It's pricey, but not so much so that you're totally floored. It's a former british colony (still part of the commonwealth). The history there is amazing - so many beautiful old churches, so many interesting former inhabitants.

There is a wide range of hotels - from true economy venues to mid-priced AI's (the Almond Resorts group is good), right on up to Sandy Lane, where you can spend thousands per night. We stayed at the Hilton (used my HiltonHonors points) and LOVED it!

They arranged a once-around-the-island tour for us and it was great - went to the rum factory, beaches on the other side of the island, a couple of old churches... so much fun!

I'm trying to post a couple of photos - but photobucket keeps crashing when I try to resize. Let me work on it a bit.

UPDATE: Okay, managed the photobucket thing - here are a couple of photos:

Shelley,

I've been to Barbados for 10 days in Oct. 2006. it was FANTASTIC. you are right, the beaches were great. The people very friendly. The inexpensive food was all fried, so that was a downer. you can get good food, just have to pay more. we ended up getting breakfast and lunch from the grocery on most days and then went out to dinner. we stayed near Christchurch which is where the bars and restaurants are. We did a submarine tour, snorkeled and shopped downtown. it was lovely. I'll see if i can post some pics.

We initially began planning our wedding for Barbados in April 2009 because FI is from there. We were basing our decision on 2008 prices and had even decided on a resort. Then, when the 2009 prices came out we were shocked to see that the AI cost per person would be upwards of $3000 per person. While we were willing to pay that, we couldn't ask our guests to pay that much so we decided to stick with a DW but just a more affordable one. We plan on going to Barbados in 2010 as an anniversary honeymoon.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
