Legal day?

Our real wedding in Cabo is only technically a symbolic ceremony. So I am wondering about the legal day. Do we just go to some office building and sign something? Is it like how Carrie and Big get married in Sex and the City? Do we say vows? Should we have guests? Should i wear white? Im in DFW so any specific info (or general) would be appreciated. Thank you!

Its what you want to make of it. We just had our immediate family. None of the other guest new. In MO. I had to call the court house to schedule a time. We went in with the judge and he read the vows. We signed papers and were done. Not sure about your state. You might want to call your local county court system and ask. We had to apply for the license a head of time.

Hello Leanne,

Your question is very common and just as Kelly mentioned, you would make it as you want. In Cabo and anywhere else, the symbolic ceremony is the one that stands for memories, pictures, party and even for anniversary date in some cases. The legal ceremony however is a bit cold, but it is the one that makes your marriage valid. With all the responsibilities and obligations.

Some states do require to bring two witnesses along, some don't and you need to get a license in advance. The legal wedding is as important as your symbolic ceremony. Some people wear their traditional wedding outfits. But ultimately it will be as you want it to be.

Hopefully this information was helpful. Have a very beautiful day now.

I am sure you can, but it depends on who/where you are doing the ceremony. In Toronto, there are specific city-owned chapels that you rent the space and provide your own officiant -- in which case, you do coordinate your particulars with him/her. At the city hall downtown, there is a private company that they have contracted out to do the weddings, but they are short ceremonies booked every 15 minutes and you only get 5-10 minutes with the officiant before the ceremony starts (you don't get to meet him/her beforehand).

In short, you can do whatever your heart's desire for your legal day -- like I am thinking of doing mine at home as a nikkah complete with a sari and mehendi for my FI's family. Then we'll be doing our DW carribean style for my side wink.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
