May 2011- affordable private reception

Recommended Posts

Hello I am new to this forum, I am planning on having a destination wedding in puerto vallarta but the prices seem very similar to a US wedding. I am looking on having a private reception for around 80-100 but it seems that a lot of villas have curfews and lots of restrictions. Resorts I dont find as private as I would like a beachfront reception. Any ideashuh.gif I want to have a catholic ceremony so the PV church it is since catholic church does not allow outside wedding ceremony.

What about the Martoca Beach club? No time restrictions. You could do the catholic church in the Marina (which would be closer than the downtown church) .... or Bucerias probably has a catholic church, but I've never been there ... although going there this saturday to check out a villa wink.gif.... there's a villa in Bucerias called Hacienda Camino del Mar - I don't think they have time restrictions - and their fares are a bit more reasonable because they aren't right on the beach - but a block up - but the villa is gorgeous. I've also heard that weddings at Le Kliff are fairly reasonable and, for that amount of people, you might be able to close the restaurant for your event ....

anyway, just a few ideas....

I have heard of some people using a Palapa in Bucerias via Karen's Place resturant. I haven't seen it, nor do I know prices but I have heard going to Bucerias, Sayulita, or San Francisco (aka San Pancho) can be cheaper. They all have smaller hotels and more villas and condos. We honeymooned in Bucerias and took a day trip to Sayulita. We loved both and will likely stay there next time we go to PV.

I looked at Terra Noble spa when I went down for a site visit. It is set up in the hills and overlooks downtown and the bay. I would guess it doesn't have the 11pm restriction on amplified music because it is so high up and by itself. By the way, you can apply for a permit to extend the amplified music past 11 if you choose to use a villa.

Have you checked out Villa Garza Blanca? Price can be negotiated at times! They are set apart from other homes on the beach and don't have restrictions in terms of end time! Also, some of the villas in the Bucerias area (about 30 minutes north of PV) are much more affordable than the ones situated right downtown PV - particularly look at the Casa Rana/Casa Playita Estate (not huge and expansive but GREAT beach space!) Also, later on in July/August, we will be gifting a set of Mexican-themed invitations in return for feedback on them as well - just a way for you to possibly keep overall wedding costs down - info at the blog below if you are interested!

Our reception was at Amapa Sunset, about 5 blocks from the Catholic church downtown. We had 109 people, the reception was from 6 pm to 11 pm, they served chicken, fish, beef, and hamburgers and unlimited beer for 4 hours, handled all of the busing of the tables, and seated all of our guests according to their assigned tables, and the total cost was around 60000-70000 pesos (about $6k USD). They did a really fantastic job!

The month of May has a few days of rain, so you may want to consider that in planning your event if you want it outdoors. Our wedding was April 23, and it rained in the very early morning and was cloudy in the afternoon with a few sprinkles but not a full shower.

Remember to just have fun and to enjoy your day. :)

Have you figured out what you are going to do yet?  I know that my wedding planner is having a trip for brides to PV in Sept. It is a good way for brides to see everything the destination has to offer and meet with various vendors.  If you are interested let me know and I can put you in contact with her.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
