Perfect dress

So this weekend, one of my bridesmaid's flew into town to go to a bridal show with me. We spent Saturday afternoon casually visiting 2-3 dress shops to get an idea of whether what I'm looking at for BM dresses will actually look ok on the bridesmaid's and to get their input on comfort, etc...

 

So, here's a BM dress that I love, but the color is wrong and I can't find the same style in the right color:

And, as we were leaving one shop, I saw this dress and just fell in love with it! It's exactly the style that I've wanted:

Here's my dilemma (beside the obvious fact that our wedding is over 1.5 years away yet):

 

The size of the dress is a 6. In my best dream, I wouldn't be able to get that thing past my kneecaps! wink.gif So, I'm debating whether I should just go ahead and have the dress made even without knowing what it would look like on me. Has anyone else done this? If so, what was your experience? (Were you pleased with the way the dress looked? Did you wish you had kept looking?)

i really like both dresses and i like the color of the BM dress although i dont know what youre thinking about as far as color goes.

 

can you find a similar dress to the one you want in a size you can try on? maybe not at a bridal store? that way you can be sure its a style you really like on. i dont know how many times ive heard brides say the didnt get anything close to what they thought theyd get after they started trying dresses on.

And that's exactly what I'm afraid of---- I told my BM on Saturday that just because I love the dress doesn't mean it would look good on me....

The BM color is way off (crappy camera phone)--- the actual color on the tag said "currant", but it was more like a purple to me. We (meaning I) want a very light blue for the BM dress. I did find some similar ones at David's Bridal, and their new 2007 spring catalog has some that would definitely be the right color and same "spirit" (kind of a retro 50/60/Audrey Hepburn style).

i would shop around. see if you can find a similar style. see if you like it. find a good seamstress early out. i didnt have my dress made until about a month before my wedding. i probably wouldnt suggest that for everyone. my dress was the only one this lady was working on. you have plenty of time. and you probably will even change your mind between now and then.

Wow Maria I love that dress and the way it gathers/drapes. Since you have time I say shop around for a good seamstress. What I'm about to suggest is really tacky so take it with a grain of salt blush2.gif

 

In high school I found a prom dress that I needed, no other dress even compared. It was $450 and my parents said "hell no". After checking the return policy and finding a good seamstress, I bought the $450 dress. It was 2 sizes too small. I took it to my seamstress who made a pattern of it. Then I returned the unharmed dress to the store and the seamstress made me a lovely dress in my size that was almost identical. She charged me $120. Not bad.

 

Okay that was in the 90's in CA but I'm sure in Texas you can find a reasonable dress shop that can hook you up. The lady who made mine didn't even have a store, it was word of mouth from a few girls who used her to make their quincenera dresses, she worked out of her house but knew what she was doing. Ask around, maybe you know someone whose child/relative is having or had a quincenera, seriously it's worth a try. You can probably go back and sneak a bunch of pics of the dress and a good seamstress can make it from there.

      Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010.       Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations.
