Pros: great for groups, access to other resorts, good food and drinks
Cons: hard to get a seat by the pool

My FI and I recently attended a friend's wedding here and we had a GREAT time.  The bride and groom were also thrilled with the service and their wedding.   What I loved about this resort were a few things

  • One big pool with booth type seating makes it easy to find people most of the time.  Also great for all lounging together during the day.  Some people sitting on the edge, some in the pool, but we could all chat and felt like we had our own little area.
  • FREE Wifi in the lobby.  Loved that it was free! Overall it worked pretty well, brought an ipad and had no troubles.  Sometimes a little slow if a lot of people were using it but that is too be expected.
  • Access to all the Riu resorts, you could walk aways down the beach and still be able to get a drink or find a bathroom you could use.  Or hang out by a different pool.  This was good for the bride and groom the day for the wedding.
  • Rooms and other facilities were always clean.
  • Food was good, no one ended up sick.  There was a pineapple cucumber drink, green and weird looking, but my oh my it was good.  so refreshing, they only had at breakfast
  • Drinks were quick and didn't seem watered down.
  • Group of 20, always able to sit together at the back of the buffet every night at dinner

Only complaints

  • Sometimes the towels looked stained, I would just change it.  This happened twice, but we were getting towels really late those days, noonish
  • Hard to get a chair by the pool after 9:30 or so.  Wouldn't be so bad if more of the chairs had umbrellas.  This a common problem at most resorts.
  • Door and safe had an actual key.  Pain to carry around and someone pointed out could be copied.  Room key also has your room number on it.  We just took off the room number and attached to a lanyard.

Overall we loved the resort and we are staying at the Riu Palace Riveria Maya for our wedding.  It was really great for a group.
