help! nervous groom!

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

My name is Joe, and I'm the nervous groom. We've settled on a date (11/6/10), and a destination (Cabo). We're having a pretty small wedding with a projected 16-18 guests (including kids). We are planning on having a fairly casual symbolic ceremony (simple, short, and non-religious) and getting legally married when we get back home. I need some advice on a few important decisions.

We were hoping to avoid the huge mega-resorts, but would still like to be on the beach if possible. There are going to be two families with young children, and suites with some sort of kitchenette might be nice (although the families could stay separate from the rest of us). We were thinking about Marbella Suites en la Playa, as they seem to fit our needs and have favorable reviews on tripdavisor. They would be able to accomodate us, but already have a wedding booked for that date. So I'm wondering if it would be crazy to still stay there, but arrange for a ceremony elsewhere on the beach. Any suggestions for nice alternative lodging that would meet our needs would also be welcome. I'd also like to see how people feel about hiring a wedding coordinator, especially since we're hoping to do something fairly simple. I'm guessing that we'll lean toward just getting one to help make sure everything goes smoothly, and we'll probably get an officiant and photographer as well.

Thanks

Hi Joe,

I recommend trying Villa del Arco, Villa la Estancia, and Villa del Palmar. They are wonderful condo-style resorts right next to one another. They are closer to town than Marbella, so you have the option to walk into town and avoid taxi fare. Villa del Arco is VERY kid friendly and even has a giant pirate ship near the pool for the kids to play on. I believe they have a kids program as well. The resort also does weddings.

As far as a coordinator, it all depends on how hands-on you are willing to be. Finding a photographer, officiant, etc will take some research, but you can really find everything you need on this site. Additionally, you'll get some help from the coordinator at the hotel/resort.

Good Luck and Congrats!

Hi Joe! Congratulations - it is great to see a groom on the forum! My suggestion, if you are already a bit nervous, would be to look for an independent wedding coordinator who can help you from start to finish - finding a venue that suits you, working to contract your vendors, planning your day and being present to make sure that it goes smoothly while you enjoy every moment!

I'm sure your wedding will be amazing! Best of luck with everything!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
