  1. Hi Laureen!

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!! I'm getting married there on May 9th, 2017.

I just looked quickly for you... If you decided to have your reception at the beach bar, a $300 fee applies if there's no food. And there's a $12 charge per person for the open bar, without food service.

You also do have to pay for any upgraded chairs if you chose to have any, as well as whether or not you wanted to upgrade to an actual dance floor (these are insanely expensive here, starting at $1000) I'm choosing to use the floor of the beach bar, and not have an actual "dance floor"... Any decor or linen upgrades would of course also be more.

Let me know if I can help with any other questions :) I've gotten quite a bit of information from my planner that I've been working with. Booked my wedding through Luxe Destination Weddings! They've been great.

Where are you flying out of?

I've been stalking instagram like crazy for pictures of setups at the beach bar. If anyone has any of these please pass them on!!

  2. Hi Sashloz,

How long did you have to wait until your wedding date was confirmed? I have requested the 23rd May, but didn't have to choose my location or anything yet. We are also considering our wedding either in the chapel or on the beach and reception at the beach bar. I'm worried now though, as it seems to be getting booked up and our travel agent have said it could be another 3 weeks before we hear back.

    Thanks,

    Lauren

I know I found out the very next day. Not sure why your travel agent has to wait so long.. That's definitely worrying :(

  3. Hey Ladies,

I'm also getting married at the Royalton in May 2017. The 19th to be exact we are having our ceremony at the Chapel and reception at the Sky terrace. So happy to have found this new thread. The old one seems to have gone dead.

Yay congrats!! Can't believe how many of us are may 2017 brides!! Looks like it's the best year to go ;)

I put my deposit down for May 7th (first two weeks were almost totally booked for the beach bar and my preferred ceremony time on the beach! - we chose to just pay the extra $ and do a Sunday wedding) so we will definitely be running into each other, ahhhh! ONE YEAR! I'm working on a room block this week, waiting to hear back from the TA about the rates. I think I'm just going to block 10 rooms to be safe since I have to send out STDs now and I want my immediate family to get their deposits down early.

What type of credit do you get for each 7 guests? I can't find the Royalton's group booking perks anywhere!

I know! congrats - May seems to be a popular month!

No way! This is exciting. I may just have to snoop on your wedding before mine to see how everything looks haha!! We must have a celebratory drink! What day do you arrive at the resort?

I get a credit for every 8th person. Value of flight and accommodations, minus taxes and surcharges! We fly with sunwing and I think this is a deal they have with them :) though I'm flying from Canada so it may be a tad different than the states.

  4. For sure we definitely will! I'm from NJ here in the states so I'll probably be flying out of NYC. My guests are from all over the east coast so figured it would be easy for them to find affordable nonstop flights into CUN. We're still tossed up between extending our stay in the resort we get married at or flying across Mexico to Puerto Vallarta after the wedding and having a 3-4 day "mini-moon" away from the family LOL

Btw did you block rooms out yet or are you having everyone make their own arrangements? I'm a TA myself and I'm so up in the air about this because I don't want to have to book all my family and friends myself.

That's fair! The planning agency I chose is being paid to do all that. Taking care of the planning, and booking my guests!!! I just don't want the pressure of everyone asking me a million questions I can't answer haha. I plan events for a living so this time it's not my job to do it ;)

I had a block of rooms and airplane seats blocked for a deposit, and they take care of the rest! Only catch is they can't take advantage of those last minute sales if bookings are within the block. But at least this way I do get a credit for each 7 guests that book!

  5. Ahhh okay. I remember seeing a location fee of $300 on my paperwork but now that I look again you only have to pay that for events without food.

Those colors sound gorgeous together! I'm opting for an all baby's breath wedding with pops of coral and gold. I like rustic simple decor. I'm looking at the first and second week of May right now! Just waiting to hear back from the planner about what date the beach is available for a 5pm ceremony and beach bar available for the reception (I originally wanted May 5 but the beach is only available for 3pm and I don't want my guests to wait 4 hours for dinner!). So we might be crossing paths depending on our wedding date!! :)

Ohhh well, I know that apparently May 8th is booked for every time slot apparently, and I'm booked on May 9th! Looks like there's a chance we will. We'll have to connect and have a drink if we end up being there at the same time :)

    Totally keep me updated!

Love the rustic feel! Never been a fan of baby's breath but I know a lot of people love it!!

I just love that you don't have to rent a dance floor with the beach bar. Saves so much money.

Where are you flying out from?

  6. Hi,

I'm glad I've found someone else who is getting married there the same month :)

We are flying from London Stansted on 17th May, so we wont be there the same time. We have booked through a british travel agent who is dealing with the wedding as they have a weddings team. I have been told I may have to wait up to 8 weeks to have the date confirmed. Did you get the date you wanted?

Are you having a civil ceremony? As I've been told you need to be there 3 business days before not including date of arrival.

