Antigua wedding paradise!!! A dream come true

Wedding in paradise!!!

My wife (as of June 2nd /09) and I just returned from 14 fabulous days at the Sandals Grande Antigua Resort in Antigua. We have nothing but praise for this resort. Everything was first class. The Staff was amazing, from our Champaign greeting upon or arrival, to the multiple fruit plates sent to the room and rose peddles put on our bed the wedding night…it was just so fantastic! I could go on forever but here are a few highlights:

Food: let me tell you that you will not stop eating, and you won’t find a bad meal anywhere.

Bayside Buffet, everyday has a new theme...and don’t think about it as buffet food…it is high standards in that place.

Ok Corel – Best ribs ever!!!!!!!! The BBQ sauce they put on the ribs and chicken is to die for.

Mario’s – Great pizza for lunch (be prepared to wait though) and dinners are sensational

Kimono’s – what a fun night. We did this twice. Great food and you will not walk away hungry. Ask for Sugars room – you will know why after! Sugar is the BEST!!!!

Oh I could go on, just know all the food is great, and for late night snack (or even dinner) tries out Cricketeers – felt like I was at my local English pub.

Rooms:

We stayed in a Rondaval ocean front. Was great. Large room, cleaned every day, and nice turn down service. PLUS our fridge was stocked every day with what we wanted, and if we ran out they brought more no questions asked.

Resort:

This place is big. 2 unique sides though. The new Mediterranean side reminds me of Vegas. Gorgeous rooms, but lot of walking if you’re up there. We stayed on the Caribbean side. Closer to the ocean and many of the facilities but older rooms – but no matter where you go you will be happy.

Wedding:

My wife and I got married on the beach on June 2nd. The wedding staff was fantastic. They took away the stress from us leading up to and upon our day (well as much as possible) the wedding was absolutely beautiful, a complete dream. We had 25 guests with us, and everyone gave us nothing but praise about the day!!!! I would highly recommend going away and doing it in the tropics. Our pictures are beautiful! White sand, crystal blue water, sun…..but it was HOT! The day went seamless, everyone took care of us, the video we received was amazing, the pictures are beautiful, and at night our reception food was fantastic. They actually came around and asked everyone how they wanted their steak cooked….where do you ever get that at a wedding? Looking back, I could not dream of a better wedding!

In conclusion we had the most amazing trip. Our friends all had the times of their lives also. We highly recommend the resort, and if your thinking of a wedding there…..go for it!!!!!!

I would like to make note of a few amazing staff members!

Latoya – bartender at the small swim up bar on the Caribbean side. She served 25 people all day every day and did not skip a beat. Ask for the dirty banana….she makes the best! We love ya, if for nothing else were coming back to see you!!!!

Niki is the food and drink manager. Every day she is out there talking to the guests and making sure everything is ok. She never stops smiling. She made us feel so at home

Shae was the one who kept us active around the resort. Shae was amazing, what a fantastic guy. He even stood in the background and watch our wedding.

Leslie the front desk manager, she was not happy unless we were. We were really treated like gold by her and the whole staff.

Have fun!!!!

Dave & Jen

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
