  1. We stayed for a week at the resort. By the 5th day, we started to get homesick. Well at least my daughter did. Most of our guests left by the 4th day but it was really nice though. We took an additional 3 more days off from work and it was nice to have a vacation at home from our vacation.

  2. Hi Katie,

    Thanks for your reply.

We are planning a legal ceremony over there but I have been reading more about people getting married legally at home and then having a symbolic ceremony once in Mexico and didn't know you could even do that until recently.

Does it work out cheaper if you do it that way round or is it just the same?

I have spoken again to the hotel and they have confirmed that it is 3 full days!

    When do you get married?

    Regards

    Louise

Hi and congrats on your engagement! We did a symbolic ceremony in Mexico than doing a legal. It saved us an additional $1500 and we arrived 2 days before the ceremony. We legally got married 3 days before we left for Mexico. It felt so much more surreal and romantic when we had our wedding in Mexico.

  3. I am not changing my last name at all... I'm Laotian and it is very important to me to have that as my cultural identity

^^ This. This is is so important to me because I am Laotian. My middle and last name is the most important thing to me. It was my identity for the past 29 years.

I'm so glad my husband (haha, now I can say it) is supportive either way. I am still planning on changing my last name but I am going to try to find a way to make my middle name and maiden last name fit (I'm just going to make it into two middle names). Sadly, there's a 26-character limit with the social security office and I have already hit the 27 letters. I want to try to find a way to make that happen.

  4. wow you looked gorgeous! Congratulations :D

Edit: I just saw the pictures from the gropro. I loved your guestbook, so cute :)

When we were planning our wedding at Gran Caribe I loved the gazebo, it looks great when everything is set up!

Your pictures give me a good idea for how things will be set up on the tables and how many people could I realistically fit in each table. Did you have 9 or 10 per table?

    Thank you!

The gazebo was a perfect location because we weren't too far from the beach or the restrooms.

We did 10 per table (round) and everyone was able to sit down and talk with each other. We had the option of doing one huge table but I wanted the table to split so we could have room for dancing.

  5. @@pddcmc I can't wait to see the rest of the pictures! You look gorgeous! Get some rest and enjoy your time off! :)

So just going to be off-topic for a moment...When we left on Wed (April 15th), I ran into another bride at the airport. I was hoping it would be you but I wasn't sure! The possibilities, ya know? LOL. Well anyways, she was also a DW bride too. She was heading to Cancun and her wedding date was the same as ours. Her ceremony even started at 4pm (like mine!) It was just kind of neat, lol.

  6. We did not hire a videographer but instead we brought our GoPro camera. We had a few friends hold our GoPro and I was really happy with it. They were able to get our entire ceremony so I was able to watch it from when it all started till the very end. It was so nice! :) If you have a GoPro camera, I recommend one for your wedding. The only thing I really regret (well I completely forgot) was getting some group photos from the photographer. I forgot to get both sides of the families together for a photo.

Our private reception was awesome too. I am so glad we went with it. We extended an extra hour for the reception and it ended around 9:30pm. It worked out really well and it gave our guests (who didn't stay on the resort) to hang out before their day pass expired.

  7. We are back home! We got home yesterday afternoon and we are so happy to be back home. I'm a bit sluggish at the moment with unpacking, cleaning the house and everything.

First of all, Cancun was beautiful and we had an awesome time at Gran Caribe Real. Their atmosphere and environment worked out perfectly for our families. The wedding was perfect and I was so happy with the way it turned out. I am so happy we decided to do a destination wedding. It was small, intimate and fun. I want to replay our wedding all over again!  :P

I will try to continually share some photos when I get a free moment. I wanted to share a few pictures from our wedding.  :)

  8. For those who have already had their destination wedding in Riviera Maya/Cancun, was your officiant secular or religious?

I want to make sure that God is included (read: mentioned) in my ceremony, but since the resoirt (Iberostar paraiso maya) chooses the officiant, I'm worried it will be a judge and the ceremony will be completely non-religious.

What was your experience with this?

If you tell your wedding coordinator on what you request, they will do it. We just had our DW on Friday and we got the officiant secular. We requested it to be non-religious and the resort was fine with that.

  9. Hi girls! We have confirmed July 9th 2016 at Gran Caribe Real Cancún.

I'm so nervous and I keep telling myself we still have over a year to plan! Yet, I want to start everything!!!

When are you planning to send your stds? Since half of the family is traveling, I was thinking about sending them with one year anticipation.

    Happy planning!

How exciting! Congrats! We just had our wedding at Gran Caribe Real. Highly recommended! :)

  10. I am in the stages of getting a date at the gran Caribe real hotel in December 2015? They only have a 10am chapel available and am not to happy that my guest would like a early wedding. But, I want a catholic wedding and am now considering a symbolic wedding. What do you suggest?

Hi, hope you can help me out, I'm a newbie. Getting married in December 2015 also at the grand Caribe Real in Cancun. Are you using a TA for your guest ?

I am getting married at the Gran Caribe Real. We are currently going through a TA. Are you doing a Saturday wedding?.
