

 

I noticed several women have gotten married to Dominicen men who they met in DR. I also met a Dominican man when I went on my trip to Puerto Plata a few months ago and fell madly in love. However, a lot of my friends are warning me that it may be a scam to come to Canada.

 

I was just curious if anyone would like to share their thoughts with me on this. I hope those of you that have married, that everything is still going well. It will be encouraging (or discouraging) to me to hear some comments on this....My guy sounds just so so sincere so it would be helpful to know that a marriage to a Dominican man can work and is genuine.

My Uncle married a Cuban lady and people thought the same thing...about 12 years later and 2 children they are still happily married....I guess you will just Know if the person is right for you!

Being from the US, I can't say for sure how things are in Canada, but with the background I have, it's something that would be scary to me depending on how long your trip was to start off.  I know with americans, foreigners tend to flock to US women to help them get into the United States.  I'm not sure if that's the same case with Canadians, but I wouldn't be surprised. 

I'm not saying that it's not genuine, I'm just saying I'd be uber cautious with the whole thing.  With all that I know, it's a thing males do to get into the country more so than females. 

 

I guess all I can say is don't rush anything, make sure it's right before it's a big legal mess and you end up unhappy in the end.  For your sake, I hope it's real and not just someone playing you to get into your country.

I sent you a PM Susan but after reading more had to comment.

 

My dad's sister (who is white and racist) is from Merrillville Indiana (near Gary Indiana).  She has experienced the same thing as Ellabaja.  She has seen this situation so many times so I can understand her feelings (to a point).  However you can notice from the way I started this comment that I no longer consider her family after the things she said to me.  I can appreciate peoples concerns, comments, criticisms, and I respect everyone's opinions, but she really drew the line after some comments.

 

REMEMBER you are financially responsible for him for 3 years.  If he leaves you, he can decide to be a bum and not work - but YOU have to pay for everything for him.  He is NOT able to go on welfare, social assistance, unemployment etc.  So like Ellabaja said, don't rush into anything and really get to know him.

Just for you to have an idea I am a Dominican Republic resident,  I have been leaving here the past 6 years, and I have hear a lot of this type of stories, as well as seen lots of girls that have been foolish really badly.

I am married to a great dominican guy so you cannot generalized, but this is a really common  practice, specialy dominican guys.

You just need to take your time really get to know the person and dont rush into anything... My parents are Dominican and that is what a lot of them are known for so just be careful... i dont want to Stereotype but be careful.

Thanks for replying and yes I did read the DR1 article several months ago....but siince there are women who HAVE married "great Dominican guys" such as yourself....that proves they DO exist :>).  

 

Where are you originally from? How long did you know this Dominican man before you married him? How was he different, do you think (if you don't mind me asking) from your "sankie", in other words how did you know he waas the "real thing"?

I am really sorry it takes me so long I have had a crazy week at work.

 

I am from Argentina, I do not mind that you asked at all, at the begining after hearing all this stories I was really nervous as well.

 

As I lived here it was so much easy to notice the difference.   As Elizabeth said it is not nice to Stereotype but usually is the employees of the entertainment team at the Resorts, or guys that approched you at the beach.

 

Again there are really nice guys and mine is a great one but you better have your eyes open.

 

We were together for 6 years!  and got married on December it was a dream wedding.   How did you met your men?

Since you live in DR and are probably familiar with what the "sankie" type looks like (personality, clothes etc.) do you think I could send you some pictures of Paco (my Dominican guy) because I think one can tell a certain amount by looking at pictures....just something in the eyes. I just think Paco looks so sweet and sincere in his picutres. Would that be okay? And I'll also tell you more about him was well when I send the photos. I would have to send them to your email address though. Is that okay?