I'm torn between the beach wedding or having it in the Chapel. I've been stalking the internet for photographers websites who have posted peoples wedding pics online. I was initially put off by the beach as friends have said that your surrounded by sunbathers but the pictures I've seen of the weddings at this hotel it looks a bit more private. Where have you found pictures??

I've had some correspondence direct with the hotel, they sent me through all of the information available. All the pricelists and everything :) Let me know if you want anything and how your planning is going also :)

    xx

I've had some luck finding some pictures with some google searches of the beach setups. I'll be talking to my planner about putting me in the most secluded location of the beach! It looks like this resort's beach is vast, and since there's no neighbouring resorts, as well as they put the location pretty close to the water, so you don't have people walking right behind your wedding ceremony (that would be the worst...)

I'm also just doing a symbolic ceremony. I don't want to deal with all of this blood work they ask for. Not my idea of a great start to a vacation lol. I've found a few pictures from another bride on this website, and instagram had a couple. Search #RoyaltonRivieraCancun or #royaltonriviera or #royaltoncancun ... You can also search under "places" in instagram and look for the resort name! I've also just done some general google searching.

I've got all the price-lists now which is awesome!! I'll let you know if there's anything I want to double check too. Vice Versa :)

I'm considering doing the same line up - beach ceremony and reception at the beach bar. How much was the location fees for the beach and beach bar? You have to pay the location fee plus the per person private dinner menu plus any decor/setup right?

I think the beach bar would look beautiful with some string lights over head and some long farmer tables depending on how many people you're expecting - or at least that's my vision haha!  :D

Hey!! You don't have to pay extra for a beach ceremony at all actually. For the beach bar, all you're paying for is the per-person private dinner fee, which includes 3 hours of open bar. Additional fee applies to extend your open bar which the latest it can be open is 11pm. (I'm opting for a 7pm reception, and extending the open bar for 1 more hour, so it goes to 11). The only extra fees for the venue would be the Sky Deck. I believe its $1500USD right now.

String lights would be gorgeous. I like round tables for seating, with a nice head table. We're expecting about 40 I think :) I'm planning on a Dark Greyish Navy colour, with dark coral pink and some yellow accents for my wedding colours!

  7. Hi,

Have you managed to book your wedding date in May 2017 yet??

I have booked our accommodation but currently awaiting confirmation from our Travel Agent of our confirmation wedding date. We have also booked in May 2017 too??

Looking at either getting married on the beach or chapel and then a reception on the beach or the beach bar.

Would be fab to know how you are getting on??

    xx

    Hey LJGray,

I have officially booked my wedding date of May 9th, 2017! We'll be leaving Montreal and Toronto on May 6th, and returning on May 13th  :)

I booked my wedding directly with Luxe Destination Weddings so they've been pretty much holding the reigns of the planning, which I love, since I plan weddings for a living. I want someone to take care of it for me!!

We're likely doing a beach wedding, followed by a reception at the Nautica Beach Bar. I can't seem to find many pictures of a dinner/dance type of setup at the beach bar but I've been stalking instagram and facebook for other brides pictures haha.

Let me know if you find anything!!

Other than that, I get to start planning the actual wedding details starting on Monday, when I have the first phone call with the actual "wedding planner" from Luxe. I've only been dealing with a travel agent so far, who helped me pick the venue.

Where are you leaving from? Do you have dates decided yet? Looking forward to the journey, feel free to reach out with any questions or your feedback too.

  9. Hey Mel!

Thank you for this. my wedding is booked for January 2017. I am planning on having the ceremony in the chapel and reception on the terrace, but our guest count is increasing so I am thinking maybe switching the ceremony to the terrace and having the reception inside one of the ballrooms. We are going to do a site visit next month which includes a tour and menu tastings, I'm sure we'll know by then.

I posted on the last thread about a week ago and no one responded so I guess that thread died out. My question was for the brides who already had their weddings there though. I was wondering about budgets and any surprise/hidden fees.

That sounds awesome Laur! Let me know what feedback you get when you go in a couple of weeks! I'd love to  hear :)

  10. I have been weighing some options myself... I looked at the azul fives but found it too expensive. The beach location isn't very private if you're really into a beach wedding. The sky deck option is great, but costs an additional $1800USD for the ceremony, and $15 per person extra on top of the dinner per person.

I also looked at the Now Jade, Now Sapphire, and the price per person was pretty high.

I liked the Akumal bay beach resort, but it was too far from the airport, and was a smaller quieter resort.

I have most likely picked the Royalton Riviera Cancun, which has many options for ceremony and dinner. Their Sky Deck option is $1500USD additional, however I do like their beach option, followed by a dinner reception at their nautica beach bar! The resort is just over a year old, so the rooms are quite modern, and I've heard great reviews about the beds too!

    Hope that helps.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll see if I have feedback from my experience :)

  11. I didn't see a thread started for brides getting married at the Royalton Riviera Cancun in 2016/2017 so I figured I would start one!

