Pros: beautiful, pools, beach, activities
Cons: food, rocky beach, DISTANCE, lil bit of rude srvc

okay, we are going to try our best to cover all bases.

Check In:

its 1hr and 15min drive from the airport (CUN).

the greet you with champagne and towels (very nice)

check in was simple enough. they upgraded us to the preferred honeymoon suite. we orginally booked a JSOV for 1wk. the room was very nice. almost exactly to the room we stayed in at Secrets Silver Sands (will refer to as SSS from now on).

Antonio, our bell boy was kind and explained the layout of our room.

DH parents had a problem because their room wasn't ready on time. They waited about two hours.

Our bestman and my friend reserved a delux garden view w/2 beds. they didnt have it saved. But they did offer them an upgrade for an extra $40-60 a night. Uh no! He told the manager to give them that room at no extra charge because they messed up the room reservation. They complied.

My sister said her sheets smelled funny. The bestmans pillow were funky too.

No one else had complaints.

The Resort:

The beach center front is VERY rocky! Our friend cut her foot :-/

BUT! If you move south a lil bit (in front of the massage tents) the ocean floor is soft like carpet :-) and only slightly rocky in the first 2ft. They have free activites like kayaking, that was cool.

The pools are nice and clean. When we stayed at SSS last year, there was alot of sand compiled on the floor. Not here at DT. We also never had a problem with finding chairs or towels. I heard others complain about that. But we never reached the pools until late afternoon because we spent the mornings in the beach. The barstaff walked around the pools/beaches to take your drink orders, very nice! We tipped one fella very well to bring our food orders. He did. :)

The food at the restaraunts were not so great. Kind of gross. SSG had a yucky sandwhich and an ok burger. Thumbs Down!

El Patio was bad too. It wasn't even packed and I waited and hour for my meal. But my friends were in and out in 30mins. I dont get it. The waiter was rude too. When he took our drink orders I asked him if I could give him our food orders already (I was in a rush) and he put his hand up and told me to slow down. Excuse me??

Bordeaux was okay, but my MIL makes their menu look like a fast food joint. It took over an hour for 2 of us. I guess because it was too busy. The waiter was slow at getting us bread and drinks.

Portofino, was also too busy. Took over an hour to serve 5 of us. Food was a little better here. The second time we tried Portofino, we arrived at 10:15 but werent seated until 10:45pm. Then the waiter said he would go ahead and take our full order because the kitchen closed in 15mins. But then he just stood there and repeated the order for like 7 mins. Then he gets our drinks and orders wrong! Ugh, this upset us. Then he tried convicing us to come back another night. This was our guests last night. Then we overheard him telling the table behind us the same thing. They refused because it was there last night too! Thumbs down on service at Portofino.

Our friends dined at the Asian spot, they enjoyed it, but we never got a chance to visit.

I did enjoy breakfast everday at the World Cafe. But I love breakfast so you can almost never go wrong with me on that. Everyone else enjoyed their breakfast too.

We ordered room service all day after the wedding and never left our room. They even made special orders for us when items werent on the menu. Never took too long. Food was always warm and well presented. Thumbs Up.

The guys at the bars were okay. Not the friendliest I've encountered in Mexico. They kind of always gave a little attitude when you took a second to give them your order. Geez. But when DH or the BM showed up, they were alert! Because they tipped very well. lol.

The resort did a great job in hosting activities at night, movies, shows, etc. Everyone enjoyed that!

The disco was fun too. The entertainment team go crazy in there, lol. funny stuff to watch.

The stores are way over priced. Best buy souveniers elsewhere. Like PDC down 5th ave.

Wedding:

We met with Anabel Wednesday morning, she was very kind. She went over our ideas, plans, everything very thoroughly. She explained where the other 2 weddings were taking place so that we dont have interference.

We chose the Dreams of Love Pkg. And paid extra for canopy set up, $100 for extra tulle. $500 for sound equip for ceremony and 3hr reception. $150 for extra walkway decor. $18 for bag of petals. $10 day pass for outside photog. total came to $2935. She didnt charge us for the reception set up since it was a small party of 15ppl. That was nice of her. She took our boxes of decor and all with her.

