Bad Experience with Tensing Pen

Recommended Posts

I must agree with the bad reviews Tensing Pen receives for communication and treatment of guests.

My fiance and I had been looking to get married at the beginning of the off-season at a hotel on the cliffs in Negril. We contacted many properties and decided to move forward with Tensing Pen.

Here is our experience:

The communication with wedding coordinator was terrible. Every email we sent was not returned until days or a week later and no phone call was ever returned. It took a few weeks to get enough information to decide we wanted to move forward with the wedding there. We decided we were willing to deal with such lax communication to have our wedding at a beautiful location.

We told them were willing to reserve the entire property for our wedding, but because we feel short of their guest requirement, they would not allow us. They did, however, tell us we still could have the wedding there but other guests would be at the property, which was fine with us. Once we decided to book with them, I asked the wedding coordinator if we could set up a phone call to finalize everything and have no heard back from her in over 3 weeks. I'm guessing they decided not to move forward with us.

I'm very angry with this treatment because we had spent weeks working with them while the date we wanted to get married on was being books at other resorts. If they didn't want to host our wedding, they should have been upfront with us instead of strining us along and then ignoring our emails and phone calls for weeks.

In the end, we deicded to host our wedding at Coyaba Beach Resort in Montego Bay and couldn't been happier with their service so far. I can't wait for my wedding next year!

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. What shame because it is such a nice spot from the looks of it. I am looking to get married on the cliffs (wedding part only) and had put Tensing Pen on the short list. After reading enough threads on bad communication I didn't even bother getting in touch. I have been in touch with Negril Escape though and while we haven't made a final decision on them, their communication (email and phone) has been stellar. I just thought I'd put this out there in case anyone is looking for an alternative on the cliffs.

Congrats on booking Coyaba - it looks awesome!

I agree. I am planning my wedding at Tensing Pen. I believe it will end up okay in the end, but it has been a very very painful process. If I had known how painful it would be ahead of time, I would have booked elsewhere. The entire idea behind a destination wedding is that it should be stress free.

  • 1 year later...

Completely disagree with anything negative about this Property.  Magical Place, beautiful people.  Some things are just meant to be and the universe has a way of making things happen according to a much larger plan.  Perhaps, since the new management of Evelyn and Joseph Smith earlier this year, this is old information.  Our experience, in lieu of Tropical storm Nicole on Oct. 2nd 2010 was absolutely perfect!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
