A bit about us, and our planning so far!

OK so I just figured out that this blog exists! This forum is amazing. I love it!

I guess I'll start by introducing myself...my name is Heather and I'm originally from a city 2 hours outside of Toronto (London). I moved to Toronto 3 years ago, and in Jan of 2006 my brother introduced me to Matie (now my FI). We knew pretty quickly that it was different than anything we'd experienced before. We got our dog (Nixon, a puggle) 5 months later, and bought our first place together 2 months after that (but we still haven't moved into it yet!). We officially moved in together about a year after dating, but really we had been pretty much living together since about the 3 month mark of dating.

In early May 2008, Matie picked me up at work in a limo with my bag packed in the trunk, and immediately proposed. He took me to the airport and we went off to Vegas for the weekend! He had gotten the day off from my boss without me knowing, and actually did a perfect job at packing my bag (shocking, I know). It was such a great weekend!

Now here we are - in the midst of planning. So far we have chosen the place we want but are still negotiating pricing before we can be sure it fits into our budget (it's the Imperial Suite at the Fiesta Americana). We have chosen the date (Oct 29, 2009, based mostly on travel schedules and the availability of the Imperial Suite). We knew we wanted to give people at least one year's notice, and we didn't want people to travel to Cabo in the summer (when it's already nice and hot in Toronto), so we figured Fall 2009 was the earliest we could do it. Our guests will be staying at the Riu Palace (and so will we) because we've been there before, and we think it's the best value for our guests. We're trying to keep costs as low as possible for them while making sure they have an amazing experience.

So far, that's it! We've gotten some quotes on travel but nothing has been booked yet. I like to be pretty thorough so I know I won't be making any jump decisions...but hopefully I can get these 2 major things (reception location and group travel rates) booked soon!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
