Anyone else have a Dreams Cancun wedding coming up?? It's only been 2 weeks since we've been home and I want to go back and do it again!!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Hi Ashley! So happy to be able to calm your nerves!!! Where do I begin?! For decorations, we brought squares of burlap and lace for center pieces and then I was going to just wing the actual vase element. I had little Mexican flags with our names made and my plan was to just put those in glass soda bottles (from the mini bar ha) if there wasn't anything left for me to use. But it ended up that a bride had left some mason jars! So Claudia let me use those. I brought jute string and wrapped it around each jar, put sand in there and then Claudia put little fake the lights in there that we're perfect! I didn't ask for it but they also put shells and starfish on the tables as great decorations! For the ceremony we traded a minister (my uncle did it) for a sound system. I was nervous as to how that would work but it was perfect. I made 3 CDs, one for "sitting music," one for walking down the aisle and one for walking back down the aisle. They were clearly marked and all worked. They had someone operating the system so that was helpful and great. Advise I have is to just enjoy! And role with things as they happen. We had an outside do we loved and recommend. Where are you having your reception? Bring small bills for tipping! It's not required but goes a long way for sure! And it's deserved but converting to pesos is a pain. We brought enough small bills to just tip in USD the whole time. Any other questions please ask! Happy to help! Oh, we needed up paying the $4 per room for concierge to deliver welcome/OOT bags to guests. So worth it!!! We got married a week ago today and it was amazing!!! Everything was perfect and the staff was wonderful!! I want to do it again every year! A rumor we heard while there was that the Hyatt deal fell through and that it wil stay a Dreams resort. Many of the workers didn't know anything about it though. A guest of ours heard that from someone on the entertainment staff. The poor waiters only sign month long contracts so they are clueless about any change but incredible when I comes to serving you. Man I wish we were still there... Felt like home away from home. It was perfection!

Yikes - 52 days until we get married!!! I've been cranking through a lot of stuff lately… just finished the luggage tags we're sending to all of our 55 guests with a packing list, I've drafted the ceremony (we're doing a symbolic ceremony with my god father as the officiant), attendant gifts all bought, table assignments done and now I'm taking a stab at the Welcome letter for out of town bags. I have to say, this stuff is exhausting! I get why people pay so much to have other do this! Does anyone have any tips or examples of welcome/schedule letters to share? I'm feeling like my creative writing is zapped after the ceremony writing! Thanks!!

Good point! I actually had lunch with some hotel industry people today and thy couldn't believe they were canceling weddings over a change in management except for a remodel. This happens and the show must go on if they want to keep customers coming after! Thanks for pointing that out!

I'm kinda nervous about our 1/20/14 wedding but with 3 months of business after us they can't decline that soon. I hope! Would love to know if you get any extra deals! I'm hoping to get to use some extra stuff for the reception. Still waiting for Claudia to respond to my email though!

Oh my goodness! This is terrible for you guys! I'm so sorry you're dealing with this! If you have signed a contract with them for the wedding they should honor it at another Dreams or even Now resort in the area! I checked out Now Jade and it's great if you need comparable options. Beach isn't as blue and big but resort is lovely.

Cancun Studios did our engagement photos when we came to playa del Carmen in Jan. they are great! Only reason they aren't photographing our wedding is because a friend is a photographer attending the wedding.

We're doing the tan suit and no cocktail hour. No need for cocktail hour when it's open bar anyway! I am curious about more info on the trip to Isle Morasles... Could you tell me what company you went with?

Three months from today we will be in Cancun and I will be a Mrs! Can't believe how fast it's coming up.

Mrsoats, Dreams was the only resort in Cancun we looked at. The others were Riviera Maya or Playa del Carmen. We really wanted to get married in Playa but the resorts we checked out just didn't fit the bill for one reason or another and we were running out of time to decide and Dreams was our "safety" if you will. We knew we couldn't go wrong from all the recommendations we got and we were right. We looked at Occidental Xcaret, Playacar Reef, Jade Now. We also visited the Riu next to The Reef but the staff was not welcoming among a few other turnoff that sent us walking. The big down falls for the Occidental and Reef were the food... It was pretty blah. Our guests could have dealt with it for 3 days but anyone staying longer not so much. The Reef didn't have a private area to get married besides on the beach and I didn't want that. The Occidental didn't have a "real" beach and both were just far enough away from the airport to be a negative for our guests. They are already spending $$$$ getting there we felt like if we could spare them a $100 fare to get to the hotel that was a plus. Oh and their vacation club people are obnoxious! MAJOR NEGATIVE! Jade Now was beautiful and I would go back. The place I wanted to get married there though was already booked on the day we needed. And the beach there just isn't as beautiful as Playacar or Cancun. So we saw all these other places and then went to our "safety." We were blown away by the difference. The food was GOOD! The room actually had little shampoo and stuff you usually get (little thing I know), you could avoid the vacation club folks no problem, it was big enough without feeling too big but didn't feel crowded, has 2 real beaches and a beautiful area to get married. I was hooked! The difference in price between Dreams and the other places was about $20-30/day. That was why we didn't just go there to start but after eating the food - not having to eat buffet all the time too!- we decided hands down it was worth the extra!! You have to shop around for the best deal though but you can get it well under $200/pppn! Hope all that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

I can't believe we are only 6 months out. It seems so far away but I know it's not. One thing I've noticed since I'm not doing a lot of extras is that I tend to forget about what I actually need to do since so much is just all done by them. I plan events for work so this hands off thing is a welcomed break but almost too much as I'm not really on top of what I need to do! Ha! So I'm finalizing invites very soon. I'm thinking it's what people need to actually book since we are expecting about 40-50 ppl and only 12 have booked hotels. And my dress seems to just be a waiting game... I should probably see when they expect that to come in!! AND I should probably email my girls about ordering their dresses! Ok sorry for that brain dump! Ha! If your communication hasn't been clear and leading down the road of scheduling I don't think there is anything wrong with saying you've decided to go a different direction. Or if your comfortable with just not reaching out and going with M, do that. You could also tell the other one you have a friend who offered to do it for free.... Unless they are both free... Ha

I've stayed there in a dolphin room. It was great. But we're going with the jr jacuzzi club for our wedding stay sp it's big enough for all the girls to get ready in. I also wanted a room in the tower to overlook the ceremony area. hope that helps!

Hi! My fiancé and I are getting married at Dreams Cancun on January 20, 2014! I visited Dreams in April and loved it most out of the 4 or so places we visited and countless hours of research. We're swapping the cocktails for the 10 extra people for the reception and I'm bringing a photographer friend so they are giving me an upgraded cake I think instead of that. It's really so beautiful I'm not really going to worry about many decorations and going to focus on the guest bag and other stuff to thanks our guests for traveling all that way to share in our day. Can't wait!!!

Jen, what time was your wedding and reception in relation to sunset? Our reception will be in the other each but I'm worried we will need to get extra lights after sunset.

Oh goodness, using this on my phone got me all messed up on the post dates. Looks like the other post I replied to was for a 2013 wedding! Anyway, we are getting married January 20, 2014 at Dreams Cancun. I've made a site visit and love it and our guests are booking now through Classic Vacations. They had the best rates- much better than what we got directly through the hotel! I'd love to find another 2014 bride!
