  1. Hey Newbride101, sorry for the late response, it's been way too busy.... I got the allowance by calling the DR Embassy here in Montreal, they said 2 bottles per person is the wine allowance. Normally 1L is the limit for spirits allowed into most countries and you can't bring both, it's either 1L spirits or 1.5L wine or 24 cans of beer. They generally carry a decent selection, my worry is that we may have to mix it up depending on the quantities they have in store. You can most probably count on them having Australian Wolf Blass Yellow Label, French Brouilly Georges Duboeuf, Italian Chianti Nippozzano and the prices should start at about 12$ and up. Yellow Label is probably around 15$. I won't be checking a box of wine, too risky that some bottles get broken and I don't want issues at customs in the DR saying that each person has 2 bottles that we packed into one box is just going to cause issues. If you get your guests to pack the bottles in thier checked luggage that would be better but then again you're limiting thier suitcase weight and risking broken bottles again. In case you haven't tried calling them here is the duty free shop number for Edmonton South Departures Lounge (After Security) Phone: 780 890 7352 I'm really sorry to hear you have the flu, it's running around here too, I've been spared so far, fingers crossed!
  2. Hi Newbride101! LOL that's amazing!!!! What a coincidence!!! Then you must also be starting to feel the last minute planning jitters... When do you get there? We're purchasing wine on departure at the duty free, less trouble and less weight in our checked luggage. I don't know what your departure airport is but depending on the duty free provider there they may have a website and an email address? Or, you can always contact the airport administration offices and see if they have another number you can try. (FYI entry limits for wine in the DR is 2L per person.) I'd definitely go with the IPod if you aren't planning on dancing until disco time. Let me know how you turn out with getting a duty free contact.
  3. Hello Ladies, I've been following this thread for nearly a year now, it's been extremely helpful. THANK YOU to all the brides who've posted pre and post wedding info. We're having a Catholic ceremony on April 6th at 5pm, which also happens to be my birthday ) 15 days to go, departing on April 3rd, 31 to 35 guests, yes-yes, we're still awaiting on 4 very last minute confirmations.... Strawberry package (it included what we wanted and costs less than the Tangerine package even with the 6 to 10 extra guests) Canapes and cocktails for our guests while we do our photos (12$ per person) Set menu dinner with the addition of a shrimp skewer in each plate at the cost of 10$ per plate. Lobster can also be done, cost 15$ per plate but I was affraid they may not cook it properly. TropicalPictures Silver Package Hotel supplied DJ 708$ (3hours) Will bring my own center pieces, I found what they offer to be too pricey, would rather put the money on upgrading the food and will bring our own wine,10$ per bottle corking fee, they do get you on the extras so be prepared, I'm estimating total cost to be between 7000$ to 8000$ not including oot bags and everything else I'm bringing. I did visit this past December, met with our WC Lianny, she was extremely kind and knowledgable, took the time to answer our questions and explain things in detail. She also took us on a tour of the resort that took a couple hours. Don't panic, if you don't get immediate responses from your WC, they really are busy, this hotel is a wedding factory with 3-4 weddings per day. If you're looking for an intimate hotel this isn't the place, it's absolutely huge but offers many services and is suitable for all age groups. It's beautiful, seems that you get the best of both worlds by being in a resort but offers all the wedding services you'd get at home. I'm in the travel industryand been to several resorts (Cancun, Mayan Riviera, Panama, DR, Cuba, Nassau, Jamaica), at first impression the BBPD has by far surpassed all my expectations, for now... I hope I can still say this after my wedding I promise to let you all know when we get back (Apr 14th). for your perusal I've attached some centerpiece samples with prices. Nighty-night ladies!
