SGOR: What's the Difference?

Can someone explain the difference between a private reception and a semi-private reception (ambiance, atmosphere, cost, etc.)?

We had a private reception at SGOR. They had chosen the High Reef Terrace for our location. Howver, we picked the ballroom for our rception and used the HIgh Reef Terrace for our welcome dinner on Friday evening. The ballroom can be divided into different sections. We were the only funtoon in there on our wedding evening. It cost us $75.00 per person. They did an excellent job!

I did not see a semi-private reception take place while we we there.

Thanks for sharing your experience jamaicabride09! I guess I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around paying $75 per person for a reception when a) we're at an all-inclusive where the food is free anyway, and we're having a rather expensive AHR the week we return to Houston. I was hoping there was a way we could just all sit together at one of the restaurants and have dinner together the evening of the ceremony. If we could have music, that would be great too.

You can do that! I am a Beaches bride and we are opting out of the $75 per person reception. I can not fathom paying $75 per person when its an all inclusive. I just cant. And reading past brides reviews and knowing past brides of sandals and beaches they opted to do the free reception and all go to dinner together and everything worked out amazing. I never heard one bad thing. You can also upgrade to the extended cocktail hour for $25 per person. With appetizers and open bar. I think you have a lot of options. My one close friend got married at beaches and they went to eat at a restaurant after and the wait staff put them in their own secluded section on the patio and they said it was fab!

I know at the SJGOR a private reception is the $75pp sit down plated dinner, and the semi-private is a free dinner at the buffet. They reserve a section for the group and then you eat with everyone else in the resort. We opted for the private reception, as providing a nice meal for all of guests is (we feel) the least we can do for all traveling down to share in our special day. Stick with the budget you have and I am sure your resort will make everything fabulous.
