Why Cuba?

Was inspired by a similar thread in the Jamaica forum. I searched and didn't find any similar thread.

Why did you choose Cuba as your destination? Why did you choose the city, the resort?

We chose Cuba because it's probably the last expensive place in the Caribbean to fly to from Canada. Plus I've been there 3 times and LOVED it. I know the food can be bland, but the beach and the grounds are so awesome, the people are very nice, and the atmosphere is just great.

Then we chose Varadero because we wanted to be close to the city in case some people would want to wander out the resort, shop, sightsee, etc.

As for the resort, I wanted a nice beach, FI wanted a nice pool, and we both wanted a disco. Also had to be kid-friendly as FI's 12 year old will be coming with us. I prefer the bungalow look while FI prefers the "hotel" type, so we tried to find a compromise between the two. And of course, we were looking for one we lots of great reviews!

Oh- good thread idea!

We picked Cuba because we wanted something that was relatively inexpensive since we'd be asking so many people to make the trip. My parents go there almost every year and love it, so that was another factor. Not having a lot of weird requirments to get married there was nice, too (ie no blood tests or translations needed).

We picked the resort we did because it's on a white sand beach that is supposed to be awesome and we're huge beach bums. It's a bit more secluded than some other locations and I thought that would be nice for a wedding. I wanted a resort that was a bit larger, with lots of bars and restaurants so that there would be something for everyone. I also liked the reviews I read about it- seems like they do weddings very well. Finally, my TA recomended it.

We choose Cuba because it is a beautiful place, with very hospitable people. They are willing to accommidate in any way they can. Getting married there is very easy, relaxed, and they go out of their way to make it as special as they can. They is something for everyone in Cuba. The things to do are endless. The beaches are beautiful and the water is incredible. The tours also offer something for everyone. I have yet to have a bad experience there. And I could not have imagine getting married anywhere else. It was like paradise! They weather was perfect, the day beautiful. And the resort staff went above and beyond! It is also a very safe country to travel and be in. I am now counting the days until we can return to Cuba! I recommend the country to everyone who has the opportunity to travel there. I do not believe that anyone will or would regret getting married there. It will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Hey Ladies,

I like this idea! Honestly when I started planning I was thinking that Cuba would be down on my list - but after researching and being so frustrated with high prices in other countries I decided to look into Cuba (after talking to TAs and friends). I think Cuba gets a bad rep sometimes, although I'm not sure why! I have never been but I have only ever heard great things from ppl who have been there.

I am trying not to have unrealistic expectations of what to expect, but I'm sure it will be fun and beautiful (I have only ever been to Mexico which was very fun as well). I chose the same place as Melidell - for similar reasons. It is relatively new, and looks beautiful and is well known for weddings. The only down side is that there is no night life off resort, which is ok with me, there are still lots of excursions and things to do in the area. I am excited to experience a new country too.

We chose Cuba for the same reason - it's very reasonably priced and we wanted to make it as affordable as possible for our friends and family. I was torn between the Mayan Riviera and Varadero but as soon as we heard about Iberostar Laguna Azul, I was sold. While I am worried about the food (I'm a total foodie) the gorgeous beach, beautiful pools, disco and everything else will hopefully make up for it!

We choose Cuba because first of all we got engaged there and thought what better place then to return to the sunny beaches of Cuba for our I DO's. Plus, i have always wanted a beach wedding. Secondly, the price can't be beat and we have a lot of family and friends coming. Last, but not least, the beaches are amazing and the people are soooooo friendly and I know everyone will have a great. I have been to Cuba twice and i fall in love with it everytime.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
