  1. Great review! And no worries about being late on your review, I still haven't done mine yet and I've been married almost 2 months now!!!

Your pictures look amazing and it seems like everyone had so much fun. Glad everything went well and that you got time for just the two of you after everyone left. Being "on" and spending all day every day with other people was definitely more draining than I realized. Hope married life is treating you well

  2. You ladies mentioned the MC. Does the resort provide an MC for the wedding? If so, were you happy with the way it turned out and how much did it cost you?

I was thinking of having the best man as the MC - he's got a great sense of humor and he loves coordinating and being in the center of attention :P

    Wondering what your thoughts are.

We used the resort MC (his name was Viko) because we didn't have anyone that was "MC material" coming to the wedding and I'm so glad we did. He was worth his weight in gold. I think the cost for him was about $$80-$100 Canadian for the night, but I can check my paperwork tonight when I get home and confirm.

The price wasn't too much, and he made the reception a success. There was not a single moment during my 4 hour reception where people weren't dancing and it was because of him. He was out there leading the charge, and yet not forcing people to dance (I hate when people do that).

My husband and I thought he was so great that we added him on facebook and went to see his band play in Playa del Carmen during our honeymoon. Can't recommended him enough!

  3. How much did you guys tip the staff for the wedding? DJ, Coordinator, Photographer etc.

We brought our own photographer (didn't tip her) so only tipped Aranza, the DJ, the MC and the wait staff. I'm trying to remember, but I think we gave Aranza about $150 US to split amongst the staff that worked that night. In hindsight I wish we had tipped more - they were all honestly amazing and made the wedding 1000% perfect. Our guests were tipping the bartenders too, so that made me feel a bit better, lol.

  4. Hi Ladies - wondering if any dates are floating around for another meetup? I missed the last one and miss you all - it's been a few months since I last saw you!

I know we wanted to have another meetup before Ashley leaves for her wedding, which only gives us a few weeks. I'm free May 20th and June 3rd (possibly May 27th if that's the consensus, but I'm likely moving that day and Jesse might disagree if I leave to go drinking, lol).

  5. @@JoannaBanana I bought a flower stem with 3 flowers on it from the dollar store, cut the flowers off and used that to decorate my cake. But you could likely re-use some of the ceremony flowers to decorate it as well.

For the flower petals, I agree with Kim - my niece only used about 1/4 of the flowers. Your two flower girls can easily split one bag.

For table numbers, I have some that I didn't end up using for my reception that you could use (we just let people sit wherever they wanted). My husband is not happy that the table numbers are still in the house and I'd love to give them to someone from the forum! I'll send you a PM with a picture of them and dimensions tonight after work.

For reception centerpieces, I just re-used the flowers from the gazebo that come with the wedding package. I had two bridesmaids, so their bouquets were used for the cake table. We had a sweetheart table - the flowers for that were the ones that sit on the table during the ceremony. I had Aranza take apart the rest of the flowers from the gazebo and she put them in vases they already had on hand as centerpieces.

Here's a picture of the cake with the $1 flowers on it. In hindsight, I would have used ceremony flowers from the gazebo so the colour matched better, but it looked good enough as is.

Here is my ceremony setup so you can see the flowers in their original state:

Here's the sweetheart table with the gazebo centerpiece on it:

And finally, here's a shot that shows one of the guest table centerpieces using the vases from GS (free) and the flowers from the gazebo:

Apologies for the quality of the photos - these were all guest captures and I'm going to use the excuse that they had been drinking already by this point, lol. Hope this helps!

  6. Ladies just curious did most of you use Pesos or USD for tipping?

    Love those shoes @@JoannaBanana

Any of the brides that got married in the last couple weeks use the spa for hair/makeup? What were your thoughts and what time did you start getting ready on the wedding day?

How were the mosquitos recently at the resort? Do I need to bring tons of bug repellant?

We've been using pesos exclusively on the trip as the exchange rate is much better. A few of our guests used USD only, which is fine too but you get better bang for your buck with pesos. When a local tells you something costs $X in US or $Y in pesos the exchange rate they are using is terrible if you pay in USD.

We did hair and makeup at the spa for myself and two bridesmaids and it turned out perfectly. We started at noon and finished at about 2:30pm (wedding was at 5pm). There are only two ladies working there, so I would budget a conservative 2 hours for every 2 people getting hair and makeup done.

I'm currently getting eaten alive by mosquitoes in Playa del Carmen, but didn't get bit much on resort. I know a few people who got a few bites so I would bring some bug spray, but I don't think you need a ton.

  7. @@acw271011 Sorry Ann - I saw this post and forgot to pop back and reply. I'm sorry I had to bail last minute. Unforunately in my line of work it's a lot of flying by the seat of your pants. I actually didn't end up getting home until 9:30 Friday night. I would love to see you all before we go :)

@@krystalball When are you back? We can't wait to hear about your trip and read about your wedding :)

We fly back on Monday. Just sitting on the beach at Mamita's Beach Club in Playa taking in as much Mexico as we can. All our guests have gone back home now and we're settling in to our Airbnb in Playa del Carmen

  8. @@calgarybride2015 Thanks Kim! We leave for Mexico on April 6th and our wedding is on April 9th. Time has been flying by, especially once we hit the one month mark, and I can't believe we're hopping on the plane in a matter of days. Will definitely post pictures and a review when I get back.

Looking forward to the next meetup after April - miss you girls!

  9. Less than one month to go now! Your to-do list looks totally doable, great job staying on top of things

Love the hair piece BTW, I procrastinated on getting something for my hair, so if I don't stumble onto something this weekend I'll be just a regular updo. I really think your hairpiece will complement your dress beautifully

Enjoy your final countdown to the wedding, it will pass by quickly but with everything you have completed so far you're in great shape!

  10. Sorry I've been so MIA lately!

Congrats on being a legal Mrs and pulling off the surprise ceremony. I'm sure your family was over the moon to have been there.

Too bad that your dress fitting didn't go as planned, but hopefully the next one will have the translator and you can get rid of the pointy boobs, lol. My dress was the same way so I feel you on not wanting to look like you're in a Madonna video for your wedding day  :P

Hope you find a perfect belt at a great price somewhere - maybe etsy? Always hard to order things like that without seeing it in person, but I've heard of other brides going that route with success. One shop that was recommended on facebook was www.etsy.com/shop/lolaandmadison (but I'm sure there are others).

Oh, and for the record - I don't think you need any wigs, lol

  11. @@vancouverpetunia We leave on April 6th - a week from tomorrow  Having a bit of a meltdown trying to get all the last minute things done on top of work and searching for a new apartment (landlord is kicking us out so his daughter can live there, so we have 60 days to find a new place). We're both coming down with a cold right now, so I guess when it rains it pours right? At least we caught it now and not right before we're leaving.

I'm trying to take the attitude of making sure the things that must get done are looked after and the smaller details are probably just not going to get done. My final dress alterations are the biggest concern right now, so it's a huge relief that your dress is just getting finished right now too.

Thanks for always itemizing your to-do list here - I've been using it as a sanity check and to make sure that I'm not missing anything!

Everything you've done so far for the wedding looks so lovely. Can't wait to see it all come together for you  :D Hope your last few days before you leave are stress free!