I figured this would be a great way for each other to compare notes, and answer each others questions.

I'm just finalizing booking with Luxe Weddings and am planning on booking the Royalton Riviera Cancun for May 2017!

I'm looking at either getting married on the beach, or the Sky Deck, followed by a reception at the Nautica Beach Bar, or directly on the beach!

    What are you guys doing??

  12. i was planning on getting the sky suite to start with for the rental room, do you think i should get the room under that so i can get an upgrade?   ;)

im trying to go around getting the cost to go lower, the unlucky person taking care of my questions must be going nuts lol...

were getting married on march 29th ! so almost a year to go !!!

Just saw this, and realized your wedding is tomorrow!!! HAPPY WEDDING DAY :) Hope you have an amazing and memorable day.

  13. @@melanderic2017 I just double checked the price and it was $370 (on top of the basic Always and Forever package) in 2014. The price may have gone up since then though.

The pier is a really beautiful spot!! We did all of our bridal party photos there before the ceremony. If you're planning on wearing a veil, I would strongly suggest getting veil weights or possible opting for a hair piece instead. It is VERY windy out on the pier. I would also wear your hair up so that you can see during your ceremony!  ;) I kept asking one of our groomsmen if he needed a hair elastic - lol His hair is in his face in half of those photos.

These are all on the pier:

    attachicon.gifPIC_0003.jpg

    attachicon.gifPIC_0014.jpg

Beautiful pictures! Thank you SO much for the details about the wind, I'm thinking a headpiece is more alone the lines of what I would go for! Maybe at least a half-updo would help. :)

I just got an update from my planner, she mentioned the maximum of 32 is due to weight restrictions :(

Looks like I may have to look at an alternative ceremony location as I belive my guest count will be over 32.

Thank you so much for the price. My planner left out this detail in her last e-mail. I imagine it's probably about $500 or less then!

I've been looked through the threads... Does the resort have multiple beach wedding locations that you know of? Are any more private than others? I may opt for the sky deck otherwise, since I've heard that the garden gazebo is close to the loud pool??

  14. Thanks ladies... I saw all of the information about the number of people, but can't find the price :(.

I find it hard to believe that if it fits 32 for dinner, that it would only hold 32 for a ceremony. I wonder if anyone has squeezed in a few more... I'm looking at about 40 guests, and really dream of my ceremony on that pier. Basically it's the selling point for me!

I'll talk to my planner and see! They just take a bit to respond, especially with Easter Weekend! :)

  15. I second what @@snswedding2016 said. We booked in May of 2014 so that was a while back. The only company that does chartered flights to AF from Canada is Air Transat so we went with them as well. Sometimes your TA is able to negotiate better promos or deals but it really depends on the time of booking. Who are you using for TA? Does she have a lot of experience with Karisma?

Originally we wanted to go with Gran Caribe in Cancun, but our TA hadn't really worked with them and so when we got their quote we didn't like their terms. Among other things, they also only offered every 21st free. That's when our TA suggested AF and she had already worked with them many times. Anyway, when she said they would give us that deal, that was just another things among the many reasons why we chose it. I just got an email from Karisma yesterday saying that every 6th person is free with some conditions. I imagine it's only for US brides, but maybe they're willing to cut you a better deal than the 21st person for free.

Thanks everyone!! This definitely helps... I'm working with Luxe Destination Weddings. They've been amazing so far, with timely responses, and helping me secure the best rate. They've been quick to answer any questions, in great detail! Looks like they know their resorts. Best part will be not having to deal directly with Lomas... Hopefully they have a better relationship with them, as planners! (Fingers crossed)

I'm currently looking at departures from Montreal and Toronto, in May 2017. They've given me rates of roughly $1750 per person, with the 21st free... I can definitely talk to the agent and see whether we can negotiate that at all. But I'm not sure!

I'll let you ladies know if anything comes of it...

Question --- Do any of you know the cost to rent the PIER for the ceremony?? That's one detail I can't seem to find.

    THanks :)

  16. Azul Fives didn't offer us many perks because we are Canadian. We got one of their packages for the reception tables and because we also upgraded our ceremony to the sky deck, our TA was able to negotiate the ceremony fee ($950) and they gave us that for free. Also, because we booked our travel with a GI certified TA, my hair and makeup were free as well as the trials. I also had a mani and pedi for free but I honestly didn't have time nor did i want to be stuck at the spa when the weather was so beautiful!

I think our biggest perk, was getting every 11th person free. This was such a good deal! We got two people for free and we were able to help some of our friends and family out with that.

At the end of the day, with perks or not, I have no regrets. I couldn't imagine my wedding anywhere else :)

Hey! I was just wondering who you flew with to get the 11th person free? I'm working with a travel agent who has quoted me the Azul with air transat, who is guaranteeing every 21st adult free.

Let me know :) I'm just curious!
