Flexible, reasonably priced, Day-of-Wedding WC in PV?

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I am looking for recommendations for a flexible, reasonably-priced WC in Puerto Vallarta. I have received some quotes, but a lot of the caterers/coordinators I wrote to never responded so I do not have a good way to compare or have an idea what is a good price. Our reception is at Casa Carol Ann so a coordinator would be very helpful, particularly a Day-of-Wedding coordinator.

I also LOVE decorating and organizing...so I want to do a lot of the planning and decorating myself, which is another reason that I am looking for someone reasonably-priced and flexible...basically I need a Day-of-Wedding coordinator, and someone to help me with suggestions or negotiate prices with vendors. I am not looking for someone who will do everything for us.

I originally found someone I thought I could work with...I thought I explained what I was looking for...now they say my budget is too low for them and will not work with me. They also told me it will be hard for me to find someone in PV who will be flexible, reasonbly-priced, and meet my needs at the same time.

I can't believe this to be true...so, does anyone have any recommendations?

THANKS!

Unfortunately, the coordinator you spoke with was probably telling you the truth. I only know of one coordinator who is willing to do day of coordination, but she only does it rarely. The problem you run into in Vallarta is twofold 1) that there are only a handful of vendors who are reliable and on time and 2) vendors here only respect the person hiring them - so, if you hire a WC but the vendors have been dealing with you, the WC, to them, has very little pull and say - which makes for a very difficult working relationship. Working here is not like working up north - so there is a lot of baby sitting and visiting and what some may see as "dawdling" - but it's all necessary to pull the right strings, open the right doors, lower the right prices, push a little here, pull a little there in order to get what you want.

OF COURSE, you can do that yourself. But I would find it highly unlikely (unless you speak Spanish - which, if you do - awesome!) that you'll be able to get lower prices than a Spanish speaker would. It's just part of the event business down here.

so, anyway, I'm not saying "stop looking" - just trying to explain why it may be hard to find :):).

Thanks for replying! I understand everything that you've mentioned, and it makes perfect sense. :)

I think the most important thing for us is to find someone who is flexible and will let us do some of the details ourselves (rather than have just a day-of coordinator). For example, some things we already have resources for include photographer (a friend of mine who will fly down) and florists (my fiancee is from Mexico, and his family used to have a florist shop in Mexico and now they have one in LA so they want to do the arrangements, as long as we can order or buy flowers).

I definitely would like to have a coordinator... the one I thought would work with me in the end told me to do it myself, but that I would probably never find anyone to do the day-of coordinating. She said her vendors were reliable and to contact them directly if I wanted. I just want someone flexible enough to let us do some of it ourselves, and work with us on the rest. I do speak Spanish fluently (and of course my fiancee does as he is Mexican), and I know Puerto Vallarta very well so I feel very comfortable doing some things myself.

Overall, we are both feeling a bit disappointed and regretting that we chose to get married in Puerto Vallarta! We feel like our wedding day should be the way we envision it, with participation from family and friends if that is what we want...not what others tell us we have to do.

That said, I did find a few coordinators that seemed flexible, but I am looking for other recommendations for WCs that are not the kind that do everything for you.

All recommendations welcome! Please post or PM me :)

Hello! :) That's awesome that you speak Spanish and that you have spanish speakers to help you - since so much of it you want to do yourself and doesn't seem that you need the expertise of someone from Vallarta, have you considered asking someone in your family to be the wedding coordinator? When you are doing so much on your own, it sounds like what you really need is just someone to manage things the day of so you can sit back and get ready - so, it might be best to ask someone in your family to be the wedding coordinator the day of - or, perhaps, someone in your family knows someone who is very organized and you just pay their plane fare and a hotel room stay? Just a thought :):).

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
