Thoughts. suggestions, opinions of Dreams Tulum needed!!

Recommended Posts

Hey there guys! I know many of you have been to Dreams (hint hint Jason!)! I am looking for some feedback about the resort. This resort is cheaper for our guests and may be a better option for our wedding. I am concerned because it is an all-ages resort. Are there a lot of kids running around? I know it is hard to predict, but we are going May 7th-14th, 2008.

Other questions we have:

How was the food? The beach? How long does it take to get to PDC? Have you seen any weddings/receptions there?

I know the list of questions is long, but I know I can count on you guys for quality and honest opinions!!

Thanks a bunch in advance!!

Actually, Karen and I are going to get married there site-unseen. We chose Dreams for a number of reasons like price, location (we love the town of Tulum), availability and it just looks like a great place.

Some other people on here like Laura have been there and loved the place which made choosing Dreams a little easier. We leave in less than a month now though. I would be more than happy to fill you in when we get back though.

Amy,

I went there for a site visit (yes, Lisa - I know I need to write a review! lol). It was a gorgeous resort. I was only there for an hour, not a night - but here are my thoughts on it (mini review!):

Kids - yes, there were a lot of them... but not annoyingly so. They had a really great kids club off to the side. We went and walked through it, and they have something from all ages, right up to teenagers... hell, I didn't want to leave the kids club! lol. They even have like a mini buffet area there, where a private cook will make them lunch. It was awesome.

The pool area I found to be incredibly crowded. It sort of reminded me of a cruise, where everyone is lined around the pool. There are 2 (? maybe more) pools, but they're right next to eachother, so they're both kind of crowded... although the second/smaller pool was a bit better in that there were places to sit and the pool itself wasn't crowded.

Food - I didn't try it, but we did stop in all of the restaurants during our tour and they were doing prep for lunch at the time - OMG it smelled so good. And the kids seemed to be enjoying the seaside grill when we were walking by!

The resort - the layout is beautiful. You walk out the back of the lobby and there is a row of buildings to each side right to the beach. It's a gorgeous view, and fantastic first impression! My only nay-say about this layout was that there are A LOT of rooms that don't get an ocean view. the layout continues to the side so that there are a lot of rooms that face inwards, into a terrace area... which is still beautiful and peaceful... each terrace area (I don't know what else to call it! lol) has plant life, benches and fountains. But still, when most people go to a location like Mexico, they want ocean views! I'm not sure how many actual ocean view rooms there are, but I'd check if I were you.

That's all I can think of now. I don't have pictures on this computer... but I should really post them!! lol

Thanks for posting Courtney! I really like this resort, especially since it is a sister resort to Secrets, our first choice, but I am really worried about the reviews I have been reading on Trip Advisor as well as on the Dreams forum! This picking a resort stuff is stressing me out!

Finally Courtney! Man, it took you long enough! LOL! Just kidding. Thanks for the mini review. Personally, I'm excited to see a new/different place. Maybe that's the adventurer in me. Everyone coming with us (31 so far) are all soooo excited....even knowing that on one has been here.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