My Spa appt with Trinidad was at 1 o'clock... could the spa BE any further away!!! It was like a mile from my room. By the time I got back, my hair style had fallen. But Trini was very kind, professional, and fast. Although, I emailed them pics and showed them in a magazine, my hair did not turn out as I had hoped. But, she did a wonderful job with my niece's make up and she even did her hair a little for free. That was so nice. Thumbs Up for her.

As for the wedding, I felt as though the flowers came a little late, which made me nervous. We were scheduled for 4pm and it was 3:30ish when I got my bouquet.

It ran behind because DH parents were in my room. No one knew they had to be down at the ceremony. The coordinator didnt come up to get me until they were seated. Oops.

They approved and used our scripts for our symbolic ceremony, and were kind enough to accomodate us and have it read in both English and in Spanish. BUT, at the last second, they asked if our best man could read the spanish portion of the ceremony... uh, no! So they found someone to read it. That upset DH a little bit.

The rest of the ceremony went smoothly until they showed us the wedding certificate.. our last name was misspelled!!! And when DH asked her to go print out a new one, her response was, "I'm not walking all the way over there!"  RUDE!!!!!!!!!! We STILL dont have our wedding cert. I guess theyre gonna mail it to us. Grrrr. Whatever.

We hired an outside photographer, Blue Lens Caribe (find our review in bride referrals). A God send.

Our reception began at 6pm. We cancelled cocktail hour so that our guests wouldn't have to run around the resort. We just had the hou'r dourves served at our dinner. Anabel did a wonderful job setting up the table as I instructed her to. Thumbs Up.

The food was good, everyone enjoyed it. Wings, Cesar salad, Beef flank, tres leche. and chocolate wedding cake. Thumbs Up.

The resort photographer was no bueno. He arrived late! He did not give direction very well. He left shadows in our pictures, people in the background. He was busy taking pictures of the drunk lady in the pool behind us! We did not enjoy his work and he looked anxious to leave. We told him we wanted pics of us eating, cake cutting, first dance. After all that we just excused him. Thumbs Down!

At about 9:40pm, the power went out in our section by the dolphin pool! Lights, Sound, everything!!! To be honest, it seemed that they were in no rush to get it back up and running. We were told it was almost ten so we could wrap it up anyways... uh NO! Our BM argued with them that they owed us more time. The mngr argued that we had to shut it down anyway. BUT! The party by the adult pool was still going on PAST 10 o'clock. When DH asked why they were allowed to, the manager replied, "because they paid extra"... BULLSH*T!!! We know damn well from this website that you cannot pay to have your reception party run long. Plus, we asked Anabel and of course were shot down. So that made us furious!!! They finally moved the light and got us an extension cord for the sound system. Our best man/dj played music again but the manager kept turning it down. He didnt turn down the other party, we heard their music loud and clear. Not cool. Then, the sound equipment guy came to pack his system and leave. So the best man/dj explained that the manager promised us more tme. The Sound guy said he wasn't told anything. :-/

Finally, I was tired of all the bullsh*t so I said lets pack it up and go. Anabel left our box under the table so we can pack all our decor. When we asked the manager to have a bellboy take it up to our room, his response was, "I dont think we can get anyone for you right now". RUDE AGAIN!!!! WTF was this dude's problem?!?! Well, one of the waitor's had a crush on DH's aunt. So we tipped him really well and he said he would take it up for us. Along with some drinks to keep the party going in our room. :-)

All in all, we had an okay time. We enjoyed SSS better than this resort. And we dont plan on returning to DT ever again. Next time we will try another resort. Maybe Secrets Maroma Beach.

I would suggest to another bride to find a place closer to the airport. If possible, invest in an outside photog, and we HIGHLY recommend Blue Lens Caribe!

I hope I dont bring anyone down. Especially if you've already booked DT. This was just our expierence. I've read others that had no problem. Best of Luck to you all.

Will post pics soon.
